TakaraTomy's version also doesn't have the Autobot insignia on the chest.

That pale grey looks so bad. Since they are using the same piece that was on display at WonFes, I'm still wondering if this is just a test shot or what the actual figure will look like.

Still debating if I should cancel my pre-order. As things stand, I much prefer the Hasbro's over this.

Hmm, so does the Takara version come with more extras? I see an axe and shield that look like the ones that came with M01 Commander (not sure were WJ KO'ed those bits from)

I also like the movie transformations, they are very impressive. But whenever I see the more complex figures animated I find myself wishing that the movies would cheat less and show the transformations more clearly.

I suppose its the G1 fan in me but I like to be able to see were the alt mode parts go and I prefer there to be as few robot only parts as possible.

Having said that, the movie designs have grown on me, even if the movies themselves could be much better.

Er, but it does... unless that's just a red reflection, in which case... Damn.

I will suggest that you cancel your pre order & just get the Hasbro version. I will be getting the Hasbro version after seeing the picture. Seriously what is Takara even doing using such pale grey instead of metallic silver.

Lots of paint chipping on the blue bands of the feet on the figure showcased in the magazine.

Hmmm. Yeah, paints applied on metal do chip overtime especially if the metal surface isn't gloss surface, i mean there are occasions.
Unless the paint used is car paints or a paint with applied top-coating on it for preservation.

But still it seems the chest are properly tucked and the truck mode, the blue roof hinged is placed correct.
And the hood and smokestacks are properly flushed.

Still, we need an actual video demo of the toy itself.
But the light grey plastic though.

The truck mode shown in the magazine is a stock photo. It's not transformed from the figure the magazine had in hand for their photo shoot.

Why they didn't take any photos of the in hand figure in truck mode? Hmmm...

I must be one of those lucky few to manage to have a truck mode that is not out of whack. Flat hood, side panels aligned and flush, bottom of smokestacks actually reaching the grey connector pieces. Though I did skip the tabs that connects the fuel tanks to the blue shin panels.
    Pardon the glare, will probably take a better image tomorrow ^^;

Did you paint your fuel tanks? They look one uniform color in your photo.

Yeah. Bugs the crap outta me, so I gave it a layer of silver, as well as painting in all the other parts that also needed more paint.

It bothers me that Optimus Prime is able to compact into a smaller alt mode, but Bumblebee is more or less the same. So they look great together in robot mode, but in alt mode, Bee looks massive. All in all, I think it does Prime a disservice to shrink into a truck smaller than the leader.
