Story-wise, for G1 to beast wars at least, it is the pre-cursor technology that led to the great downgrade that made the Maximals and Predacons smaller than autobots and decepticons. So doing them as titan masters actually makes sense and pays homage to their roots in how Maximals/Predacons came to exist. They'd actually be to scale too.

Huh, I never thought about it that way.

I mean it's obvious that the Pretender technology is the predecessor of the abilities the Maximals and Predacons have when it comes to mimicking organic life, but Headmasters being the ones whose abilities helped them achieve their smaller bodies after the war ended? That's kinda clever actually.

Still, I don’t know if I would buy BW Headmasters. I guess it depends on how they look. I think the Headmaster ability would clash too much with the organic beast modes though. They don’t have cockpits, and putting the Headmasters inside their mouths like Gnaw or give them all some kind of saddle would be too irritating IMO.

That leaves us with mechanic beast modes like the Decepticon Headmasters or vehicle forms of BW characters ala "Dawn of Future’s Past" and I’m not a huge fan of either. Which is too bad since the redesigns of Primal and Megatron for this mobile game seem like they’re more robotic than organic and I’m afraid this is the exact style Hasbro will use for BW characters in the upcoming line.

The game ones are nods of previously made toys during the AEC trilogy. So those have already been made. Doubt hasbro would re-do those anytime soon if ever. They weren't exactly strong sellers.

No need for full bodies for them. TM packs with the weapon accessory is enough. Though i'd take a Tigerhawk full figure any day. Using the spark chamber as the cockpit area works for certain era BW figures like Transmetals and Transmetal 2. Though they could also do the attached weapon as an animal saddle for the TM too. For TigerHawk I'd definitely want the spark chamber as where the TM sits in beast mode. The saddle method also evokes elements of the animal based pretender shells in how they had battle armor and weapons. So that gives us some potential for remolds there at least with the cat based pretender for the cat based Maximals. Potentially similar for Oilslick and Primal too.

Yeah, BW was great in that aspect of combining the lore from the various eras of toys to make something new. It was a combination of pretender tech and PM/HM tech. So they went smaller and then had the organic outer shells when needed because of the environmental effects of various planets. But the tech was more integrated into their transformation cogs and alt-mode scanning instead of needing the shell. Granted, based on the show at least, the organic scans had to be done using an outside scanner. In most instances it was the escape pods, but the main ship crews used their respective ships to help with that. So prior to the crash landing, they were vehicles or potentially even HMs/PMs as far as we know. The show never really covered their pre-crash landing forms. All we know for certain is that they were near human sized bodies because it consumed far less energon to maintain all working systems at optimal condition. The conventions tried to expand on that, but many of the convention figures approached the crew as alt-modes that were much larger than the characters actually were. They'd be closer to Titan Master size, head masters, or Target masters, or Power Masters. So I always personally leaned on the crews as evolutions of characters like Hi-Q and Spike's Cerebros head armor. At least on their basis of the downgrade in size.

Personally, I'd kinda prefer if they did approach them as vehicles instead of organic or TM animals. Most of them at least. Tigerhawk needs the TM2 body. That one doesn't exist without it. The others though, it'd be cool to see them in vehicle modes with TM driver seats as kind of their precursor to the Axalon exploration ship. Kind of like they left the car at home while flying on a plane. Err, spaceship. Though others like Black Arachnia they could do as a more spiderized approach. She's kind of like a descendent of Airachnid anyway. So they could also do a spider helicopter type for her which gives them two molds between those two.

The predacons could have been the various masters of different decepticon origins though like the Seacons, Horrorcons, monsterscons, pretender dinos, etc. So who knows over there. Dinobot I like to think was a mecha Raptor even before becoming an organic one though. He really feels like a descendent of Grimlock in many ways. If not, his TM2 body would be perfect with putting the TM driver seat in the head. And if not that one, his mecha raptor mode would probably have a driver seat on the back like the original dinobots had anyway. So that one can slide some for homage reasons. The rest may prove more difficult if they go full organic modes, and the animal modes before that except for a select few, seem rather out of place considering the majority of the animals were smaller than humans, and Titan Masters are about human sized, which would throw the scale completely out of proportion. It'd make those Titan Masters about micronaut sized. Okay maybe a little bigger than that, but still tiny. They'd be Titan masters of titan masters sized more or less.

If hasbro did decide to go Organic beast modes though, they could do what Twinferno and Mindwipe did to hide the TM inside without having visible outside clutter.

I'd buy it. It'd be a pretty cool convention nod. And the obligatory Tigatron repaint too.

I remember asking FunPub about a set like that:
TM2 Cheetor (Remolded cheeta head to sabretooth) as Catilla
TM2 Jawbreaker as Carnivac. (Frostbite works pretty well)
Polarclaw as Chainclaw (although Survive makes a good stand-in)
    Razorbeast as Snarler

    Never got a response. :(

I really hope the "Optimus Primal" TM is the e-hobby Optimal Optimus repaint of Apeface. I've really wanted it ever since it was announced, but wasn't interested in Convobat.

I can't help but think the Optimus Primal head is going to be the 'optional head' shown in this design sheet.

True but not all of Combiner Wars were Combiners. All the leaders and a good chunk of Legends weren't.

I like most of the designs but the detachable head is another accessory to keep track of. Don't care for it on characters that aren't typically headmasters.

Leaders and Legends don't fit into the Voyager torso + four Deluxe limbs set up they had for Combiner Wars. But everybody Deluxe and larger can have a detachable head. Although Hasbro should have focused on completing all the original Headmasters, the fact is they were able to do more molds and more repaints for Titans Return than there were Headmasters in 1987 and 1988. They weren't going to end the line prematurely just because they ran out of characters to do.

Yeah. That's a new thing Hasbro is doing for Europe since the beginning of 2017. Each new toy finally has its own individualized EAN barcode as opposed to an assortment-wide barcode, and toys are apparently all offered to online retailers as solid cases instead of waves (which make more sense at brick and mortar retail).

Oooo, interesting, ta. I know we'd been charting the occasional solid case that reached toy stores here but didn't know they started doing it for everything.

Any way of seeing if they still think they're getting these or not?

It was the Micromaster upgrade that made everyone smaller and more fuel efficent. The headmasters in the US(and thus BW) were just suits.

It's started with anything Combiner Force, and wave 3 of all the major Titans Return price points. The Last Knight also does it.

Nope, I'm looking these up from home using an external service, so I have no way of knowing the actual status of these listings.

Maybe we'll know more once the Ramhorn listing gets updated with photos.
