He was a main character that had a purpose and was also funny. Not a comic relief character :)

Despite how much shit I give the movies and how minor of a presence Ratchet was, his death is legitimately one of few death scenes (that isn't over the top with being graphic/having gore, etc.) in any movie that I have trouble watching.

Here's another one that's related to Transformium I feel. I have watched every movie multiple times, and I honestly don't think AoE has CGI that's worse than its predecessors. It's a myth. If anything it's actually better. The robots and ship are for the most part look just as good and often better than the robots that appeared in previous films.

I think some fans were not happy about Transformium (which I love), but the actual quality of the Transformium effects was well done.

It is true that the designs of the eyes of the Stupid Drones don't translate perfectly to live action, and the KSI Decepticons have much shinier exteriors compared to the Decepticons in the first, but in both cases that was the point. The Stupid Drones were meant to have cartoon-like eyes, and the KSI Decepticons were brand new and did have shiny exteriors, unlike the shrapnel-metal Cons of earlier films.

Furthermore, the earlier films had much blurrier action compared to the crisper action shots in the fourth film for the most part. That kind of makes them the bigger cheaters CGI-wise. By the way, I think the CGI in all of the films is perfectly fine for the most part, so I don't think they have ever declined from one film to the next. The sound effects and editing, CGI and practical visual effects, tones, and Jablonsky's scores are fantastic in every single one of the films.

It's really not. No one making that claim has ever actually tried to demonstrate it.

Agreed fully, and I have another unpopular opinion. The movies we have gotten are, for the most part, better than 95% of fan ideas for Transformers movie stories that I have seen. The remaining 5% of ideas would perhaps be comparable to what we got if executed properly and if I'm being extremely generous.

One, fan ideas are meant to please fans and usually nostalgia, but most of the general public is not interested in a Transformers film that would please the vast majority of fans on this site...if that would even be possible. The movies should focus on pleasing regular people and not TFW2005 members and professional or Youtube critics.

I can understand fans of Shockwave being upset that he wasn't the main villain of Transformers 3, but it wasn't trying to be that. It was trying to be the story of Sentinel Prime and how the war affected him and the other main robots. Frankly, I think I enjoyed it more that it wasn't just another depiction of a logical Shockwave with some scheme to stop the Autobots and perhaps undermine Megatron if they were going a more Marvel Comics route. I'm not saying there couldn't be a good movie with Shockwave as the main villain, but I am saying that the third film should be judged based on what it was trying to be rather than what it wasn't.

For Transformers 4, I have never seen a fan idea that was better than the finished film, whether it was fans of the first three films wanting more Witwickies, NEST, Sideswipe, etc. verses a new band of Decepticons, or whether it was that awful fake script with Unicron and Vector Prime and Circuit Breaker, or if it was that convoluted Skyquake idea that resurrected Sentinel. Personally, I think I only ever saw one or two fan ideas that were decent whatsoever, and those would not have been better than what we got; at best, they would be equal if they were executed well.

What Galvatross said. Most of the fan ideas sound like they were pulled out of Hound's tailpipe.

Does anyone else just really like Nitro Zeus in the last knight? While the movie was overall really boring, DeMaggio’s performance as Nitro was really enjoyable. With such a kickass design and at least some personality, I hope he appears again

While I don't think he will appear again, I did like him in the scenes he appeared. I don't think he's so great that he should have beaten Lockdown in a tournament face-off on Facebook like he did, but he was an enjoyable, one-shot robot who was fun in the handful of scenes he appeared in.

And that's another unpopular opinion: this fandom and critics in both newspapers and Youtube videos take these movies and their existence far too seriously. There is not a thing in Transformers, including in the Bay films, that is worth getting mad about. People can state their constructive criticisms and move on. I myself can have constructive criticisms, but I will never understand fans that are seriously mad that the films are still ongoing, or that x movie should have gone in y direction. if you like it great! Enjoy it! If not, there are bigger things in life and the universe. It's not worth getting seriously angry over some Transformers movie you don't like, and that doesn't mean other people shouldn't enjoy them.

Furthermore, fandom or critical "consensus" should never be the final word or the basis of one's opinion.

Every forum I've posted in, all of you transfans are the same. You all think you're center of the universe. You have no idea. (Disclaimer: Not aimed at anyone in this thread, but rather describing how some fans do act, because many of them do think they're the center of the universe)

Well, the movie didn't get a single nomination for visual effects all that much at the Academy Awards.

Also to play devil's advocate, the rendering of the Transformium metal looks really dated because of the film's glossy outlook. It's 2017 and it isn't all that awesome to look at.

Anyway, to add more into this thread. I don't think the Transformers movies are the worst movies ever made. Even as bad movies, they can still do a lot right especially in the technical department.

So what? To my knowledge no Marvel movie has been nominated for best picture. Does that make them bad movies?

And not getting an Academy Award nomination indicates absolutely nothing. That award has become nothing but "movies we like that have CGI effects." It definitely should have been one of the nominations. I have not watched the Oscars or any awards show for well over a decade, and I'm damn proud of it.

I have no clue why people say it looks dated. I think people just wanted traditional transformations, which is understandable I suppose. I think one of TLK's biggest mistakes was not acknowledging Galvatron and Transformium.

And is that last opinion really unpopular? I think the number of people saying they're the worst movies ever made is extremely small, even among their harshest critics.

Actually if you look back at the previous 3 TF movies before AOE, each movie including ROTF has at least a nomination in Sound Mixing, Sound Editing and Visual Effects. AOE is the first not to have any.

Meaning that the TF movies prowess in those areas isn't as grand as it used to be. I mean, they can still manage a couple of good visual effects or sounds when it comes about but man after DOTM, I don't think they can reach the heights of these nominations as before. This year, we have movies like Ghost in the Shell, War For the Planet of the Apes and Blade Runner 2049 that show other movies are kind of catching up with visual effects.

I'd be surprised if TLK could snag a nomination this year.

I don't think the Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, and Visual Effects declined whatsoever from the first three to the fourth movie. Nor do I think The Last Knight was a decline either in this regard. They were simply tired of Transformers movies, and Age of Extinction committed the "crime" of existing.

Which leads me to my next unpopular opinion. Whatever one may think about Age of Extinction and The Last Knight and the directions they took, there's no doubt a lot of the hatred they get from fans and critics alike is more due to the continuation of the movies after Dark of the Moon killed off the Decepticons for the most part rather than their actual quality compared to the first three.

I saw The Last Knight the last weekend, and while I don't think it's quite as good as its two predecessors, it still has its merits.

That might explain it but still.... It might be the case because so many other movies have also pushed the boundary in visual effects that people are recognizing them more. I can't remember which movie (Curious Case of Benjamin Button?) started it but some movies have mastered the art of de-aging people or if you look at motion capture in movies like the Apes movies in where it felt more like an actual chimpanzee was there.

So you only judge a film's quality based on the opinions of some elitist Hollywood snobs?

What? No... I am a man with a mind on what movies I like. I can tell you I'm not a fan of the movie Inception, one of Christopher Nolan's 'master pieces'. I'd be happy to showcase a list of movies in my top 10 category if you like....

The elitist Hollywood snobs can't be fully discredited by the way. There are moments where I would disagree with them like,' I think this movie is better than the other.' but overall what they nominate can have some sense to them.

So why bring up the Oscars at all then? They are ultimately pointless, just because someone wins doesn't mean that it is objectively good at that category.
