Is anyone else concerned about the current trajectory of the IDW collection for TFs?

I would love the Collections to come out more than twice per year, but I guess that would reduce the sales of the trades. So, no dice :-D

I do wonder how they'll handle Phase Three (which I'm assuming will start with Revolution). Will we see the Hasbroverse Collection? What will be the cut off for inclusion?

Yeah, Vol 7 is announced, and Vol 6 is due next month. Unfortunally that doesn't mean anything... just look at the UK-Collection (Vol. 6 was announced almost a year ago, pushed back several times, and now some people got their preorder canceld.

Concerned? Irritated as all heck... they were/are behind enough as it is. With the rate at which they stepped up the single books, the hardcover collections are falling way behind, and will only get further back as time goes on

I've given up completely. Leaving aside the drop in quality of both stories and artwork, I cannot personally support an organisation that gives tacit support to writers as abusive and prejudiced as IDW are hiring at the moment.

I believe he's referring to both Aubrey Sitterson and Magdalene Vissagio, both of which have made some controversial posts on social media in the past few years

Bingo - I'm one of those "CIS scum" that Vissagio wanted dead.

And Sitterson's options on 9/11 are frankly appallingly.

Until IDW get some writers who don't treat their readership like scum, I'll be leaving IDW books off of my comics order.

Man, as someone who has sworn off IDW because of the Hasbroverse, I have to admit the butthurt over Sitterson and Vissagio really makes me wanna pick up their books.

On the topic of the IDW collection, I wonder how they will handle it once they hit the crossover era. Like, will any issue that happens to feature a TF be included? Isn't Skywarp part of GI Joe now? Wouldn't that mean every Joe issue from this point forward would need to be included?

great question. i, too, have wondered this. for completeness sake, i want ALL comics that feature a transformer collected ... even the so-called g.i. joe revamp since it includes thundercracker. the way i look at this hasbro-multiverse is all these books are transformer comics. i love g.i. joe:a real american hero but i only like the hasbro universe joe comic if i think these are new supporting cast for the transformers idw collection. i don't care for mask but if they are instrumental to the tf universe i want them included in the hardcovers which is the way i collect transformers (while occasionally cheating and buying a random issue here and there). they really do need to release the "idw collection" hardcovers more often with all these new titles, cross-overs, annuals, etc. i am glad that roberts gets to continue the mythology without being drawn into the "events".

disgusting. i had a friend that on the very day of the cowardly terrorism make a joke concerning a picture of a man jumping out a high window due to the fire. it took me totally by surprise and i didn't respond immediately but when i did, we stopped seeing each other from that night-present. i'm not a prude and i have a sense of humor but this "joke" was from a place i cannot understand.

i hope this is okay starting a new thread but i couldn't find one discussing sitterson or the future of earth. please, if this was done incorrectly, delete or move to proper thread. first, i have to say, i am a non-censorship guy. i believe in free speech. BUT i cannot support g.i. joe's current writer sitterson due to his recent remarks and inhuman/hurtful words concerning 9/11. he has received a great deal of flack and i thought i'd give him the benefit of the doubt and excuse the post as a drunken late night ramble but he continues to buckle down. my opinion but onto more fun aspects of the transformers hasbro universe. i am loving the saga that began back in 2005 via the idw collection tf hardcovers. however, i have been cheating and reading an issue here and there plus recent crossovers and specials. i know many fans don't enjoy humans in their tf books but it has always been that way- and i'm not against it as long as lost light and other special titles focus on space opera and world building. earth has had it rough during this run what with the destruction of most of America and isreal, etc. costa showed us the realistic clean-up and government response but now, we got wraiths, venom, cobra, and more. i'd like to continue seeing the earth change to a point it no longer looks or feels like our earth. cybertronian metal replacing forests and decimated cities. eventually, i'd love seeing the earth totally destroyed but i'd like to see it gradually happen. i'll cease the rant there.

Well, considering, that the focus of this thread somehow whofts from "on-topic" to "the talents/artists post sh*t online", I`d like to rephrase the topic:
"Since I don't like indivudual issues (is just doesn't look that good...at all in a Billy-shelf) and the Collections (as good, as they are) are way too sparse to keep up with the stories (keep in mind: the "Collection" didn't even touched upon "Dark Cybertron"... What are the alternatives?
I mean: I DO like the format of the "IDW Collections", but on the other hand, I don't want to loose touch with the stories. I can't even talk with some of my friends, because they are /storywise( about 3 years apart from what I just read....

I have to ask, for those who wait on the collections: what did you expect? Once they caught up past the decade-old material, the pace for publication had to slow down. They're not gonna cannibalize the sales for the individual trade paperback collections just so those waiting on the IDW collections can get them sooner. It's kinda part of the business model. They get you in with these big hardcovers so you catch up, and hopefully become invested enough to buy the last couple tpbs and then start buying the single issues.

I get the Collections plus some of the singles digitally, which I read at my computer courtesy of Comixology. After some initial suspicion and Luddite scrolling round double-page spreads, I am now a convert to Panel View (specifically because of MTMTE 52 and the dramatic return of Overlord, which I'd have noticed on the page before I read the dialogue in a real comic.)

I would prefer to read them on a large colour tablet, maybe I'll treat myself one day :)

If I dip into the singles occasionally, that's enough for me to wait for the Collections. I don't need to read them all.

Also, FWIW, Phase 2 Volume 6 out in a few weeks' time covers Dark Cybertron and also the first Windblade mini... But yes, the Collections will slow further now there's more issues to cover - three ongoings (sometimes) + the most relevant Hasbroverse books.

Merged your thread with this discussion as many of the posts here are discussing your topic and their concerns on the IDW writing staff and where they're taking TF Comics atm. :thumb

if only two hardcovers per year, how about an upgrade in number of pages like the earlier additions were.

i, actgually, hope the idw collections for transformers includes ALL of the shared multi-verse. these titles, imo, are transfomer titles. AND, for the record, i thought the shared multi-verse would be crap and not progress the tf storyline but i actually enjoyed both revolution and first strike. i loved mantlo's rom and micronauts back in the day... and i disliked both books before i read them. i am interested now. these cross-overs have actually added to the tf multi-verse with flint being marrisa's dad, spike being on g.i. joe, ore-13, the microverse added a huge part to tf mythology by introducing an entirely new universe into tf's canon. i still don't like the art of g.i. joe or the crazy silly plots, however, i still want them inc luded in the tf idw collection as subplots involving mask, joe, etc. are important to me. i have only read the idw collections up to the latest volume and have pre-ordered the next two plus, i have cheated and bought some random issues and trades but i've missed a lot. SPOILERS:

timelines have always been important in tf sagas... especially tf uk and i'm glad you're celebrating christ mas and remembering the 1984 appearance of soundwave BUT has the idw timeline been changed via time travel? sorta shattred glass - like?
