No, they just said it would lead into "what's next" after "season two" of the Hasbro books (they consider post-Revolution season one, and post-First Strike season two).

I bet Spike has his ever-reliable bottles of detergent ready. The Planet Eater stands no chance.

Yeah, well... No. You be like whatever it suits you, I'll be more like *Yawn* Unicron's coming and nothing will be the same! *Yawn*

The mandatory Unicron's coming got pretty stale and hardly anything surprising for this franchise.

Unless they're going to use it to reboot the entire continuity in the wake of declining sales... It no longer carries any sense of threat or urgency.

But of course rebooting the continuity is also a very good jumping off point for readers.

About the last time he was original was making him the core of Earth in TFP or the Unicron Trilogy. But it looks like IDW is going the planet-sized monstrosity route (else this promo art is not making much sense) and at this point it doesn't matter if he's a Sunbow or cosmic god style because effectively there was little difference in how it was played outside of his origin story.

Yes, he was hinted in the Guiding Hand story in the MTME annual but it always worked the best as a vague religious background.

IDW played this universal cosmic threat card twice, with the Dead Universe matrix and D-Void. Now it'll be a third one, but this time it looks like they're going for another disrupting big event.

I'm about as excited fort his kind of things as I am when Marvel or DC are doing the same waving their Infinity Gauntlet/Cosmic Cube/Anti-life Equation... Again and again. Making a damn good job at not letting their readers to just enjoy their ongoings.

Ahhh: "Conceived as a reaction to his opposite..." Nice. Guess that would make Unicron older than Primus.

The problem is, I don't really want them to confirm the existence of Primus. I'd rather leave him ambiguous and mythological; I like all the conflicting religious/philosophical beliefs that have been shown in Cybertronian culture. I don't want one of them to be proven to be "the right one."

When Unicron is introduced, I hope it is not in a way that confirms or denies the existence of Primus. One of the interesting things about the IDW universe that sets it apart from the others is that the origin of the Transformers is unknown. It's a shame that I can't just be excited for Unicron and instead am a bit cautious about this.

And Thundercracker's Starscream movie sounds great.

Writers writing stories about characters wanting to be writers has not been a thing with Transformers since the franchise began. But thanks for playing.

Meh, I'll see how it goes Transformers-wise

I figure MASK and GI Joe will fight weaker heralds/reborn creations of Unicron. Like any of the weaker Marvel characters fight in the Infinity War crossovers. But I can't see MASK/Action Man/GI Joe bringing anything positive to this crossover.

So much for GI Joe being the "Crown Jewel of the Hasbro Universe". This looks terrible.

Watch, Unicron will resurrect Galvatron to be his herald. Maybe Nova Prime, too.

I kinda want Matt Trakker to kill Unicron now. Just so I can sit back and laugh.

but they've had human girlfriends...put on giant rubber masks and acted in movies...they've put on giant trench coats and acted like human detectives...they've adopted human children..they've played video games in human arcades...they've adopted our accents and slang terms....they've surfed...they've had birthday parties...they've been fans of our music....and most of that is just G1 continuity...

i mean do i really need to keep going here? ONE instance of a transformer adopting a human trait like being a screen writer for a human sitcom doesn't negate all the other human characteristics they've had for 30 something years.

and actually no i'm going to kinda refute this right away...wasn't skybyte a poet? specifically writing in a human style of poetry? i may not be up on all my transformers backstory but i'm gonna hazard a guess thundercracker isn't the first writer or even actor in transformer history either...he may be the first to attempt a sitcom but i doubt he's the only writer. actually i think crosscut's idw bio has him as a former playwright....so no TC wasn't even the first to do this....

    now thank YOU for playing...

You bring up an interesting point there. Perhaps the Autobots and/or Lost Light crew will go on a (Matrix) quest to reconstitute the relic? Or perhaps Cyberutopia itself will be the key to killing Unicron? (or maybe it IS Unicron)

Everyone seems to have glanced over the fact that MASK and Gi Joe will be fighting the Army Ants

this has shite and disaster written all over it.

Here's the thing: aliens ARE humans... metaphorically anyways. Science fiction has always featured alien characters that represent basic human emotions or traits, or stand in for human ideas. Just look at Star Trek, where almost every recurring alien race can be boiled down to a single human trait (Ferengis are greedy, Vulcans are logical, Klingons are honorable).

I think you mean "fun" and "awesome" written all over it.

I'm down for this and D.O.C and Buster fighting Unicron.

I'm willing to bet that IDW writers are going to use the Army Ants internal war as a thought-provoking parable to the war-torn nature of both human and Cybertronian societies. This has all the makings of the best and deeper part of the incoming stories.

You say that now, but wait until they reveal that thanks to the Micronauts, Unicron is the size of a golf ball.

Army Ants: War is Hell. It will be lauded as the spiritual successor to Last Stand and Sins of the Wreckers.
