I just can't decide if I like this guy. I've started leaning towards IDW designs more and more but this dude doesn't really look like his comic book counterpart.

Yeah, I feel ya...I've been looking for a Cyclonus to replace my BIS one, and I'm still waiting. This guy doesn't seem to fit in anywhere to me. If the wings would have lined up a little more like the toon, I probably would've bit...

I really like mine. He's a fine figure and will hold me over until another Cyclonus comes out. Sadly I broke one of the horns on the idw style head. Can't get the peg out of the hole

I have same issue with Boreas.

He is looking very close to IDW, but not enough for me. But if he has shade of purple like on photos from first post of this thread, I will take him. I hope for reissue with better color.

 

The backpack bothers me visually. I emphasize bothers "me" in case it's confused with everyone, as it's clear there are fans of this figure.

I'm a huge MTMTE fan and have been wanting a Cyclonus as identical to the source material as possible. This just isn't it for me. The wings on the back that iconically come up behind the shoulders are to Cyclonus what they are to Rodimus' spoiler and Starscream's wings as far as aesthetic.

Not sure if it would still look like IDW Cyclonus even if that was there, beyond the face and horns.

 

So I got this toy a while ago and I was hesitate to write down my thoughts right after I got him because I thought he might grow on me. However after Lazyaza asked in the Turben thread what I thought was wrong with him I decided to write down a paragraph or two about Boreas.

As a disclaimer I have one of every mold MMC produced so I think I know what this company is (was) capable of and I have a sweet spot for them because after FansProject they where one of the first companies that emerged out of the garage kit scene. So I always think of them as a by fans for fans driven endeavor and looked fondly at all their toys even if they had issues.

However Boreas is the worst toy I bought from MMC and easily a prime contender for worst toy if 2017. I'm glad I don't own Jaegertron or Anubis because if they are worse than Boreas I think I would have lost my faith in MMC producing quality toys. Nothing on Boreas works correctly. The articulation is strangely limited with legs that can't be straight or a head that is restricted to look left or right even if it is on a ball joint. The sculpt is not good with the head being too flat and due to the plastic used the whole figure looks not sharply molded like the other released but chubby and greasy in hand (hard to describe). The transformation doesn't work because it doesn't beg together well and looks rather uninspired (like a $10 deluxe Transformer) and not even the color scheme they picked looks as good as it could.

While previous releases had similar issues like Boreas the big plus that every MMC mold had up to this point was that the toy felt sturdy, hefty and high quality. Like a toy meant for adults.Even the KM Commander and Cyclops felt that way given the experience MMC had at the time. Warper is still one of my most liked toys in my collection.

Sorry to say that but Boreas feels nothing like this and I hope this has with how he was produced because I want to believe that this has to do with the factory that manufactured the toy.

First of all I think the major issues is the shiny plastic because it makes the toy feel less premium and swallows sharp details but there are more significant problems.

Let's go from not so bad to worse:

Transforming the toy feels like ripping the out wings apart:


Seriously If I try to peg the wings together it feels like the larger section is breaking apart because a giant stress mark appears.

Combined with the other issues this makes Boreas feel like a mess. Luckily I got Calidus shortly after him because he feels like a way better toy even if he has some issues.

This mold should have been retired and written off as a loss after Jaegertron which like Lazyaza, an employee of MMC, said is far worse than this one. Some valuable lessons could have been learned from this failure about what kind of company MMC wants to be. I guess MMC took the wrong ones since they used if for two more releases.

Honestly I'm the one to blame because I was stupid enough to buy Boreas after I saw some less than stellar reviews on him, Jaegertron and Anubis but I thought it would still feel like the other Reformatted toys once I have him in hand.

It seems like I have to readjust my evaluation of MMC for future releases.

 

I got this guy today, and I really like him. However, I think I got the strangest QC issue I've had so far. You see, he's missing the hole for the peg on his left wing. Did anybody else have this issue?
Pic 1 shows the tab not tabbing in. Pic 2 shows the place where the hole should be. Pic 3 shows the right wing with the peg.

 

I had exactly the same problem with jaegertron. Sent mmc a photo and they sent me a new part.
Decent customer service but terrible mould, plastics and qc.

 

I bought one... He's OK not great but OK.

He's a bit traumatic to transform as the wings are really hard to unpeg (the key tabs in the wings I mean)
The first thing I thought when I opened him - was 'Boy is he light' ! followed by 'Why doesn't he have a gun' ?
The - "what's wrong with hiis neck" then I notice one of his fingers was bent out of shape (it bent back fine and didn't even leave a stress mark - but that wasn't fun) I don't much care for his inability to stand straight or that both his heads are best described as "funny looking".

But multiple versions of Cyclonus is something I do tend to collect so if I can put up with Tempest I can put up with this.
I'd not say run out and buy him but if you like other MMC toys and you see him cheap as I said he's 'OK'.

But please no more Key tabs those things are the reason I can never Transform Giant.

I forgot to mention that his hands up and down wrist pivot is pretty loose anything other than his sword in his hand and he just flops it down so it's pointing at the ground.... so Lots of floor polish will be needed there I think.

 

He's got his issues, but I wouldn't say any of them are deal breakers. He's fun to mess around with, fun to pose, and I love how he looks. I think I actually prefer him how he is than if he were comic book accurate.

 

I decided to panel line this figure. Its still a work in progress, quite a bit more to do. Many areas need thinning out where it got too thick.

 

What's with the surplus of MMC repaint variants and no MTMTE color-accurate version of this guy?

 

I know right?! I suspect an asterisk version but I hope it's at retail and not convention exclusive, now that would suck.

 

And the mtmte face with two horns, he wasn't just one horn Howard you know

 

So I recently picked this guy up during a recent Kapow sale. I love the design and swapped the faces tongue hi two horns...and then his waist snapped in half less than 24 hours after I got him. I got a replacement but it did take the shine off him.

1) I wish he was even just a couple of shades shades darket. He's too light.

2) The plastic feels very cheap from what is a £90 toy. I got him for £55 and even then he feels a bit cheap.

3) The transformation is fun and I like the alt mode but I suspect this is where the problem with the waist originates. If you transform him properly and tab the feet in to where they go, it sees to pull the waist away from the torso. So safest way is to mistranform him which is...annoying. I also think the ways the legs transform is hinder by the very stiff knees. If you want it exactly how it should be they seem to fight against thert supposed "proper" position.

That not mode and posing ability though are what save the figure for me though. It looks great but is definitely hampered in the engineering.

 

almost looking like cyclonus.... a great oportunity got lost here, because of repaint-money grab tactics, and they did it with whirl too .... just sad  

 

What happened here?! Oh well ...guess I'll wait for FT Cyclonus. Already have the Maketoys IDW upgrade kit . Like others said... lost opportunity.
