Hey @Vangelus, not sure if it's universal problem or just me, but your audio gets all kinds of funky, skipping back and forth and sounding choppy. It was especially bad while you were talking about Overlord.

Huh I heard one skip when I went back and checked, nothing I can do about it unfortunately :(

I CAN do something about the bit I forgot to edit where Aaron lost connection though! Going to clean it up now and upload a revised mp3, so get the current one if you're

    weird and want broken podcasts

    I guess

I was playing a fullscreen game and thought "Wow my audio player is freezing horribly" and figured it was lag caused by the game, but yeah, that is some nasty skipping. At 1:09:25 it gets REAL bad while talking about Overlord. If it happens again, you might need to figure out what those two episodes had in common recording-wise and see what the cause might've been. Hope it isn't the move to new programs.

EDIT: Hearing some more, I think that might exclusively be @Vangelus' audio doing that.

It would entirely be the new programs if it occurred with just me - has it happened in another episode?? Also I skipped around and listening to chunks of my audio it didn't seem to be too terrible throughout but maybe I missed all the bad spots for the most part haha

There are always ways to fix things eventually, there just may be times where a bit of an episode ends up as the sacrificial lamb

Regarding MakeToys Galaxy Meteor and how they were able to sell some at TFN but potentially not have a full production run ian warehouse ready to go, Spence had a good theory:

It was definitely just a couple points in this episode where I noticed it being real bad for a small time frame. I mean, at worst, you could just slow down that bit of glitchy audio and say it's vaporwave podcasting.:V

When there are listener questions, is it possible to read them at half \"Blurr\" speed instead of sounding like a micro machine commercial? Seems kinda insulting to the person and annoying to keep up with. I realize they can be long questions but I feel it\'s a disservice to the listener especially considering how much time is spent off topic on some episodes.

Otherwise keep up the good work!

The problem with Masterpiece-a-likes is that they are what sells. The profit margin on these 3rd party figures is so low that they must sell between 50-70% of their stock before they start to make any money. I know everyone hates to talk about profits and all "soulless corporations" are evil and what not but these 3rd party groups are small businesses and in a small business those evil "corporate profits" are what the small business owners feed their kids and pay their home mortgage with. Not everyone who runs a business is a millionaire. Most just make enough to get by.

Just look at Maketoy's Galaxy Meteor. Now I don't work with them and I don't know any of this for sure, but from what I've gathered about the industry I'd bet the production of Galaxy Meteor is going to be in the 150-200k USD range. Now, they have up to this point probably put down a relatively small chunk of that cost to get the tooling ready for a production with prototypes and test-shots and even several finished samples that they sold at the con and sent around to reviewers. Now to move forward withe full scale production They are going to have to lay down the bulk of the $150-200k. I'm assuming (but again I don't know) Maketoy probably gets about $92-ish from each toy given that a third of the total cost usually goes to retailers. That means Maketoy needs to sell anywhere from 1600 to 2100 units JUST to pay the factory. The thing is, if pre-sales don't get anywhere near that 1600 unit bottom line there just isn't going to be any reason to move forward with the production run.

Unfortunately this whole Galaxy Meteor issue is pretty representative of the more risky 3rd part designs. Most 3rd party companies struggle to sell 3k units. MP-a-likes are pretty much the only things that are "safe" because they sell. They sell because we buy them. So they make them. Those more interesting designs that you and I would like to see more of just don't. It stinks, but it's the truth. Trust me, as a wan-a-be designer I wish it weren't.

I really thought it was @GogDog who had a pretty active dislike for Leader Ironhide, not @Aaron .

Also, the following is a pretty good explanation regarding my comments on "sunk costs"

Sunk cost fallacy: Throwing good money after bad

Easiest way to think about it in this situation is if you imagine a hypothetical where MakeToys is expecting to lose money on every Galaxy Meteor sold. In that case it makes no sense to produce the figure even if they've already spend 10's or 100's of thousands on a steel mold -- you're throwing good money after bad.

Now, your financial guys should prevent that from happening before deciding to cut the mold by modeling correctly. However, the fact that you've already cut the mold is irrelevant to any subsequent decisions if the financial model changes after it's already done.

Glad I wasn't the only one experiencing the weird skippy audio towards the end. Was worried my podcast app was dying.

You may not like Tim Hortons donuts Vangelus, but you cannot argue against a double double. They still have a good cup of coffee.

I'm from Buffalo and love Hortons when I go back. They aren't great but they aren't bad. They are regular good donuts. Your stupid fancy pants donuts and Krispy Kreme killed regular shops. Yet while Dunkin and Hortons are expanding, KK has been cutting back and closing locations over the last decade.

And furthermore, why the hell are we talking about donuts on a Transformers podcast?

iirc american Tim Hortons near the border are borderline a different franchise than the canadian one, which had its menu gutted a while ago

as for the question, the answer lies in the topic list!

Oh man, I had (pretty sure it\'s had) a couple of those 3.75\" Mortal Kombat toys and my first Scorpion had a janked up elbow that fell off.  I replaced him with a better one, but then had The Idea.  I took a hobby knife and carved up the bicep stump and broke out some crude paining skills to make it red and black, so it looked like his arm had been blasted off.  I even got a white bit of plastic from something and stuck in a bit to poke out a little to simulate bone.  (I\'m pretty sure) I don\'t have him anymore but I know he\'d be the one to come for me.  Not for modding him, but because I gave him up.

The current thrid party market is why I will forever respect the non-MP efforts like cross dimension which could\'ve easily been it\'s own slick IP (with reduced buy-in because transformers nerds are not guaranteed toy nerds).  Of MP-alikes I do enjoy some are still trying to aim outside the HasTak & third party collective boxes, like the KFC Horrorcons.
