Does he live in New York? If I'm not mistaken, he lives on the west coast in the LA pool. RBA would be recruiting from the New York talent pool, and I don't think they would pay for Bailey to fly to New York everytime he would need to record lines.
Oh, NYAV should do the voice direction! That would be awesome!

First of all, there's a big difference between criticism and what you're doing. Criticism isn't about insulting people and calling them terrible impersonators. It's about giving them helpful feedback for how they could do better. If you aren't being helpful then it's not constructive. Also you should know there is a rule against insulting other members of the forums here. Even if he's not watching this thread to see the crap you're saying about him you're still breaking that rule.

Secondly, no one is a perfect impersonator. There's no such thing. Everyone's voice is different, while some may be similar no one can ever perfectly match another person's voice. They can get close enough so most people won't notice the difference but that's about it. And for someone who claims to have respect for Peter Cullen you sure brushed his praise of Jon Baily pretty freaking quick.

Finally Gary Chalk is also just a Peter Cullen impersonator. So's the RID1 guy. The only one who really did his own thing is David Kaye in Animated. He actually auditioned for Optimus before in Beast Wars but they passed him over for a guy who sounded more like the original Optimus.

From what I can tell this isn't critisim, this is just flaming. I don't know what your issue with Jon is. I've had some disagreements with him in the past myself but I've never taken it this far and neither has he. You called him a cry baby, I seriously doubt that, I just can't picture him getting that upset over something some random troll said.

Actually no. It's a little more complicated than that. And there's a big difference between taking the jobs of strikers and taking the jobs of other actors a studio can't even afford to pay.

For one thing actors are generally pretty understanding and supportive of each other when it comes to things like this. Like I said before even though the original voice cast would probably prefer to stay on, they can't. The studio can't afford them and they might agree to work for less money but SAG does not allow their actors to take non union jobs.

Some will anyway and just work under an alias so the union doesn't find out about it. I've known some who did that of course I can't say who because they could get into deep shit if anyone found out.

Plus with as hard as it is to find work in this buisness no one is going to hold a grudge against another actor for taking their job. Hell I was wrongfully fired from a job and could have sued the company but I choose not to because my disagreement with one director could have easily cost the jobs of many other people. Like him or not people still need those jobs cause they don't come very often and the pay is lousy.

And this is all just because I never got credit for my part in "Dial M for Murder" I can understand it was a mistake and it was too late to add me into the program but they could have at least put me on the web site. That's all I wanted and instead I got a phone call that I was no longer welcomed to come back to that theater. I thought about sueing but then I looked threw the hundreds of FaceBook contacts I've gathered from my years there and started to realize how many lives it would effect just because of a stupid disagreement with one person.

Even Scott McNeil only jokingly complains about Tom Kenny stealing his characters. Also forgot the guy's name who played Scott's part in Brotherhood but that's really how most actors are. At best we're only mildly annoyed at a studio's decision but we don't really hold that against other actors who end up replacing us. Hell a few of my friends are actors who beat me for roles I auditioned for. Yeah during auditions they're compition but after that no one cares anymore.

Jon I think has four kids. How's he going to support his family if he turns down work just because a studio can't afford Peter Cullen? Even the movie trailer voice is a job he took from another actor. I don't think that guy is even around anymore cause he was old. If he can make money as an impersonator then why shouldn't he? Peter likes him and if the man himself doesn't have an issue with Jon then you shouldn't either.

They can't afford to pay them because they're union.

I'm not mad they're hiring someone to do a Peter Cullen impersonation, I'm mad they're hiring a non-union worker to impersonate a union worker.

Good on Cullen if he's cool with it. But at the same time I don't have to worry about burning bridges with the industry or fandom that helps me maintain my value as a worker.

