If inducted, this would be the biggest and most significant moment in the history of the entire brand since the making of the first movie 10 years ago.

Stick was already inducted in 2008. Cardboard box was 2005.

Inducted Toys: Alphabetical List | National Toy Hall of Fame

I don't see any card games inducted last year. They inducted Dungeons & Dragons, Fisher Price Little People, and the Swing. It looks to me like they tend to induct one classic/timeless toy, one group activity/game, and one solitary toy each year. I'd bet on sand, Uno, and either Matchbox, MLP, or Transformers this year.

This is everything I'd want to say but worded better. All I'd like to add is that transformers is a franchise that continues to innovate every time it releases a new figure. And no matter how much backstory and development there is for any given character, they are still at their core, a puzzle. And 8 ball is... a ball. Frankly I'm surprised we didn't win years ago.

I'm here to see TFs lose to SAND! :lol

Although, for this award to have any merit whatsoever, they should PUT A TRANSFORMER IN THE SAND.

If the kid ignores the toy and goes for the sand, I can admit to sand being superior! :D

EDIT: To be fair, sand IS a cool toy...

Who needs cars that can transform into robots when we have tiny cars that don't transform?

    C'mon Matchbox!!!

Sand might be more popular if the distribution wasn't designed to screw anyone who isn't a WalMart stockroom scalper. Even when sand shows up on TRU's website it's $10 more expensive and only available on the west coast.

They alway add one "toy" that makes you think "WTF" but then when you see w kid go ape shit over just being in a sandbox you get it. Other entries like this include a box, a stick and a blanket. So I think Sand is a shoe in, and I don't see how Matchbox is all that different from Hot Wheels Inducted in 2011. I Think once voting starts the MLP and TF fandoms will guarantee their victory.

I just think there's an important distinction between "toy" and "thing kid plays with".

Maybe, but toys all come from a "thing kids play with" being refined into something just for them. I can guarantee you that ancient boys picked up sticks and had pretend fight with each other while there sisters bundled old scraps of cloth and mothered them. Sticks and blankets were the first toys, then someone thought it might be a good idea to make them more realistic, and safer.

They were. There was even a fan vote. Dungeons and Dragons won. Fans here acted like they didn't care.

We don't need a nomination. We don't need awards to tell us that Transformers are the most kickass toys around.

You may not. I may not. But perhaps it means something to the Diaclone design team...or the 80's Hasbro marketing team...or a number of writers/artists/producers who had even a pinky-toe dip into the franchise. Sometimes, it's okay to think about Transformers as more than "what's in it for me?".
