I thought that if they were to make a new Transformers series, they should make Prowl and Shockwave arch-enemies. It makes sense, they are both driven by logic, so they can make Shockwave like Prowl if Prowl didn't have the humanity to keep his logic in check.
Perhaps a non-jerkish version of Prowl seeing Shockwave as someone he could easily become? Works for me.
I'd prefer Prowl portrayed similar to Star Trek Data. Important thing to me about Prowl is NOT making him a prick. I wrote a bit of fanfic years ago and I remember two scenes where an Autobot and then Megatron referred to Prowl as the "Autobot answer to Shockwave." Obviously it's out of context here but at the time that both an Autobot and Decepticon thought that about him was meant to be funny.
The way they apply their logic though is what makes them vastly dissimilar. Shockwave is a manipulative,scheming scientist, while Prowl is a Strategic,investigative puzzle solver. Shockwave can be a tottal cold hearted bastard, while Prowl is an annoying Prick. IMHO they dont qualify that much as rivals. Not the least to compare their power levels, so to speak.
I only recently got into the comic books, but I was surprised how much of a, um, posterior, Prowl is in them. He makes Shockwave seem crasimatic! But yeah, I would watch/read that, though I wouldn't want Prowl as a Data type character. I'd prefer to see him devoted to logic, but, on the other hand, trying to keep in mind that it is not always the ultimate answer, and trying to be considerate. So if we look at it from a Star Trek perspective, maybe a bit more like Spock? BTW: Isn't flipping tables highly illogical?
I think what makes Prowl not Shockwave is that he still has emotions. Shockwave is more like Data, only with a skewed sense of morality. And, yeah, I never really understood why Prowl has to come off like a jerk. That being said, did War Within do something with Prowl/Shockwave? I seem to remember Prowl respecting Shockwave's observational abilities at some point. Didn't it say Shockwave came up with the expression "Til all are one" and then Prowl adopted it? My memory is foggy, but I am sure someone will be more than happy to correct it.

The only reason Prowl doesn't look like Shockwave is because if he had undergone Empurata, he wouldn't have a face for people to punch in.
