Agreed, that image is clearly added onto takaras godbomber.

 

Either way, Takara's Godbomber can suck it, considering all the reviews I've seen so far, detailing the serious flaws in virtually every mode, including combined mode...nostalgia is the only factor "saving" it, and that's just not enough for me to care about it, personally.

So, with that being said, and my previous post standing corrected, I'll see what PE ends up doing and possibly go with whatever it is and utilize it in a different way to augment my PMOP/Jinrai Prime...along with any possible release Hasbro may be considering of useful consequence, given the deluxe Iron Apex name floating around, but we'll see, I suppose.

 

I still say not a bad figure in the end. Just a meh. Honestly its issues can be overlooked compared to the real fails we have had in the past.

 

Hey, does anyone want to contact Perfect Effect and ask if they will do a version of this for the LG-EX GODJINRAI? (though thinking about it, I'm not sure what you change, make the windows transparent and maybe add some chrome?)

 

I'm torn between this with the takara and the Maketoys PMP. Both look great both fill my Ginrai needs

 

If it were a HASBRO release, I'd say maybe, but coming from "Transformer god company Takara", that's a big NO.

Let's be 100% honest here...if it were a HASBRO release, this guy would be getting nothing but $#!t comments and reviews down the line, but because it's Takara, it gets a "pass" because of the name and for the sole sake of NOSTALGIA. Period.

I know this is true, and so does everyone else who's being honest...ALL of the reviewers that I've watched this far, save not one, has even ADMITTED OUTRIGHT that nostalgia is the ONLY thing that saves it from being total crap...paraphrasing to an extent, of course, but true nonetheless.

I can attest to that, as someone who is NOT blinded by the nostalgia aspect, because I never owned Godbomber/APEX Armor, and therefore do not have the sentimental attachment to it.

I LIKE the basic concept, don't get me wrong, I mean it makes a really big Optimus Prime, an even BIGGER version, but the execution is severely LACKING.

Vehicle mode...LAME, just like the original brick on wheels.

Bot mode...decent, big, but extremely fiddly and open/hollowness is worse than usual...also "transforming" him out of vehicle mode to bot or base mode is next to impossible without arms and other parts falling off.

Base mode...April is long past, but this is still a horrible joke.

Combined mode...Again, super fiddly, back heavy in a major way, ADDS to the difficulty of posing the base figure more than usual, often necessitating the entire figure being propped up, and parts fall of everytime posing is attempted.

Additionally, it's a "partsformer", which doesn't particularly bother me, but again, if HASBRO released this pile of plastic and called it "APEX Armor" for PMOP, the outcry from the vocal minority, and the anti-partsfomers, and the anti-Hasbro/pro-Takara hipsters, and so forth, would be RIDICULOUS at best...BUT, again, because it's by"Supreme Transformers god company Takara", it gets a "meh" and a pass because of NOSTALGIA.

DOUBLE. STANDARD.

The "ISSUES" are virtually ALWAYS on the shoulders of Hasbro, and Takara RARELY ever gets negative responses. Is Hasbro perfect? Nope...not by any stretch of the imagination, but generally speaking, they get the job done effectively enough that you CLEARLY KNOW AND RECOGNIZE the character, and usually for less than HALF Takara's cost for a FEW extra or maybe just DIFFERENT paint apps and OCCASIONAL additional tooling...and even as good as Takara is overall, THIS pile of plastic poop, DOES NOT warrant giving them a pass. They deserve EVERY BIT AS MUCH OF A BITCHING ABOUT, FOR THIS FLOP, AS HASBRO EVER DOES FOR ALL THE NITPICKING THEY GET REGULARLY.

However, even IF it's JUST a meh figure, and I've somehow overstated the craptasticness of the figure, which I don't believe I have...why would anyone willingly pay $70+ for a figure that isn't even close to being a GOOD figure, much less a GREAT figure?

The answer you're looking for is...NOSTALGIA, and a real BIAS against Hasbro and in FAVOR of Takara. That's the truth and we ALL know it.

