Hey guys. I am trying to venture more into Transformer add on 3D printed projects. So this is my first attempt at a conversion kit. I really love Transformers Prime Insecticon design and was a bit disheartened when we did not have a chance to get a Voyager sized figure. After looking a what wwoptimusprime did to his Predacon Rising Darksteel figure I started thinking it was a worth a shot trying to make a conversion. I think the biggest challenge will be to create a kit and still have the figure able to transform into an insect resembling the one in the animated series.

So far I have successfully achieved printing the head. It arrived from shapeways yesterday in their "Frosted Ultra Detail" material. Although not a faithful replica of what is seen on screen, I tried my best to hopefully keep the feel of the character intact while still adding my own personal touch to the aesthetics.

Next I want to try and make an add on for his shoulders.

    Thanks for watching.

Looks great! If this makes it to Shapeways for purchase, I'd totally consider it. Can't wait to see more!

Looks sweet so far. Curious how are you going to do the rest of the body with the add ons.

    Thanks brother.
As far as how I want to proceed with the rest of the add ons , I basically want to replace the old Darksteel wings section with a more insecticon looking shell that uses the same swivel. I also want to incorporate some larger shoulder pads and some insect legs. To give you a better idea I want to do what wwoptimus prime did with his Lego mock up, but instead of Lego parts I want to use 3D printed parts.

    Here is the original design:

The head of the bug could in a sense, fold up to fit under the shell in robot mode. That's were I was trying to go with mine. Just limited by the Legos I was using. I'm probubly going to get back to mine soon so, I'll post updates as soon as I can. :)

I am really excited to hear you are going forward on yours because it truly gives me ideas on how to proceed with this. I think that since the new head is too big to tuck inside the bot like the original did it will have to fold underneath the insect shell . It probably will have visible head syndrome from underneath.

Me too brother I really want to have an insecticon figure that would scale with other great molds from TFP line as a hulking brute .

Thanks brother It will be a long road but at least it is up to a good start me thinks.
