That's not even near the league of the dc and marvel animation movies.

I think this is the only way to go, to get something with a satisfying story.

I've given up all hope on the movies, even if they do reboot them.

I hope so. I mean they are trying with the online stuff but really it comes down to budget and frankly it does not look like they really want to commit.

I think its a great example of how they should NOT do it, if that's the same thing.

If this would done, it'd probably be in the format of movie-length specials of whatever animated show was running alongside it (i.e. Robots In Disguise).

My knowledge of DC stuff is extremely limited, but even I heard that their animated version of 'The Killing Joke' was pretty poorly received. 'Target:2006' and LSOTW are such sacred cows amongst fandom that any adaptation would likely be seen as a poor relation.

It would be like someone doing a cover version of Bohemian Rhapsody - it's like, what's the point, when the version we already have is perfect enough?

I just wish they made more shows equivalent to TF Prime- because it wasn't perfect, but it was visually stunning, and heck: Story was good. I've re-watched TF Prime so many times I've lost count- they did an amazing job on it.

I'd prefer they take whatever resources and power they'd consider putting into a movie, and channel it into a TF Prime-level show- because I haven't been able to watch anything since Prime- the animation sucks, and the character designs don't translate well into action figures.

We need TF Prime-level stuff again.

I'm not sure I agree with this. The Killing Joke is one of the greatest Batman (short) stories ever written, if not one of the greatest single comics ever written, by the greatest comics writer of all time (and drawn by one of the finest artists ever). Its animated adaptation added a very large amount of new (that is, not in the original comic) story material because the original comic is pretty brief.

I can't think of any Transformers comics that hold such rarified status as The Killing Joke. Even the absolute best Transformers comics are just good when judged against all other works in the medium. I guess maybe The War Within is potentially the "objectively best" comic book created for Transformers, and it's not exactly universally loved (is it?) and it doesn't hold a candle to Watchmen or The Dark Knight Returns or Sandman or anything.

I'd go so far as to say that something like Target: 2006 could really benefit from an animated adaptation. It would have much better artwork and writing, in all likelihood. ...That is, if actually talented people worked on it. If the folks who did the Combiner Wars "animated series" did these proposed animated movies, then ugh. Yuck. But do you remember G.I. Joe Resolute? Anime-level artwork and a script by Warren freakin' Ellis. Now if Transformers got animated adaptations of previous comic series like that? Hell to the yeah!

It boggles my mind why Hasbro has not done this yet. There is a market for direct-to-video animated movies, and Transformers would make a killing.

I also made a thread once and I still say yes to every new question asked by others. I wonder how many threads we have of this already.

I would really like it if they tried. Since paramount just dropped $240 million on production, not including marketing, on TLK, I believe Hasbro can afford to do an animated full length feature. JUST PLEASE DO IT RIGHT!
A full length feature on marvel issues 17 & 18 can be a good story to try.

    It's an interesting thought experiment.

What comics stories do you think would be well-suited to getting an animated film adaptation?

I'd be quite pleased to see an animated direct-to-video adaptation of The War Within.
