Um Maketoys Downbeat does exactly that. That's one of its main transformation features and why his torso in robot mode is so perfectly sized and shaped. The entire front of the car collapses around itself shaving off several cm from its width.

Exactly what I would expect a modern Sideswipe toy to be able to do. It needn't flatten out exactly like it does in the toon, but narrowing would certainly be required these days. I certainly think it could be tilted for the chest position to at least attempt a flatter surface too. The main thing that can't magic away is just the car lights really.

This why I'm so excited for MT's masterpieces, because they're doing this kind of cool shit now. And Meteor certainly seems to pull some really clever stuff with its transformation to give it the proportions/features it has.

Is it safe to say that this is Dreamwave inspired?

Do you mean the front headlights? Why would you need to? They appeared in robot mode in the cartoon

I was thinking how they shrink between modes a bit. Eh probably not something that would stand out much though you're right.

I have a couple of questions...

    1. Will the be releasing the core 3 seekers all at once? Or separately, with one coming out every month?
    2. Do we have an ETA on the release date for this figure yet?

6??? All at once? In one month?? ...3 my budget "might" allow for...but 6 all at once!?!?..........yeesh. I really hope they plan to space them out a little bit. Rather than slam us with that many alt colors of this same mold all at once.

No, not all at once. I'm sure with different accessories to be included for each seeker, 1 every 2-3 months would be more realistic but nothing has been confirmed so none of your questions can be answered without speculating or assuming. This project has already been pushed out by a year or so and we might not even see one this year.

All you can do is come back and check, I would say in a month like June/July. Hopefully preorders will be up and MT puts out more info to the sellers or at a 3P show.

You know, I actually wouldn't be surprised if someone takes a crack at a toon accurate Sideswipe now that Sunstreaker is creating a demand for it. I wouldn't think that a toon accurate Sideswipe is possible, but after seeing MMC Trailbreakers chest I feel like anything is possible. I still think that official Takara Sideswipe is awesome though, escpecially that alt mode. Every kids dream car haha.

The stabilizer hinges never really bothered me much, but Maketoys, if you're reading this: Please make sure they're made of really strong, durable materials. I don't want to eventually have Seekers with only half a tailfin.

Yeah, I actually don't get all the fuss about Sideswipe "needing" a re-design. Just comes down to how much you need it to look EXACTLY like the toon. Not that much, thanks. I like the broad, athletic design of TT's Sideswipe. I'll never really completely understand why so many people seem more loyal to the cartoon than to the toys. I loved the cartoon and watched it religiously, but what I loved was the adventures I made up on my own.

I do think that the TT's seekers are really outdated and am eager to see more of Howling Meteor. I think the two situations are pretty different. People are mostly wanting Sideswipe updated because he was designed with a different aesthetic than the one that has prevailed since the change in designers; the Seekers are actually held back not only by their aesthetics, which in the later version of the mold are not all that off, but by engineering choices that can be far improved on to deliver a figure that is not only more authentic in appearance but - more importantly - has far more of the articulation that we've come to expect in high-end figures. That's a more worthy goal for a re-do than just bringing an old figure into line with newer ones. If that's the goal, there will never be an end to the re-do's.

THe only thing I see really wrong with MP sideswipe are the "boots". I don't know if someone making a Sideswipe with that one improvement will be enough for me to buy it.

I can see some folks wanting a chest that wasn't so wide & angular. Totally agree regarding the boots, though.

Do you mean his hollow legs? I'd forgotten about that but they are a fairly significant defect, since they're highly visible no matter how you might pose him. Hollow limbs aren't uncommon but most figures have been able to get the hollows facing backwards so it's not so in your face. I'd agree with you that a re-do still isn't really needed just for that. Would much rather have a new figure.
