Agreed, in fact here is how mine is displayed right now, Primal has also spent a fair amount of time in both modes since he arrived.

OK, first of all, I love Cheetor.
And I am the biggest fan of the "old way" of making Masterpieces, Hasui style, but I hold some of these amazing modern MPs in my hand and they are awesome in their own right.

But holy cow, the joints that allow his shoulders to rotate are crazy tight, and that's bad because the other three joints in that shoulder are tiny and stuff is gonna break. Not sure if everyone's is like this, but .... it's bad.

So I remembered that this is the same issue that Maketoys GunDog had, and that caused a lot of people to break the arm off. It's the exact same thing - a metal peg is punched in so tight that trying to turn it can break stuff. People said you could put a soldering iron on the metal for a second and it would cause the metal to expand, along with the surrounding plastic, so it ends up not so tight. Someone also did it with just a screwdriver that they heated up.

Me? I have a round file, like this:

    File.jpg

The diameter is a bit smaller than Cheetor's metal peg. After heating it up over a gas stove, practically until glowing, I pressed it to the metal peg for a few seconds, and it worked like a charm. I can move all of Cheetor's shoulder joints smooth as a baby's bottom now. I had tried lubricating that joint with silicone but nothing really worked it was so damn tight. Not until I tried this and I feel so much better about Cheetor now. It was remarkably easy and remarkably effective. If you try it, just go slow and do a little at a time, then test, repeat.

That sounds like a great idea. I really appreciate the tip. Could you clarify a little, do you heat the file then touch it to the metal part for a few seconds, THEN do you test/rotate Cheetor's shoulders right away or WAIT a few minutes for the plastic in contact with the metal peg to cool?
Just afraid to ruin my Cheetor so wanted to clarify. I would really appreciate feed back.

So, nice piece of metal like that round file, gas stove, left it directly on the fire for a few minutes.
Then press to the metal peg. Dont touch any other part. Careful. 10-15 seconds.
Then I just blew on it a bit to cool, then I was able to rotate the joint, carefully, almost immediately, to see how it's going. Also support it by grabbing the whole thing. The plastic that you hold on to while you test the rotate is not very warm. See how much it's loosened up. Once it was loose enough for me I ran it under cold water from the tap to set it and keep it from expanding any more, but you could run it under cold water right off the bat to stop the process after each time you heat that peg if you want to be really careful, which I was not. I went through that process about 5 times like that on one joint until it loosened up enough.

Fortunately the shoulder joints on mine don't seem to be overly tight, I didn't have any issues rotating them

Same. I don't recall any problems but I was exceptionally gently due to the horror stories about the shoulders.
I think it's time for a play and change of pose with the lil fur ball!

What i do love about these BW MPs is there is merit to keep them in both modes and you'll get an equal amount of posture and expression. MP cars are beautiful to have on display, but you know what you're getting from having them in car mode.

With these guys, you can tell a whole series of stories by what animal face and pose you put them in, just as much as you can with robot mode.

I don't think any other series (apart from BM) would offer that in MP style.

I absolutely agree with you. That was the main reason I loved Beast Wars toys in general... you could do more with both modes. Don't get me wrong, I love G1 MP, but I would wholeheartedly invest in MP Beast Wars.
As you mentioned, both modes merit displays and that is why I have bought atleast (and will continue to buy) two of each (AND the Wei Jiang OS coming up... obvious Cheetor upgrade would be stronger shoulder joints!),

It WORKED. I just tried it this morning and my gosh it worked. You sir are a genius. Thank you so much. The shoulder joints are buttery smooth now. Thank you SO much. I got over zealous with it the first time and the arm is a little TOO loose... anybody have any tips for tightening it up a little !!! (here we go again!).
Thanks again guys, this is a great group of people and you guys are really helpful.

Awesome. Glad it helped. Lord knows I feel way better about my Cheetor now. Can't take the credit though - this came up as a fix for Maketoys GunDog.

So if it's a little too loose now, there is this stuff called Future Floor Polish that works miracles on tightening joints of all kinds. It's frikken amazing. Get some worked into the joint, use a paintbrush or the like to drip it in there, articulate the joint to get it all around, and then let it dry for 24 hours. Still not tight enough? Do it again.

Tightening Joints? - Future Floor Polish?

Who else remembers this framed photo from Cheetor's room? It is not exact, but I remember how awkward yet natural they both looked. Like father and son... 20170322_180757.jpg

Nice. I still need to do this and print out a mini version to stick in a frame which I'll probably make out of card. Just need to get a decent background that looks like a 90s cg sky

I agree 100%. I love my G1 MPs, and they are fun as heck to transform, but I feel like I'm hiding their personality away when I transform them because I mean, there's only so much that they ever did in vehicle mode. Plus, it feels really odd to just have one or two transformed at a time without everyone being in alt-mode to roll out.

The beasts, even with a little leg kibble, don't have that issue at all- they pretty much spent equal amounts of time in robot and beast mode during season 1, and each mode for each character was unique and expressive in completely unique ways, while still being able to interact if one character was in beast mode and another was in robot mode. Absolutely genius decision by the creators of the show, and something I didn't even really think about consciously too much until I realized how much more emotive these toys are than the originals.

Yes we know, you don't care for Beast War's, whatever that means. Go squat under someone else bridge.

I've being on this thread since the start and still haven't comprehended the transformation, can someone lend some assistance :D  the part in which his robot head sits on, does that snap all the way down, mine is super tight and doesnt feel like folding down at all. And the robot legs are confusing IMO, I cant figure it out
