Southern Cross is great. Mospeada hasn't aged well which is funny because as a kid I liked Mospeada over Southern Cross but for some reason, I prefer SC to Mospeada (tho' the mech designs in Mospeada trumps pretty much any of SC's). Yamoto is on my list to get. I do have Captain Harlock/Galaxy Express and Cobra.

Bluray of Mach Go Go Go would be aces.

RE: Gatchaman subs. It's funny because I have two subbed versions of the series and both have some real odd choices made. Not sure why that is but it would be great if they were to make another go at it (tho' I think at least one of the versions I have is fan-subs).

It's a shame really. They could do it as a pre-order like Animeigo used to do years ago; which they would do a release, so long as they had xx# of orders purchased upfront to justify the costs involved.

Edit: Looks like they still do that... AnimEigo Crowdfunding Projects

I miss Crunchyroll sometimes. It was one of the services that got the axe when me n the missus did some budget restructuring. Found a few gems on there like Kill la Kill that I probably wouldn't have come across otherwise.

Even if you were fluent in the language, Japanese anime box sets cost, like, a bazillion dollars.

Japanese was pretty easy to learn, since I lived there as a kid. I always love the original Japanese voices especially in Macross, Gundam and Dragon Ball.

The Japanese ones are definitely more expensive, but the goodies you get sometimes helps out. Look at the Dragon Ball Dragon Box sets, as well as the Rurouni Kenshin and Macross box sets.

Oh, I've looked at the Macross sets... and wept at the prices.

Recently, prices on some new stuff has dropped drastically to half a bazillion dollars.

But honestly, it's more common here in Japan to rent. Even if you had the money, no one here has the space to collect more than one series when they spread everything out to 2 episodes per disc the way they often do. I mean, I love Gatchaman, but 52 dvd boxes for the first series alone takes up a tremendous amount of space in a typical Japanese apartment. Can't be done.

Haha yeah, that's the easiest way to learn. Both my kids speak Japanese fluently also. But that's due to my wife speaking to them, and us having access to a Slingbox in Japan to watch local TV. Whenever I'm translating something, sometimes I gotta lean on them for assistance :D

At least the Macross Delta series on Blu Ray comes with English subs. I guess it's Bandai's way of giving the middle finger to Harmony Gold.

I had a feeling a few years back when takara first advertised the bluray that it was going to just be the same SD masters they have been using since the laserdisks in the 90's but i hoped they would at least rescan thier tapes but judging from the amazon listing that aint happening. I thought at the time that if shout factory have no way make a full HD version then takara have no chance considering the near 20 year old master they have released multiple times. Saying all that if i can find it alot cheaper than the £200 they want for it i may have to look into getting it for the collection.

I wish macross was cheaper on blu as well, managed to get the macross F movies and Do you remember love movie in a lot which i had to use justifiable piracy to get a subbed copys, at least they are giving us subs on the new releases, anything that can screw over harmony gold is a bonus in my book.

Nope. At least those'd be worth something.

I for one would love to see those straight-to-video clipshows they'd made of HM, MF and V since those haven't been released since the original VHS.

The production masters are entirely on film but contain a ton of animation errors. The broadcast masters are on video only - I think they were originally on film too but those were lost? Someone correct me if I'm mistaken.

I look forward to hearing your comments on it, if for nothing else than at least how the image quality checks out.

And yet Skyfire is missing his left hand in both :D  Do note the Shout! version has the Decepticon symbol on his chest, so I suspect the softer image is due to a video rather than film source.

Can't say I blame him, considering some animation errors still made it into the broadcast versions as well, trying to figure out what was actually fixed and what wasn't without some kind of a list would be like putting together a jigsaw puzzle without any edge pieces.

Unfortunately all the clip shows for fight super robot life and 2010 are prob lost and where most likely never on vhs at all and where only aired on TV. In the booklet for masterforces japanese release they have a note that says that 2 clip shows are lost for that series luckily tho i have a copy of one of the missing 2 so only 1 is missing in total from the series. I keep a page of my blog with all the missing episodes Here so its easier to search for them. Most of the other clip shows you're looking for can be downloaded from my blog might need to use the tags to search for the posts tho as i need to sort out the site a bit. As far as i remember the headmasters heroic legend clip shows, masterforce clip shows and victorys are on the site minus the lost ones along with a copy of the fight super robot life pilot miniseries.

walruslaw is the man when it comes down to clip shows. I actually built some DVDs up from his clip shows and the Japanese releases of Prime/RiD/etc. I've seen the FSRL clip shows (lived in Japan when they aired), and wished I would have taped them.

Well they must be if they were direct to video. I saw a clip from the Victory finale one and it actually had newly written dialogue and edited into a proper narrative rather than just narration telling what's going on, with an appearance from Masterforce characters as well as Star Saber having flashbacks to past Autobot leaders, which was really quite interesting.

Is there a "best" version of the series on DVD? I would like to get whichever one has the best special features.

In my opinion the 25th Matrix of Leadership Boxset from Shout is the best. Problem is that the Rhino releases had some different special features than the Shout one, but you get a 16th Bonus disc in the boxset with extra special features than the normal retail releases.

Are those actually worth anything tho? I mean if they're anything like the quizzes or the crappy cutout masks you can print out on the Metrodome DVDs in the UK, I think most of us can live without them.

What specials are on the matrix box set that isn't on the standard silver one? I was thinking king of picking up the silver one soon.
