I've said this before, but it would have been easy to shrink the trailer on MP-22 and keep the cab the same size. That would have resulted in a smaller bot mode. It's not the torso that is too big. It's the massive arms and legs.

It really wouldn't have hurt anything if the trailer could only carry two or three cars rather than four.

I have long hoped that a 3P would do Magnus as the TT one is simply inadequate. Poor articulation is its cardinal sin but skewed proportions and excessive kibble are also high on the list. KFC's attempt goes too far the other way by being far too tall. I would eagerly pick up a FT version but given that there is an official one, which has generally been better received than TT's Hot Rod was, if it ever happens I expect it will be too far in the future to really matter.

I personally think MP - 22 is perfect. It got reissued too, so I might just not be the only one.

    :)

Also, honestly not trolling, what makes some of you think FT would do UM or, hell, Megatron? I get some not liking it, but wouldn't that be financial suicide? Why not do the figures that have not been done?

I'm asking from a financial standpoint here. It doesn't make a difference to me really, as I'm more than ok with the Official versions (MP 36, to me, is the best Transformer I've ever owned, period).

Other than "I simply don't like it", I'd love to know what really makes some of you think FT would do such a thing.... Are they that big, and most importantly, that solvent?

The conversation was based on Dalianjj's quote:
That's good enough to at least entertain the idea. As for financials, I couldn't begin to guess. Obviously having no direct competition from Takara is better for any 3P company. However, we are seeing more and more that the 3P companies are willing to release MP figures of characters that have already been done by Takara. There are versions of the seekers, Rodimus, Grimlock and others that 3P companies have done after the official versions. On top of that, more and more I think the 3P companies are living in a crowded marketplace with a ton of competition from other 3P companies. They hardly ever capture all of a market these days. It's a changing environment that's all about market share.

It's a pretty safe bet there aren't three other versions of Ultra Magnus sitting waiting to be announced, because the official already exists. If FTs thinks there are enough people dissatisfied with MP-22 to sell several thousand figures while being relatively certain they won't have other competition...it may make financial sense for them to have a go. They don't need to beat Takara. They just have to capture a large enough niche.

Wonder why he said he's too big because the scale chart shows him at perfect size.

Just received a "rebuilt/fixed" copy of MP-09 today. The customiser fixed a whole lot of the original issues and I basically got the figure that Takara was supposed to release all those years ago. Unfortunately , it's showing it's age and just feels a little clumsy and awkward to me. Now owning DX9 Carry, MP-28 Hot Rod and MP-09 Rodimus, I have three different MP versions of the character, none of which really cut it for me. I am very much eager to see Hoodlum come up for -pre-order and I sincerely hope that FT decide there's enough of a market to do a matching Rodimus Prime.
I really want to see a modern take on the Prime version of the character, one that fits either the new Takara style (toon-centric) or the old Takara style (which FT and XTB have perfected). Between those three companies, someone has to be thinking about an new Rodimus, surely?

I do really like my official Hot Rod, but IMO its most obvious negatives are the flat chest and a few things with the bot mode proportions. The legs seem excessively long and the breadth of the chest makes his arms a tad too wide-set.

This model seems like it's addressed those quite well, so I can see a need for this guy.

I think if the forearms were thinner he would ve been perfect...I dont mind him being so tall at all

I agree that TT Magnus has been generally well received, unlike TT's Hot Rod, which has had a more mixed reaction. And I don't think MP Magnus is a monster and if it goes much longer without word of a 3P version I'll probably shrug and pick him up. But I think he's very disappointing compared to what he could and should have been. You will probably not be surprised to hear I don't think much of MP-36 either.

As to why I think FT would do a Magnus, I actually think it unlikely given his mostly positive reception and the plethora of other bots to work on. I just wish FT would do one as based on their past work their designs consistently appeal to me. Given that Dalianjj once made an offhand comment that Magnus needed a re-do I've held onto hope that he might get announced at some point. It seems unlikely and I'd certainly be interested if any of other 3P company of similar caliber were to take a stab.

I think Hot Rod needs a do-over more than Magnus and am excited that Hoodlum is seemingly a live project. I think that entirely due to quirky circumstances around the timing of
TT's release and FT's design work combined with the mixed reception
TT received. I've no doubt that if the timing had been different FT would have moved on to other things.

An FT Ultra Magnus better make the effort to have the truck transform into some variant of MP-10. Both Takara and KFC have already let me down in that regard.

FT wouldn't even need to make the full figure if they did MP UM. All we need is a proper shell that would fit a white MP10.

They did have a prototype for mp-01 armor.

So use mp-10u and make it from that

Plans may be a bit of a stretch. Work in progress concept I'd buy. But, best I recall, his higher ups wanted a less expensive build and the loudest part of the fandom wanted an all in one Ultra Magnus.

Debatably, yes. However, that's a strong leap of faith on FT's part to expect fans to buy a KO just so they can buy FT's power armor. I know, it happened in CHUG but the official figure [albeit not exactly the easiest toy to come by] was out for while before a third party came along to fill a void.

Nope, if FT were to release power armor, best they go the full play and make Magnus as well. If nothing else, they at least control all aspects of the integration that way. Be a real kick to the junk if the KOs suddenly made a mold change that mucked up it's mate with the FT armor.

Better yet, FT could pull a recent Hasbro move, release the two part Sentinel Prime/Powered Convoy repaint first then release the more desired Magnus set.

    Hoodlum something or other.

A bit confused why anyone thinks FansToys would bother producing some kind of toy based, Magnus/Prime armour configuration when everything they've done up to this point is G1 toon? I get that people want certain things but FT aren't the company to appeal to for that. DX9 maybe, or possibly Toyworld? FT, KFC, XTB ... these guys are all MP G1 Toon. They'll consider repainting into something Toy influenced if it's easy but toon is their priority. In the unlikely event that FT do a new MP Magnus, it isn't going to be an armoured prime.

What I would really love is for Ft to do Rodimus Prime and Ultramagnus to be honest. They need a Rodimus to fight with their Galvy. Mp09 will just fall apart.

I really hope they do a proper Hot Rod though, like the fanmod to the prototype images. Youthful face, adjusted arms/hands size and spoiler placement.