That's kinda the point. If they could afford to keep the union actors they would. I'd be more upset if it was the other way around. Like replacing actors with big name stars which pretty much is what happened in the movies when Hugo Waving got hired to replace Frank Welker. Though Frank did get to voice other characters for a while they didn't want him as Megatron. Can't remember exactly how long that lasted but I know at least the first movie was not Frank. He did voice Megatron in the video games based on the movies but Bay refused to cast him for a long time claiming he wasn't scarry enough to fit the movie design. To be honest we're lucky we even got Peter Cullen in the movies cause I think Bay wanted to replace him too.

Anyway I hate when they replace actors no matter who it is. They always think the audience won't notice but they always do. But you can't hold it against the replacement for the studio's decision. They're just people doing what they can to make a living. Especially when they're non union and get paid shit. If you want to complain about someone, complain about the big name stars who make six figures per movie and don't need to take roles from lesser known actors.

Studios can't replace union workers if there weren't scabs willing to take the work.

You mean the union actors who have paid their dues and built a name for themselves? Nah.

Look on the bright side. Now that they aren't having to pay Peter Cullen, maybe they can spend the money on story and plot. Just ignore the fat kid with asthma hyperventilating in the sound booth attempting to do a Cullen impression.

I hate to say this, I really do BUT.......Mr.Cullen is in his 80's. Eventually, we're all going to have to get used to someone else voicing the iconic Optimus Prime. Same goes for Mr. Welker.

Clearly, for those of us who grew up with these two voicing the iconic factions leaders, it's not a change any of us are looking forward to.
Personally, I'm hoping they find 2 worthy successors and stick with them for as long as they did with Peter and Frank. :)

Since this show skews much younger, Hasbro seems to be looking at this as a 2nd tier type show to their Transformers brand. I would hope they cast in LA for the series after RID.

They already did. I think Kaye would come back as Megatron, but I don't know if Chalk would still be interested.

So let me get this straight. You would rather have a big name star who makes six figures per movie taking the role of a lesser known actor when they have plenty of other parts they could take and don't need the work then for a non-union actor who has to work a second job just to get by between jobs who has to take any job he can get because we make next to nothing replace another actor?

Sure he's paid his dues and made a name for himself but how exactly do you think he did that? Every big name actor was at one point a non-union actor barely getting by. Everyone at some point in their career has been a scab as you call them. How else do you expect a nobody to find work?

You can't even join a union unless you've had prior experience working non-union first. You have to work a certain number of gigs prior to joining Actors Equity or SAG. Without that experience you can't make a name for yourself. When you're non-union you really don't have a choice, you have to take whatever jobs you can get or you can't be in this buisness. Big name stars, they do have a choice. They can turn down any role they don't like for any reason.

No one knows who the hell I am. If I could get a job replacing Frank, Scott, or any other actor, I have to take it. I can not afford to turn down a role. If I turn down one part I may never work again because I'm just going to be known as the guy who turns down jobs. It makes me look lazy and no one will want to work with me. Hugo Waving, he could of turned down the Megatron role. He doesn't need the work, he doesn't need the movie. As I recall there were two other movies he did the same year. Frank Welker is union but he still doesn't make that much compared to a movie star like Hugo Waving. The dude is a voice actor for a bunch of children's shows. TV actors are generally cheaper than movie actors which is why you rarely ever see them on TV. It's why Cliff jumper was killed off so quickly in Prime and replaced with another actor. They could only afford to pay Dwayne Johnson for one episode. It's also why every star from the 86 movie had to be recast for season 3. Well that and because Orson Wells died before the movie even hit theaters. But even if he was alive they would of had to recast him anyway. The movie actually had a budget to pay those actors and they were mostly brought in to attract a bigger audience who isn't going to come into the theater to hear Frank Walker's voice. They're going to come for Leonard Nimoy.

Nimoy probably made the same amount Welker did when he first started on Star Trek but when they started making the movies alot of the actors got pay raises along with that movie budget. It's possible that after voicing Optimus Prime for six movies including the cartoon, that Peter Cullen may have become more well known outside of just a bunch of children's cartoons. He's technically been playing Optimus Prime longer than Frank Welker has been Megatron even though they started at the same time Prime's been played by the same guy more often.

