They are mistaken. The add on kit is simply the G1 shaped head. The yellow and green sets come with the non-screaming face option (though I don't recall which figure it's actually packed with but it wasn't the one that was packed with the head).

 

So I’ve had a chance to mess around with the individual bots and got them dressed up with dry rubs and they are pretty fantastic. I don’t have any issues that I’ve seen so far and they look great on my ‘Con shelf. Hopefully this weekend I will have some time to try and get them in to combined mode.

 

If he ordered the sale price kit from TFSource, isn't that the V1 yellow, with the "cobra" head? IIRC the V1 sets did not come with a screaming face. The V2 sets included the G1 shaped head that offered both faces. So, depending on which yellow set purchased, one would get either the V1 head with a single face or the V2 head with two faces.

V1 set, "cobra" head, single face and silver thighs. V2 set, G1 head, two faces and color matched thighs. Is that right?

 

There's no V1 for the yellow set, only V2 with the original head with a normal and screaming face. The G1 head is an add on.

This. TF Source is simply confusing the G1 head add on with the changeable faces. He just has to reiterate it's the changeable face not the add on head. Beyond that, TF Source can't simply say they were photos provided by Toy World; they used the photos to sell the product and are responsible for it.

It took me a long time, but it was a fun project that I did over a few days. Some of those tabs are so tight it's lunacy, but since I wasn't sure if they're strong on purpose to reinforce the combined mode I just lived with them. It's very satisfying to slowly assemble the beast. I dread ever having to take him apart, though.

 

I hear ya, it's definitely something that I want to do over a couple of days as I don't have a lot of to dedicate to getting him all transformed and combined in one sitting.

 

I thought my son would want to keep him as Devastator, but after putting him together on a Saturday on Sunday he asked to turn them into the individual bots.

For all the nightmares I'd read about tolerances I thought they weren't so bad going back and forth to their individual modes or to Devastator. I'll probably rebuild him this weekend.

 

Just letting you know, TFsource did not have any parts to repair mine but they are paying for shipping to return him and giving me a replacement.

Thanks for that. I'm slowly opening and inspecting each, gonna get with TFsource once I know everything wrong with the set. So far, the broken arm and a missing pin. I'm gonna open the shoulder on Concrete this weekend to assess how much work the repair will be. If it looks like I can get a screw in, I'll probably just go ahead and do it that way.
