If Takara fails at designing it, then I would hope the 3rd party market realizes the potential and makes one. I don't care how ridiculously complicated and expensive it is, I will buy it if they pull if off.

It took them a couple tries to get Megaton and Prime right so if Dinobot doesn't look up to snuff, they can always try again in a few years.

Considering their track record I have no reason to believe Takara would fail.

Sure Dinobot is one of the more difficult 3D-models to cast into a transforming toy, but I know they can do it. I already had slight doubts with how they would do Cheetor but once I saw the prototype I knew that they nailed the look.

Because of Sunstreaker price jack, I hate to see what Dinobot is going to be.

    There is a 3P one.

Not really. There's a 3D printed one that has some degree of circulation, but no properly finished figure with wide distribution.

And as valiant an effort as it is, it's also nowhere close to the standards TakaraTomy has set for the Beast Wars MP lineup.

Regardless, it's the best Dinobot that's currently available.

And if Takara "fails at designing this" (their words) then there is another option.

    That was my point.

I'd be extremely surprised if Sunstreaker's $120 price tag isn't just a placeholder.

I think Archon's main point is that it'd be nice to, well, be able to rely, for lack of a better word, on 3P companies the way G1 fans can, if Takara doesn't make a key bot right... or at all.

A big question that popped in my head is how (or if) they will do alternate beast faces...they've done it to this point, but those are smaller and/or just the face rather than a whole dino head (which *may* not be necessary). At the very least, I'm intrigued by how they tackle this.

As long as the mouth opens, maybe some tongue articulation (get yer mind outta the gutter!), does he need alternate beast heads? That's only going to add more coin to a figure that probably really needs to trim wherever possible.

I think he'll have 3 beast expressions like Primal & Cheetor. The easiest and most plastic-sparing way would be to have the moveable lower jaw as a standard base and all you switch is the top part of the head so what changes is the eyelids, brow and upper lip for snarling expressions and revealing various degrees of top-row teeth. A slightly posable tongue fixed to that lower jaw piece which could extend beyond his teeth for his hissing and maybe optional eyes like Cheetor would be a nice touch too as Dinobot would often roll those eyes all over the place.

    Here's how I'd do it-
Neutral/pondering face: eyes midway open, top lip shaped in conjunction with the lower jaw to perfectly close his mouth and conceal all the teeth
    IMG_0699.JPG
Snarling face: squinted eyes, flared nostrils, lip curling slightly at the front
    IMG_0696.PNG
Shock/Rage face: eyes wide open, raised brow, lip raised revealing much more top row teeth.
    IMG_0693.PNG IMG_0700.jpg

If we have the option to open his mouth to whichever degree we like with any expression as well as switchable eyes then we should be able to get every expression he ever pulled out of this mp.

Yes, but...they made a point in the two releases to date that they will give alternate expressions to both modes. I think a basic and a snarling/teeth bared beast face will be included. That said, obviously getting the figure at all trumps these kind of details, but I quite like the extra expressions as both modes were very emotive in the show.

Watching bw again and was thinking if dinobot was to come with a golden disk will he be able to hold it in beast mode??
Will he have a port on his hand or will the disk have a horrible peg sticking out of it, like that obvious peg on cheetors leg. I doubt the beast mode hands will be capable of holding the disk firmly without it constantly falling out of his tiny beast hands. Any thoughts on this, something new to discuss to kill the time, well a page or two :D

Easy- have one loose diecast Disc and one far lighter plastic, painted or vac-plated version with a raptor hand permanently attached in the holding pose which you just swap in when you want him to carry it in beast mode...
I really doubt that'll be what we get but it would beat a disc with big peg sticking out of it for me. I really don't see him being able to support the weight of a diecast disc at all in beast mode but I'm actually not 100% partial to the disc being metal. Then again, if there's anything in the entire beast wars mp line which should be, it's the Golden Discs.

That a cool idea but are they gonna go through that much trouble, don't get me wrong I'd love an arm with the disk permanently held in place just for the sake of him being able to hold the disk. And also getting the proper disk for robot mode. Looking at him on the screen just makes you want him more and more, and makes you think how the bloody hell are they gonna do this (as a whole not the disk part)
