I thought all those movies were about people with daddy issues.

I thought all 5 Bayformers movies were about men with erectile dysfunction.

No, I'm pretty sure Guardians 2 was about people who had issues with their fathers. Same thing with Apes and all three Lego Movies. Batman alone adds like 500000 father issue points.

So only movies that are *not* Transformers are worth delving into with our Freudian caps on. Enjoy the ride, right? Okey dokey, cap'n.

I work with material I'm given.

You wanna talk about how 9/11 paranoia has shaped the last 16 years of filmmaking (including Transformers to an absurd degree) I'm open to that, too.

I'm not denying nostalgia is a major motivation. On the contrary, I'm saying that it is, but the big problem with pleasing people via nostalgia is that few things that are truly novel or daring get made when the focus is nostalgia. Nostalgia is the comfort zone most fans don't want to stray from, and that is the problem with fandoms and many modern franchises. I'd much rather have something that's creatively risky and pisses off fans wearing nostalgia glasses but that it interesting in its own merits.

Most of the vocal fans don't want their favorite film franchises to enter new territory and consequently expand in meaningful ways. They want a repetitive status quo. I am not one of those fans, and I never will be. I don't want the films to be stuck in 1984 or 2007 like many fans. I want them to move beyond. Let there be Quintessons. Let there be a Cybertronian Empire, or Terrorcons, or Straxus, or Punch-Counterpunch or Maximals and Predacons. Let there be brand new things.

One of the biggest problems with The Last Knight is that it didn't fully embrace the newer direction. It tried too hard to bring old characters back, and bringing those old characters back resulted in a less focused story in my opinion. By the same token, I also think most of the films, including The Last Knight, get much more hate than is warranted.

I love Guardians of the Galaxy as a fun summer action film, but never once was I in tears. Not even close.

And no, I am not making excuses. I'm simply having an informed opinion based on thousands of observations on how people act.

And I even if I did make excuses they wouldn't be called excuses. They would be called Shrek-cuses! Because what this fandom needs is a Shrekformers Cinematic Onionverse. Beyond good. Beyond drek. Beyond your wildest ogre-the-top fan fiction.

And that is another problem with this fandom. The Bumblebee fan is a smaller scale Transformers film in a new setting by a new director, and many fans still won't give it a shot.

It's even set in the 80s, and Bee transforms into a freaking VW! It is clear they are trying to appease fans of the cartoon!

Personally, I am happy the live action films have brought enjoyment to tens of millions or more people worldwide. I enjoyed them, and I hope the Bee movie is actually good and ends up being a success with me personally and with other people.

I can't like this post enough! Also, one fan's "Ruined FOREVER" is another fan's G1, and that's why I don't like to spend my time tearing down what other people like.

The chances of the BB movie will be a rehashed of 2007 are big.
Hailey Steinfeld Charlie Watson character=Sam Witwicky
    John Cena Burns:Seymour Simmons
Sector Seven are back again. With only these three mentioned things, I'm almost certain that movie will be similar or not entirely identical to the 2007 film.
Paramount will not expand or evolve this franchise until it burns to the ground like GI Joe.

Yes, I'm sure this film will have a pointless hacker subplot, a group of soldiers on the run in the Middle East, and a massive final battle in an urban city that's key to the whole story.

That's the only logical conclusion to draw when we've been told that the film will take place in one town and have fewer robots.

Don't get me wrong, I DON'T want this movie to be a rehash of the 2007 film or any of the other films, but I won't know that until I actually see the film. I give every new movie and every new cartoon and every new comic series a chance. I don't believe in drawing conclusions until I actually watch or read something, and every other fan should do the same.

Exactly! There is zero indication this film will have a heavy military presence; the evidence points to the opposite. There will be no Optimus or Megatron (at least not a major presence with the two rivals, although a reference or audio transmission or flashback is possible, even likely). We don't know who the Decepticons are.

If anything, the fact Bee was indicated to be damaged when Steinfeld finds Bee suggests this dynamic will be very different from the Bee-Sam Witwicky relationship.

Ultimately I agree with you that there is zero reason to think it's going to be a re-hash of 07, but it's likely Optimus will be in the movie. I am sure it's going to be a glorified cameo at best, I can't see him having major screen time.

Yeah, I meant a major presence and not simply a cameo, flashback, or transmission with Cullen's voice, which I find likely actually.

The lack of novel, daring, innovative, really shaking things up, or something people didn't see coming is a problem across the Hollywood movie industry right now. If a film has a tiny budget a production team might get to take chances but for the films with those crazy budgets the studios want to play it too safe. Really doesn't matter if it's Paramount, Marvel/Disney, Warner Brothers, Sony, Fox, or the other studios you know things like the bad guys are going to lose because that's just what Hollywood does.
