I really wish this was coming with new shoulder cannons and hand guns for Super mode as well. I feel like the ones that come with it are still a little dinky.

 

You can find the original rifles on eBay pretty cheaply, and only require a little bit of plastic cutting to make fit. The shoulder guns from the original are too big though, the stock ones on this one are fine.

 

I always wanted these... But IIRC they were pretty expensive for such small figures... Even by 3ed party standards. Like 20$ per weapon...

 

Actually, I have to say that the G1 shoulder cannons look great on his shoulders, and not particularly overly large looking, especially given that he's basically about the same size as the original figure. I have my extra set on my Ginrai figure and the smaller factory ones on his legs, and they look great along with the G1 hand cannons (lightly modified to fit properly).

They are noticeably larger, for sure, but not nearly as obvious as the oversized G1 PMOP head, lol.

At any rate, Master Jinrai is going to look quite nice once inserted into the chest, and those bigger guns will only add to the effect. (I'm heavily considering chroming certain areas of Jinrai to further add to his look...)

 

The toys are more or less the same size, but they're proportioned pretty differently. That's why they look too big on this one.

 

The G1 has a blockier torso and legs, and an excessively oversized head, than the modern version, but the arms of the modern figure are bigger than the G1...aside from that, same basic size. I have the bigger G1 guns on mine and I think they look really good and makes him more fearsome than the tiny factory guns. Also, if anyone adds the Takara Godbomber Armor to him the bigger guns will quickly become more proportionate on the bigger bot mode...

Basically, it comes down to personal preference and aesthetic values of each individual. So while you may not agree that they look good, or aren't proportionate, or otherwise "fitting", for whatever reason, that's okay...but I happen to think that he looks better with the bigger guns, and more imposing, as a PMOP figure SHOULD be, so I'm going to stick with them, as others may be inclined to do, and that's perfectly acceptable too.

Either way, the guns are irrelevant to the Master Jinrai figure upgrade itself, which is pretty awesome, especially now that he's getting the classic Prime rifle included as well. I'm actually more curious about storage for that gun in truck and combined modes, given that PMOP/Ginrai have limited peg holes available for weapon storage. As it is, I'm hoping, but not expecting, that the Master Jinrai figure has a few extra peg holes in the legs to store the 2 peewee cannons PMOP comes with for combined mode, on his back...the existing cab has hollow areas back there, which is where I have them placed, a la Bruticus style, but it's a very loose fit currently.

Even if Master Jinrai doesn't solve that issue, I don't care, because at least he'll finally have a transformable cab/bot like the original G1, and that will be the most important aspect. I think I've definitely decided to chrome up the parts of both components to more closely resemble the G1 Takara release though, when I get Master Jinrai, (pipes, front bumper, etc.,)...if nothing else, it will at least add to the overall look of everything.

It's not a matter of opinion. Too big is too big. Feel free to continue being wrong though.

This looks like a really nice set. It forms the perfect Powermaster Optimus Prime figure.

I'd love to get it. But is it really necessary if your PM OP is covered in the Godbomber armor anyway?

 

It depends on whether you want Ginrai to be able to walk around while his trailer is in base mode.

 

I have a G1 that set up for all three. Probably just gonna leave the TR/Legends one as a power master, but I'd love to see how it turns out for you.

I suppose you could also use the stock cab in God Ginrai mode and then use the figure from this kit as a standalone too.

you and me both...my legends god ginrai is so close to being perfect. the wait is killing me...especially with the other PE set just sitting and chilling without something to do (except the thigh fillers).

I actually got mine just last year. Turns out Toy Dojo had one last one sitting in their stock, so I lucked out no one else looking for one browsed their store.
