My understanding was he was going to show up in the final episode with the Witwickys seeing the Autobots off. What with Headmasters being the effective end of the ongoing narrative that started in More than Meets the Eye Part 1 and all.

(While Masterforce and Victory did carry on in the same continuity, they took a big step away, and dropped a lot of elements for the sake of telling their own stories)

I have to agree with you there, and before anyone assumes I should be burned with fire, I don't have any 3rd party Sunstreaker version and I have MP-39 Sunstreaker preordered. I think he looks awesome, but there are pics of him next to MP Sideswipe and they almost look like they come from two different figure lines. Sideswipe is from the days when MPs were more of a blend of G1 toy and show with a little extra detail tossed in for coolness. He fits with most of the MPs on my shelves, but some of the recent ones including MP Megatron and Inferno just don't fit as well. They focus too much on pure cartoon accuracy. That doesn't make them bad figures at all of course, but the new toon-first aesthetic is why I have a 3rd party Megatron and Inferno instead of official. I think due to Lamborghini being involved in the design process of this Sunstreaker, the alt mode will look so nice with my other Masterpiece figures that I can get past his more toon-like looks in bot mode, especially since he is packed with cool features and insane articulation.
Its just that the more plain looking G1 toon bot mode look is the only thing I don't love about this fella and some other recent MPs.

One of the most impressive gimmicks here is the rotating back-end of the car. We were speculating for years in the Speculation thread about how Takara could get around this. Make the rocket pack a detchable piece that could be taken off the altmode to appease Lamborghini - that always seemed like the most logical option to me. I had even written off Sunstreaker ever getting made anytime soon (even sold off my Sideswipe because he just wasn't the same without his bro), it just seemed like such a hurdle to overcome.

The fact that Takara went ahead and integrated the turbo chargers into the transformation with the option to display or not in alt-mode is mind-blowing. No one really thought it could be pulled off at this scale.

All the extra details, opening bonnet, flip-up headlights, opening doors - such nice little extra touches.

I'm sure that the red repaint will come with a more toy-accurate head, more painted car details, dark windows. No doubt. Plenty of options to swap over that toy-head to Sunstreaker with these ball-jointed heads, too.

Another marvel is how the engine transforms in robot mode versus car mode. The proportions are different from the two modes.

I hate it when petiole say "MPs were a mix of toy and toon in the old days"...NO, NO THEY WEREN'T!

The original masterpiece formula (starting with MP-10) was 70% toon, 10% toy, and 20% artist's interpretation. All they've done is taken out that last 20% and increased the others to 80% toon 20% toy. Heck, MP-29 is nearly a CARBON COPY of his original figure. He may have more toon accurate proportions and colors, but when compared side by side, every detail from the original shockwave toy is carried over. The only thing Takara has done is take the guesswork out of the line so that everyone doesn't have to try and duplicate hasui's design sensibilities. No matter which designer tackles a figure (cause believe it or not there are more than two), they're all shooting for the same bar, make the toon real life with a licensed alt. mode.

Why hate? Toy collecting is supposed to be fun.

For instance, I like how you contradicted yourself there by saying- "MPs were a mix of toy and toon in the old days"...NO, NO THEY WEREN'T!"
Then directly after that, saying- "The original masterpiece formula (starting with MP-10) was 70% toon, 10% toy, and 20% artist's interpretation."

So then, they were a mix of G1 toy and toon before, but more toon now.... Like people have been saying. But obviously you see things different than some do.

There is absolutely no denying that up until a few of the most recent G1 Masterpirce figures the aesthetic was more of a mix of G1 toy and toon, while now they are more toon styled. That's not even an opinion, its the fact of how they are designing them now.

Oh dear God, I'm just going to end the bickering and say what we are all thinking! Combiner Wars Deluxe Sunstreaker is simply the best version of Sunstreaker ever made. The End.

Now that everything has been cleared up, we can get on to serious business. :p

Sun streaker was my first Transformer ever. That G1 toy has been with me ever since. He's become my channel mascot. And I've been waiting for an official MP Sunstreaker since MP-12 was first released. And to be honest, there are things about MP Sunstreaker that I simply do not like at all. The faux chest being the main one. I can't even begin to express how I wish TT had went more with the G1 toy approach using the actual roof and windshield on the new MP. At least part of it. But, this isn't the case. And as much as I wish it were, the overall design still came out looking pretty damn good. Even though I'm not getting my ideal MP Sunstreaker, I am still happy that there is a ton of good things about it that more than make up for it. In addition, there are some new features engineered into it that we haven't seen before. And that's great. As for the backpack, I don't find it too offensive at all. The real windshield ad roof have to go somewhere. You can't have a kibble-free bot when using faux parts simply because the actual parts have to stow somewhere. And that somewhere is usually the back. This is certainly going to be a very interesting release. My ONLY complaint is that we have to wait until January 2018 to get him.

Look at this, someone actually making sense! MP Sunstreaker is an amazing piece of engineering! Could it be better? Of course, but that would make it more expensive and people are already crying about the cost. People are going to have their own opinions about... well, everything! And it's important to remember that that's OK. Does this strike me as the perfect MP Sunstreaker? No. But I'm still damn excited to get him in my hands early next year!

On the 3rd day of Christmas Takara gave to me.....3 MP Sunstreakers!
(Of course this being Sunstreaker, he would demand the line, "5 sunset gold Sunstreakers" instead) :lol

I don't like the floating head, but if they told me the toy was designed by Shoji Kawamori I would understand and I would embrace it.

It's not a floating head, that neck panel with the three ridges folds up to allow his head to look down his chest or further forward. Otherwise it looks like this:

But yes, the head is on a ball-joint. It will make it much easier to swap over the toy-accurate head that will come with Red Sunstreaker, for those who want to give their yellow Sunstreaker that option.
