G1 music is mostly put into 2 types of categories. The late Season 3 style of synth/rock music that was influenced by Vince DiCola's movie score, and the orchestral style before Transformers: The Movie. I will also say that the orchestral style can be put into 2 categories itself. There is the season 1 style that sounds very close to late 60s and early 70s compositions, and then there is the Season 2 style music that was used in both parts of season 3, and as a staple of G.I. Joe's television series Background Music. This type of orchestral score seemed to be a little bit darker in tone than Season 1's music, which at some times could be a bit campy in my opinion. What is your favorite style of music? The season Vince DiCola style, the G.I. Joe orchestra of season 2, or the early series Season 1 orchestral style of music? For me I love the late Season 3 style of music and I think it still holds up today! It was a nice update to the series when they started using it.
Season 1. Listening to the recent Season 2 release, 95% of it didn't make me think Transformers. It made me think they misnamed the GIJoe soundtrack. Season 3 was meh to me for the most part. There is 1 song from Season 3 that I've always wanted. It was also used in the GIJoe movie where Pythona is first attacking the Terrordrome. Speciacally when she tosses that plant monster into the guy's face.
The recent Season 2 release? When and where was this released? I thought they were still working on the music with Sony?

I like them all. The season one and two music had a more nostalgic feel to them at times. While the Season three music was more intense, on edge and really drove the action.
Can I vote for the score and soundtrack of the 86 movie? Because to me that's the official Transformers Score.

Season 3. So many great synth gems. Love the different Ratbat variations: Finally, this one will get you going for battle. Reminds me slightly of the BW theme in terms of purpose--shit was going down whenever it was played.
Seasons 1-3 are all perfectly fine in their own ways. Vince's synth score was perfect. But my favorite? Kick Axe, a.k.a. Spectre General
Seasons 1 and 3 for me. I love how at least one of the season 1 tracks conveyed a sense of how alien the Transformers were.
