So, I tried a few and the absolute best I could come up with were these.

    0904172056_HDR.jpg 0904172056a_HDR.jpg 0904172139_HDR.jpg

All the other blues I've seen thus far are too dark, too bright, not the right shade, etc. Then of course you have all the other colors and they just don't look right at all.

A black head with a silver or white face might work, but this is the closest color match I could find. Hope this helps.

Hmm, a dab or two of paint, and Freezeout would make a reasonable G1 toy-style head for Slugslinger.

Mine arrived in the mail today, and I don't think I can add anything beyond what TFXProtector mentioned in his review.

I definitely prefer Slugslinger over Misfire, though. The shoulders work better, the wings aren't as much of a pain going from one mode to the next, and the weapon is probably my favourite out of any of the TR deluxes in how it's implemented.

All, in all, a great way to end the (deluxe) line!

Got my SS today. Misfire is my favorite of the trio, but I love the god awful G1 alt mode on SS. Thing of beauty. 20170909_170217.jpg

    Got my Slugslinger yesterday.

Jet mode is bonkers, yet kinda dull due to the colours at the same time. Think it needed less grey.

Robot mode is a hoot, nice detailing all round but especially on the chest. The head is a little dull compared to his compatriots.

    All three jets together.

    Triple threat!

If I had to rank them, Triggerhappy would be my favourite due to best transformation and robot mode. Misfire second for jet mode and slightly less great robot mode, and Slugslinger third for essentially being a little duller than the others in both modes. Has the best gun out of all of them mind, which I suppose is good for a Targetmaster. That said, he's the third best of one of the best jet moulds ever. I'd put them all right there with the Classics Seekers.

Some day, I would like Slugslinger repainted in his Rebirth color scheme.

and with a new head repainted as Energon Slugslinger

Can those with the figure upload close-up shots of his face?
So far from what I've seen there's a weird "milk mustache" oval around his mouth. Hoping it's not widespread, as it would be a deal breaker for me.

Mine is the same way. Like a molding line or something, very faintly around the mouth, beneath the paint.

I don't have the figure in hand at the time of writing, but I managed to find a Youtube video that has a relatively clear close-up of the head (apologies for the poor image quality) -

The obround-shaped indentation surrounding the mouth also appears to be present on the Takara Legends version of the figure.

I hadn't even noticed it until you mentioned it. It looks like "laugh lines" and his lower lips unless you're looking for it.

Had lots of "work" done. Maybe you could say he got a bit addicted to plastic surgery. Did you know once upon a time he really just looked like Ramjet?

Headmaster wise I bet the one from High Brow would look good on him, Sticking with Decepticons Overload looks good on ANYTHING

Slugslinger is probably my favorite Decepticons, tied with Skywarp, so I had very high expectations of this mold. Just got mine today from Amazon (which the folded in half, thanks Amazon). Long story short, god I love this figure. Enough remolded parts where he feels unique even though he's a partial retool. Since I believe Misfire was the original intent of this mold, based on transformation; I'm ok with this remold since Slugslinger's original G1 toy's legs transformed was practically the same. I do wish they would have slightly remolded Triggerhappy's legs because he didn't have vertical stablizers on the original mold, but for Misfire and Slugslinger, it works great. As far as QC goes on my copy, his head peg is super tight, probably the best out of the three. Paint is good, no issues. His legs are a little looser than the other copies of the mold, but still holds poses pretty well. Wings sometimes pop out in jet mode, but I cleaned off the mold release oil and they seem to hold a lot better, and I have to really move it around for them to pop out. All in all, I have no real complaints. I would love for them to release a recolored "rebirth" version, but this is one of the few figures where I like the toy colors as much as the animation colors. Best of luck to people trying to get him, since it's the final wave and tracking him down will probably be a pain, but if you find him, I would highly recommend picking him up, even if you have the other two.

Fellow Skywarp guy huh. He was my 2nd transformer, still like the Character best of anyone except MAYBE Soundwave who was my first Transformer.

There is something very Valkyrie-like about him that I simply adore. It’s gotta be the wings. image.jpg

    Slugslinger & Caliburst

Misfire and his retool Slugslinger were revealed at the Australian Toyfair via an Australian fan event. And Slugslinger is a retool of Misfire as well as both being retools of Triggerhappy: there's a parts frame in common between the two toys that Triggerhappy doesn't have making up the bulk of his waist section, but not the front, the hinges connecting the shoulders to the body and the hinges connecting the front of the plane to the robot's back. If you look at the back of Slugslinger's shoulders you'll see the hole that Misfire's wings are attached to.

Slugslinger feels a lot like Misfire in robot mode: same legs as peg Triggerhappy, same articulation as Misfire, and jet nose, or in this case noses on his back! The blue and the off white/grey he's coloured in, while a close match for the original, look a little off colour.

The gun, or guns, are disappointing me. Both Triggerhappy & Misfire had attach side by side guns, though Triggerhappy needed some help to hold his horizontally. Slugslinger has two guns: a blue dual cannon with a seat and a grey single barrelled gun. The latter fits between the barrels of the former to form a longer combined weapon but it isn't really doing it for me. The space for the Titanmaster only really accommodate his feet so he ends up sitting on rather than in the weapon.

Transformation: with the exception of the wings being on a hinger fixed to the body rather than one linked the shoulder this transforms identically to Misfire. Relatively simple, though tabbing the arms into the wings and the body seems a bit of a pain here, but simple is a relief after the nightmare that was Energon Slugslinger

The jet mode is a near perfect replica of the original Slugslinger jet. However because of the size of the toy his Titanmaster Caliburst has to sit in the body of the jet between the twin jet noses and not in one of the jet nose cockpits themselves. To accomplish that would have needed a Voyager sized toy. Your mileage may vary depending on how essential you thought this feature would be. Like his mould mates he also lacks anywhere to mount the combined weapon on the top of the toy, which to me is a major failing, but still has 5mm sockets on his shoulders and under his wings.

I can't say Slugslinger is setting my world on fire. He hasn't got the mad transformation of Triggerhappy or the insane colours of Misfire. Part of this is probably due to him being an end of line toy I feel I've paid too much for. When he was revealed at the Australia toy fair it was expected he'd have new deluxe wavemates and indeed toys in other sizes released at the same time. I can name you a good half a dozen possible repaints and remoulds that could have been done from existing toys to help further or complete various head & Targetmaster groups. Hasbro tried to compensate for the toy being the only new one in his case by packing him 3 per case but since he was packed with 2 x Rodimus, 2 x Kup and 1 x Hardhead, none of which were terribly in demand, it presented online retailers with a problem. Kapow passed on the case, IDToys sold Slugslinger at an inflated price and BBTS only sold him in sets with other toys. The possibility of solid cases at a later date has been mooted but I hope Hasbro have learnt that packing one wanted toy with several older ones is a bad idea.

Although he's got minor issues in-hand (that strange oval on his face sculpt, the lack of paint on his chest), I still think he's worth grabbing if you can. The alt mode is great, like nothing else on my shelf right now. Bot mode is great too, but that's where I'd like a few small improvements.
Final verdict: I'm glad I paid regular price. He's good, but not a must-have.
