As always with FT bots, the face just doesn't do the rest justice. It's like she's got zero character and looks like a zombie. She looks the part, it looks like a female bot no question. It just doesn't scream "Arcee". I hope they fix that because the rest is simply phenomenal.

Much like their Skyfire, the thing is amazing, but that face screams "cosplayer". I also hope FT decided to do a new head for him that is G1 Sunbow accurate.

 

I think the waist would probably be fine either way but I also suspect that one of the reasons FT - and pretty much everyone else who's designed a G1-styled MP Arcee - has gone with the more humanoid torso is that a more angular one would not come off so well when considering waist articulation. Consider how much grief FT gets for putting those mid-thigh swivels on characters like Berserk, because it breaks the line of the figure or whatever. Also, I think the designers here should be given a benefit of the doubt that there is a reason for the design choice that isn't "engineering-type dudes giving themselves boners."

The controversy over the waist aesthetics is legitimate and reasonable people can definitely differ. I do think it's an exaggeration to say that FT Arcee belongs on a Barbie shelf. The idea of adding any gender signifiers at all to alien robots is going to introduce problems: why should the "standard" bot be male-modeled (as in broad shouldered, the occasional abs like Sideswipe, males voices, etc.)? The principle problem is where to draw the line at objecting: why should "female" bots have female voices, painted on lips, and chest designs that almost always are suggestive of breasts on some level? Because these are the visual cues that tell us "hey, this one's a girl!"

Maybe one place to draw the line is a design element that seems to cross some boundary into overt sexualization, and for some people Rouge's hips/waist qualify. I don't think it's as clear-cut as something like those dinotbot fembots that FP designed, with the unmistakeable halter-tops and thong underwear.

There will be, just not sure how soon. I'm pretty sure I bot said the design was done but that it isn't on the production schedule yet. I'll have to look for it if you can't find it as I think it was a reply to something I asked.

 

Hm. With xtb the quality just isn't there. Still, if their Arcee is good and is more toon accurate, I might pick one up in addition to this one.

 

Now this is really really nice. Wasn't sure how it would come out. Amazing recolor.

 

Keith confirmed they are doing the fembots. I suspect it will be a lot like the Junkion situation with repaints and slight remolds for the other characters. The FT version is such a beautiful design that no matter what I know we will finally get an excellent figure. Extremely impressed with Rouge.

 

Yeah. I seriously doubt if/when XTB even gets around to Arcee, that she'll even be of decent quality.

XTB's stuff is *constantly* a gamble and the inconsistency is so damn depressing.

And who is to say they'll even have the same awesome designer in a few years. If FT is smart, they'll nab him up. Although I think their reigns are fine as-is.

Lastly, and again, I have no issues at all with this Arcee. They are giving us plenty of options to mix/match faces and parts ... it's all around good stuff.

Her face isn't 100% toon, but it's still gorgeous and very feminine.

 

I think the face is fine. It's not perfect, sure, but it's still very good and [I think] clearly feminine. I mean, this is FT, where facescupts have been a bit of an Achilles Heel for them, but this is no Perceptor. If they can improve it, awesome, but based on their track record, I'm not sure I'd want to gamble on a change ending positively.

For the body, I'm solidly in the would-prefer-a-squared-off-ab-section group. However, the smooth-curved one they have isn't a deal breaker for me. Is it oddly or even eye-rollingly human? Sure. But it's not crazy over the top. I mean, even with the "boobplate" version of the chest, it's not like they've added visible nipples or anything (Thunderblast, anyone?).

The only bit I'd really like to see change is the shoulders. Rouge has some small, obvious ball shoulders-- like the Generations figure-- as opposed the more... er, scooped(?) shoulders usually seen in the cartoon (and movie).

 

I don't know, these faces have a lot of character to me. Maybe some of it gets lost with paint or plastic material color, but I wouldn't say they lack character or feeling. I don't want a generic block face but I certainly do not expect a sideshow (need to make a double take) type face on a robot. Are you sure this doesn't strike that happy grey area?

I wouldn't be shocked if they were. Figure is so thin she doesn't really need ratchets.

 

Nice (as always).

Whilst I apparently think the face sculpt is quite good and nice, I wish it and other parts were simply de-anthropomorphized to a degree: The abdomen and face (and apparently butt?) were less rounded and soft, with more subtle angles.

Other'n that, this figure is coming along nicely.

I'd prefer a more toon face too but nobody buys FansToys for the faces unless they're masochists.

It's much easier to get excited for far-off foreign product when there's nothing available domestically.
