That's kinda like saying "not feeling the Lion-head on RazorClaw's chest". It's where it goes, and was prominent in all iterations of the character.

Face-plate is better, though it could still be even narrower at the chin and more V-shaped. But the eyes---they're nothing like Apeface's:

Is this new head better quality or more toon/anime accurate?

I really like the artwork on KFC's boxes and comics. Makes me really wish we could get an all new animated series with that artwork.

The level of nitpicking on this figure is getting to be a bit silly.

Now that everyone is mentioning it, his mouth plate should be a " V " shape and not " ^ " shaped like Optimus mouthplate. Wonder where KFC came up with that, it's not toon or toy accurate.

*sighs* I'm not impressed. He looks like a KO, I'm going to be straight up and honest. I don't mind the swirly plastic, I don't mind the colors, but I do mind the matte plastic. It looks cheap, it looks as though it lacks the polish it needs to feel like it's close enough to be legit. Especially as a Masterpiece. I've seen the video review, I've seen the ins and outs of this figure I know he's not hollowed out and thin, but he LOOKS like he is. That does a lot to turn me off of it.

Their Cyclonus, Scourge, Blaster and Wreck Gar look and feel fantastic. This one, however, just doesn't give me that same vibe.

I do like the Headmaster, I think he looks incredible and I do like the light up effect on the dashboard, that's incredibly neat.

That said, I feel no desire to own this one. At all. Even if it was clearanced out, even if it was KO'd, I have no desire to own this one. I can't believe I'm saying that.

Art is sick as ever <3

Caught me at the right time, I was just finishing up for the night and quickly sketched up some alternates xD
A couple animation-esques, a heavily stylized, and far right is a Titans Returns-esque one. [call me ;)  ]

    ApefaceHead2.jpg

I feel like [sketches disregarded], the heads a bit wide. Or I guess it's more the bot mode face bits, it the robot or gorilla face. Wouldn mind seeing the new one thinned up a little bit. Makes the proportions seem kinda stretched, as is

But anyways! Late night musings. Feel free to disregard, Im gonna get these guys either way, haha

Just some of my initial impressions on Kingorilla

First of all, I would like to apologize for the absence of the proper photoset i.e. proper studio quality pictures. I had hit a snag with one of my setup equipment and looking to fix it within this next few days.

Rest assured that we will return to proper studio quality pictures next week, and I will do a proper photoshoot by then.
I was given the opportunity to take a look at the production sample of KFC’s EAVI Metal Phase 9A Kingorilla and Kongor aka Headmaster Apeface and partner Spasma.

This came as a surprise to many as usually the MP Headmaster category had been cornered initially by Maketoys with their release of Cupola and Ironwill (Chromedome and Hardhead). Hence, it is only logical to think that Maketoys will continue to finish off the MP Headmasters eventually. There has been talks and some lineart reveals from Maketoys on their take on MP Apeface and the eventual Horrorcons but it come and went and there were no sight of them. KFC showed their cards unexpectedly with their version of Apeface and Snapdragon at the recent toy show in China and the community were abuzz with anticipation. Again, there are 2 sides of the story on collector’s faith in KFC and their affiliate Xtransbots Toys. But I can safely say, Kingorilla is one solid release. (yes, for those who thinks my post is TL;DR)

The robot mode took a jab at the toy aesthetic and looked like an updated version of the toy with modern sensibilities. I like how streamlined the robot mode looks and how some parts integrated well into each other. Many initial impression would be the heavy looking backpack will hamper its ability to stand. I am glad to say that the ratchet joints on the knees and the ball joints for the ankles are up to mark and can deliver proper balanced stances. The original Headmaster gimmick with the ability bar is also accounted for and this nod was a sight of delight for G1 enthusiast. The articulation is good and it also helps that many of the transformation joints lend itself to the articulation for the robot mode.

Getting from robot to jet is a no-brainer. The transformation is simple enough that you will know where things will tab and where they will go. Okay, I might exaggerated abit, the initial splitting of the hips and back plate needs to be referred to the instructions before anything can be swung in place. But I like it how this seemed to be intuitive unlike the previous release where there were some reservations with regards to the complexity of the transformation. The jet mode is HUGE and with the added wingspan, he is bigger than any regular sized MP Seeker out there. With the die-cast parts around the legs of the ape and some on the innards, the jet mode feels heavy and you could probably kill a person by throwing at the person. It comes with 2 extra burst effect and a flight stand for satiate your display options.

Finally, the Gorilla mode. Honestly, I would personally prefer a beefier Gorilla but he looks passable and has all the necessary articulation needed to pose it convincingly in this mode. Granted the best gorilla mode in any transformer goes to Perfect Effect Beast Gorira, but seeing that what limitations the designers had to work with based on the source material, I give this a thumbs up. The transformation from Jet to Gorilla mode was also easy (but reference to the instructions is a must as some tabs needs precision to align) and you can transform them back and forth on your desk without breaking a sweat.

Kongor (Spasma) is your bog standard headmaster with the standard articulation you would expect from a Headmaster but he came with an added feature that is the magnets on his boots so you can display him perching on the cockpit or if you want to, on your fridge.

Kingorilla comes with 2 guns, and a shield, and the guns light up with LR626 batteries (total of 6, 3 for each) and a CR2025 battery is required for the light up cockpit feature.

Overall, I am very pleased with Kingorilla. For those who have an itch for a MP Headmaster Horrorcon, Kingorilla fits the bill nicely. The plastic quality is very decent, the transformation is simple and not difficult and finally the robot and gorilla mode has all the necessary articulation needed for your posing pleasure.

Would I recommend it, well yes of course. However some of you might want to wait for Maketoys version. But for now, it is one of the better KFC release to date.

Edit: Just read that @ibot will be releasing another Apeface head with Snapdragon. This definitely rocks.
