I see thanks! Besides what comics were packed with CWs & Thrilling 30 I don't read or have an interest in the IDW comics (Marvel Comics was the only TF run of comics I cared for) so a lot of IDW stuff just flies over my head.

There was '07 repaint of Cybertron Hot Shot that was pretty decent.

That was a Walmart exclusive though. Not a mainline release.

James Roberts/IDW-santioned character assassination aside, it's because, well, look at him.

aside from the head, he has zero correct details to look like the character he is supposed to be. His legs are the wrong way around, his arms are the wrong color, he doesn't have the car cockpit chest, and those missing details result in a much less dynamic color layout then the original had PLUS he's lacking the giant shoulder pads/wings, which is probably his most distinctive visual trait.

Seems like, with relatively minor remolding this base mold would have worked MUCH better for Nightbeat and/or Siren.

it's also kind of a dull/soft head sculpt in a line that has been full of razor-sharp head designs.

With a little more paint, which I added to him myself, he's really not a bad figure.

You're missing out man. You should try one or three issues (consensus is that MTMTE or Lost Light recommended. ):D .

Other than the color scheme, it's fine that he doesn't look exactly like his G1 toy. Thats the kind of thing that happens when repainting a character from an unrelated toy. Not every character can have their own toy and molds need to be repainted even when the original toy hasn't been repainted. Krok and Quake don't resemble their original toys either. BUT Breakaway should have had more paint on him to make him closer in color scheme at least to G1 Getaway.

I agree. Nightbeat and Siren need new chests and Siren needs a siren. But like Getaway, Krok and Quake, they probably wouldn't get that. Unless Takara remolds Chromedome into Go Shooter and Minerva as much as they did with Kup.

right, but my whole/main point was summed up in that 2nd paragraph: he was just a poor fit for that mold, when there were available characters (Siren/Goshooter even would have had a similar color palette) that would have been a much better fit style-wise ~ i generally don't mind repaints as random characters OR need my Classics figures to "look exactly like his G1 toy." it's just this mold has zero visual connections to the original aside from the face, and they didn't reinforce it with the deco (as you said).

Krok and Quake are the exact opposite to me, while seeming like they'd be awkward fits they managed to work minor miracles (IMHO) with the decos and make them "feel" visually like their original incarnations (especially Quake who's color layout in bot mode is basically spot on)
