Reviews mean jack and squat. Do you know why I enjoy a Transformers film directed by Michael Bay? For all the reasons 'critics' hate one. The more they hate on it, the more I know I'm gonna love it. I bet I've watched The Rock, Armageddon, Bad Boys 1&2, Pearl Harbor (yep, I said it), 13 Hours and the TF quadrilogy (<---- not a word) more than any others (ok, maybe not Indiana Jones and Star Wars...let's be reasonable). So I hope it makes a billion dollars plus at the box office while sitting at a rotten tomatoes score under 25% because it means it was right up my alley.

Bring on the crappy reviews that don't mean a thing!

    I don't know about that.
If I've noticed something about early reviews is that they tend to not be representative of the final consensus.

Perhaps you should look at it from a more objective point of view; while you may like corny dialogues, crapy jokes and lots of explosions, I believe that most people are more interested in the story and character development. Which is why films like Transformers don't get solid reviews from the bigger part of critics and audiences.

I'm going to see it regardless of reviews. I was never one for reviews unless I were watching an original film or something. Regardless of quality, I always see films attached to properties I like.

Not necessarily that I like them, I just have a higher tolerance for crappy dialogue and jokes.

What exactly is the point of talking about a film one saw if it is not to inform others about it? Like, you don't need to blindly follow people's words but words can be handy. Say I didn't like robots pissing on people's heads and ignored reviews of a movie in which someone had their head pissed on by a robot so I found out when I watched the film — thus being unpleasantly surprised. Now, if I had read those reviews, maybe I would have at least braced myself. If I try to talk about it so people are aware, only to have my warnings ignored... pointless to have done that, right? Say I liked something — the logical extension is that the thing I liked should be ignored too so someone can forge their own path. And it's not like heeding someone's words to not heed someone's words is a paradox or anything.

All a review is is someone putting their thoughts out and giving you an idea of what to expect — it's not something to forge an entire idea around, but it's not something to discard like yesterday's garbage.

The artciles by Scott Mendelson of FORBES always comments that, what the critics hate about the bayformers--overstylised action, Bayhem, overlong third action--is exactly the things that normal cinema goers want in a movie like Transformers, thus each movie makes bank regardless of critics. There has to be some truth to that

Will this one break the chain of TF movies being worse than Twilight in reviews?

Do we know when the embargo for reviews is lifted. Usually a movie only a few days from release would have several reviews but so far we've had nothing. I'm expecting this to be reviewed largely the same as all the others but I'm geniunely curious if this is at least better than AOE. I realize that's setting the bar incredibly low...

Probably. But plenty of movies (mad max, Batman, wonderwoman, Logan, Captain America, etc, etc) have proven that you can do a movie along these lines without it being as god awful as these always seem to be. (that being said I own them all and I'll own this one too I'm sure)

I am hoping that maybe the Bumblebee movie shows everyone that we didn't have to put up with what we've been getting for a decade now. We'll see.

I'm also hoping against hope this one is one of the best, but I know better. I'm all set to go see it this week bad reviews or not.

A big problem with reviews is its all about style, not about content. Fiction is ruled by tropes. I hate those tropes, i want REAL creativity: a story that breaks the unwritten rules of what has to be included and what can not be done in a story. The only way i'm gonna know about the absence of particular tropes in a movie is through a detailed synopsis, i dont mind spoilers. A review is useless to me, also because a critic will invariably badmouth a movie - making up ridiculous excuses - when certain tropes ARE absent, or even when they are played down.

Look. While I hate these movies as well, I can't help but notice that some of you fans praise the original '84 movie for all the wrong reasons. See, the '84 movie sucked as bad as Michael Bay's films. It was, indeed, a great Transformers movie, though only until Optimus Prime's death; after that, everything went to hell and the rest of the film became a long commercial for all the new toys Hasbro wanted to sell to you. The story was bad, the characters were badly written...So I believe it's an overrated movie among the fans, and most of them actually love it because, heck, nostalgia. The right reason for which it was actually better was innocence.
If you compare Michael Bay's Transformers movies to the G1, you will get the same impression of a giant mess that doesn't make any sense. A toy-seller series, really. But, what G1 was better for being a kid's show. It felt cartoonish, it felt sweet, it felt fun. And this is why we love it so much, because it's childish, and it reminds us of our school years. Because today, I find the series hard to watch. I can't find any actual pleasure in the show's story and characters, except for nostalgia. Alpha Trion's beard, Orion Pax's girlfriend etc.. None of these make sense, so stop blaming Michael Bay for ruining the Transformers with things that are "unrealistic", like Jetfire being an old man, Devastator having balls, Hot Rod speaking in a french accent... These are not the problem. The problem is that it's aimed for an audience of average teens.
There is one thing that is better than G1, and yet the closest we've had to it. Transformers Prime. Character depth, good fights, good story. This is what the live action movies should be like, and not like G1.
