Have you even bothered reading the rest of this thread? Several people have stated precisely why Hasbro had to take this on.

Trademarks must be defended, or they will be lost.

What do you mean? Hasbro is completely in the right, Mattel is the one that screwed up on behalf of DC and should have known better. Hasbro owns the Bumblebee trade mark, has used it constantly over the last 11 years. While the last time Mattel and DC even bothered was 2004 and clearly didn't care because face it, DC couldn't give a shit about girls and women, that's why they canceled that show and Young Justice. It's only now that they bothered with Wonder Woman, is because someone in their marketing department sees progressiveness as a trend to expoit.

    I can see
    a. a lot of goodwill going from the general public online the consensus seems to be that its frivolous lawsuit regardless of how much they had to fight it
    b. supposedly they lost money or broke even on the last knight
    c. gi joe tanked badly and they are setting up their cinematic universe so they need to be very careful going ahead to take away the bad taste those movies left
d.price of plastic is going up so if dc time warner tie them up that will be a lot of money going towards this which could be spent on toys I suspect a lot more hollow forearms in the future

What are we talking about, maybe several pennies per figure to fill some of those gaps?

    a. "General public online" is an oxymoron. The general public also does not know much about these laws to understand why it is not frivolous. How many sites in your consensus are dedicated to DC?
b & c. Bumblebee is in many lines, it's not just about the movies. They can't leave their trademark for a consistently popular character unprotected.
    d. DC could also end up paying Hasbro for the use of the trademark Hasbro already owns.

your point about dc paying Hasbro for the use is the most amicable solution but I doubt the suits will go for that

*sigh* For the umpteenth time, they have to be in the same part of the market. Toys vs. toys.

To be fair, I'm positive he's joking but you're probably like me in that something like that little detail hurts the joke. Doesn't make it unfunny, just not as funny as it could be. :D

That said, clearly they're trying to cash in on Hasbro's IP because who names their product Bumblebee when said product is tuna? :)  Is Prime Rib next to fall?

I'm sure he WAS trying to joke, but it's not so much that the little detail" "hurts the joke" (at least to me) as that it pushes the "joke" into a mean-spirited dig against Hasbro, and I'm not cool with that.

Your joke here worked much better, although of course it required the context already set up.

I am guessing the DC character will be called DC's Bumblebee or another descriptor from here on out. or Worse case Autobot Bumblebee for hasbro , though i feel that is unlikely.

I’d guess the first one given that bumblebee is about to get a multimedia marketing blast, and “autobot bumblebee” doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue :p

I forget the character's secret identity, but I imagine that DC will use that name. I don't think "Modifier Bumblebee" would work any better than "Autobot Superman" would.

They can probably just call her BB or something. No, wait! Then Takara will sue them for using their Transformers character name!

I agree with you hasbro has too much cash involved to go any other direction.

I don't recall her real name either but i suppose they could go that way, who knows if they will.