Now, everyone is entitled to their own opinions about what is good and what isn't when it comes to what they enjoy or just whatever...and THIS is MY opinion. I realize it may upset some people, and puts a little too much truth out there for others to accept willingly, but that's my opinion to express, and I'm not trying to change anyone else's mind to agree with my views, just calling it as I see it.

I really wanted to like the Godbomber enough to finally have one in my collection, and finally upgrade my PMOP, but something told me not to pre-order like I did with the Takara PMOP (and yes, I KNOW, the Japanese call him something different, but I don't care because PMOP is Ginrai is PMOP, no matter how you want to look at it...), and now, having seen so many reviews and complaints about the crappy quality of the figure and design, I'm glad I didn't buy it...even at HALF the Takara price, STILL. NOT. WORTH IT. I might consider it at a voyager price, but not more...not EVEN for NOSTALGIA'S sake.

 

I'm not really satisfied with Hasbro OR Takara's versions of Powermaster Prime. Both are built around an existing Ultra Magnus toy where I believe PP really deserves his own mold from the ground up. For all the effort Takara put into tweaking their Ginrai they could have gone a little further and just did a whole new toy.

Anyway, I'm mostly buying this as a standalone toy. Maybe some day PE will do their own trailer/power suit to go with it. If not, it's a lovely little Ginrai toy on its own.

 

Agreed, pretty much, but I understand why it had to be done that way initially, and Takara gets full credit for at least making those additional modifications for a much better basic figure.

Master Jinrai though, is definitely worth having, either as an upgrade for the basic HasTak figures, or as its own stand alone figure.

I'm definitely looking forward to getting this release to complete a fun upgrade to my figure.

 

Can i say this, i have no nostalgia for God Ginrai, yet i still say it is an ok figure. Honestly it is a FUN TOY, of which i understand maybe the display option isnt the greatest, but i never felt that is what these TOYS should prioritize. Hell all the gimmicks it has in it is so much fun i say C plus. Granted one thing that could be helping is that it isnt Airachnid, a figure so bad that every design part was a flaw. Here, it is a few tolerances here and there that do hinder his separate bot mode, of which honestly who uses Godbomber as the robot and not the armor? Will i admit the shoulder gun is a mistake, yes, though it isnt really an issue for me because there is an easy fix. Lastly the sword. Yes it is a complete mistake but i dont ever use it since i dont connect it to the character I have read up on. Besides, it was used for one episode in the sequal season. In the end i feel it has just as much issue as motormaster does, or some other ok figures, almost every one has an issue, but it depends on your overall view of the end product. Also, to let you know, i spent 50 on him, so i spent practically what leaders are here. But hey, your view, you dont have to buy.

 

While it's not a new mold from the ground up, Ginrai only shares 6 unique parts with Ultra Magnus. It's almost it's own mold.

 

Pretty good looking pair of non-identical twins. Even better once replacement 3P parts start factoring in. I don't have any issues with this type of retool.

 

As long as we're reviewing God Bomber:
I like it. The tolerances on arms suck, and the red piece connecting the cannon is a nightmare. Also, Ginrai's shitty ankles sabotage combined mode.

That said, it's a fun toy. I like the alt mode (it's accurate, and it's silly, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ). I like that you can transform God Bomber without partsforming. I certainly don't resent God Ginrai requiring partsforming. It's not a must have, but I dig it.

Yeah I wouldn't call Godbomber a home run, but it's a fun toy. My major beef is the design of the arms, which is just a poor decision any way you look at it. But otherwise it's fun. And have no problem with the combined mode with Ginrai, personally I think it's awesome. Oh and since I didn't even know Godbomber existed until 16 years ago, didn't own it as a toy until 5 years ago, and didn't see it in a cartoon until three years ago obviously I have an insane amount of nostalgia clouding my judgement . I mean, everyone knows this.

 

So is the silver chest stripe official yet? Seems like it since the last few pics seem to have it. Shame he won't be a perfect match for the Hasbro version but I can easily add some paint to fix that.