Plus as much as you might hate sound allies they've probably helped him. Cause Prime's voice, even when it's not Cullen has become iconic as they're mostly all pretty similar to Cullen's original portrayal. Megatron on the other hand oddly enough even when it is Welker he still doesn't sound anything like the G1 version. Megatron's original voice, sorry to say but I've never really liked it. However Frank as Galvatron, movie Megatron, and Prime Megatron all sound completely different despite being voiced by the same person. And I actually prefer any of them over the original voice. Anyway Megatron's voice isn't as iconic when it's constantly changing even with the same actor.

I actually agree that G1 Megatron's voice would not have fit with the movie design. But it's Frank Welker, he's voiced more TF's than any other actor, that G1 Megatron is not the only voice he can do. If you want him to sound more like Movie Megatron, just give him some direction and he can do that too. The guy ranges from the high pitched annoying G1 Wheelie to the deep menacing sounds like he's been smoking two packs a day for 40 years Dr. Claw. The only reason to replace him is because no one knows the name behind all the voices he does.

Some people who only know the movies probably think that they replaced Hugo Waving with a Scab even though Frank actually is the original.

And now you're calling me a troll. Funny how the person claiming someone is being insulting then turns around and does the same. Also, I didn't say he was a crybaby, I said he came close and I never said he was terrible. That was the first guy. Even if I did, Jon's a Primus-damned professional, something he wouldn't stop reminding everyone in that thread of his. As such, I have every right to form whatever opinion I want on the dude's work. If I did think it's terrible, if anyone else thinks it's terrible, that's my right and their right and nobody has to justify it. Stop trying to turn this into some kind of personal attack. I don't know him. However, I have every right to comment on his work and his professionalism (or lack thereof, especially when it comes his dealing with people having negative opinions of his work). You ask what my issue with Jon is, I've already told you. He doesn't sound like Peter Cullen. It's that simple. I don't need to have some sort of deep hatred towards him to say that, because he's a profession and I'm just giving my opinion on his work.

As for Garry Chalk, I don't know what he was going for when auditioning and I don't know why the role was given to him, all I know is that he sounds very, very distinct from Peter Cullen, while still fitting Optimus. If he was trying to impersonate Cullen, then he did a horrendous job, but he sounds so little like him that it doesn't sound like he's trying to sound like him and that ended up being for the better. I would like to know where you got that info from and if I can find an exact quote, as I suspect you might be exaggerating things. Just because they wanted someone in a similar vein to the original Optimus, doesn't mean they were wishing for someone who sounded just like him.

Troll isn't an insult, it's internet slang for someone who is insulting, flaming, starting arguments, or otherwise being rude online. That's like saying the word bully is an insult which is basically the same thing but without the internet. It's basically a short way of describing your behavior. You don't like it, then don't act like one. It's that simple. Plus you ever hear of treating others the way you want to be treated or an eye for an eye. Yeah it can be hypocritical but you deserve it for being a troll. There are a lot worse things I could call you but I won't.

As for your opinion. Again there's a huge difference between constructive critism and just being a jerk. If I don't like someone's work I don't go around saying you suck. I tell them why I don't like it. Even Michael Bay gets more respect than you've shown towards Jon. And Michael Bay is never going to see any of the crap we say about him anyway so it really doesn't matter if our critisim is constructive or not. You talk about professionalism. Well professionally speaking if you don't have anything constructive to say then keep your opinions to yourself. You're entitled to your opinions but that doesn't mean you have to share them. If you can't be constructive that makes it a personal attack. Without constructive critisum it's just insulting for the sake of making someone feel like shit. If you don't have anything personal against him then why the hell would even say anything like that towards him?

At least when I say I don't like G1 Megatron it doesn't mean anything because Frank Welker isn't around to hear it. Even if I said something constructive with it won't make a difference, he's never going to read this. Though if I was to talk directly to him I wouldn't say his Megatron sounds terrible. I'd tell him he sounded like he constantly had larangitus and then complimenting him for doing better with other iterations of the character. That's how you talk to someone professionally, not "you suck" not "you're terrible" you say "I don't like this because" whatever your reason is and then follow it with something they can actually use like helpful advice or a compliment. You don't need to be a jerk about it.

As I said before it is impossible to find another actor who sounds exactly like Peter Cullen. Finding someone in the same vein as you put it is really the best you can hope for. Also Gary Chalk did voice G1 Optimus as well though it was a fake hologram of Optimus that was actually being controlled by Megatron but they still got Gary Chalk to voice him... he also oddly did G1 Megatron's voice on the Golden disk recording though I think his voice was distorted in both instances. I know they never got any of the real G1 voice cast to reprise their roles. Stars cream was done by the same guy who voices Terrorsaur which kinda fits since the characters and there voices were so similar anyway. Though they technically also could of had Scott do it since he apperently took over on GI Joe after the original voice actor died. Though Scott did say that doing that voice hurt his throat so he probably shouldn't be doing it if he has to strain himself that much to pull it off.

I forget the GI Joe character but it's the same bloody voice as Stars cream, literally they're the same actor and he plays both characters the exact same way. Chris Lotta I think was his name or was that Movie Stars cream? It's hard to remember all these names without looking them up.

We aren't professionals. We're consumers who have the right to give our opinion on a product. Not everyone can properly articulate why they don't like something. I find voices extremely difficult to describe but as a consumer, I still have every right to voice my opinion, as does anyone else, because we're the ones using the product. Without the consumer, the product serves no purpose. To tell you the truth, I wouldn't say he's terrible to his face and I didn't when he made his thread about it, but nobody should have to tiptoe around the whole forum because a fully grown man might not like hearing people say bad things about the professional work he gets paid for. If he wants this line of work, he needs to grow thicker skin, because the constructive criticism I offer is that the people making TF shows should simply not hire Jon Baily to voice Optimus Prime. I don't have any constructive advice to Jon, himself. All I know is that I don't like him as an official Optimus Prime. Not as a recurring role, rather than the cameos and one-off you mentioned from BW. That's my opinion and I, along with anyone who shares it, has the right to voice it. It's not trolling, it's feedback. Not towards Jon but to the people making the show and everyone, everyone who makes use of a product has the right to voice their opinion on it. Besides, this thread isn't about Jon, it's about an entire upcoming show and with that in mind, this is the last I'm going to say on the subject.

I loved Chalk's Primal. So much that it's literally the only thing I can think of anytime I see or hear him on another show.

But yeah, if he was going for Cullen's Prime... swing and a miss.

You make a good point about some things like the fact you're not professionals. However earlier you were critising his professionalism. Isn't that kind of hypocritical?

You're also right that you should be able to voice your opinion without worrying about what Jon thinks. However you said yourself that you can't properly voice exactly why you don't like his Otimus Prime. Because of that your opinions just come off as being rude to another member of the boards. It's been a while sense I've read the rules here but I don't recall seeing any exceptions about it being OK to be rude to other board members just because they also happen to be professional voice actors. And you can voice your opinions without being rude so they shouldn't have to change the rules just because you don't know how to voice your opinions in a professional manner.

I don't think it matters that he's a professional getting paid to voice Optimus Prime. He's still a member of these forums and has every right to be treated with the same respect as every other member here.

As for growing a thicker skin. I've seen how he deals with trolls on his YouTube channel. You are exadgerating the whole crybaby thing. He might get upset as anyone would but he gets over it pretty damn quick. Plus as I said before Jon and I don't even always agree with each other. But I've never seen get anywhere near as upset as you make it sound. What you think that just because he's an adult and a professional that he shouldn't be able to react at all? He's not a robot, he's a person with just as much right to voice his opinions as you. For someone so adimate about being able to voice your opinion you sure seem to hate when anyone else voices a conflicting opinion.

Non-union actors from NYC? So does this mean the cast will feature some old 4Kids actors?
