Okay, we've got an issue. (HOW did I get unsubscribed from this thread?!)

I have three sources that put Primal at 2.8M, and two extra that put him at erroneous heights. Those can be disregarded, as 2.8 is the most typically quoted, and currently official, height.

Rattrap, however. I've got two official sources with him at 2.3 meters, which seems outlandishly tall to me. And two more official sources that put him at 5' eve. Confirmation bias aside, 1.5 seems far more accurate than 2.3

So, either our scale chart needs to be adjusted, or the height between them is very wibbly indeed.

Aside: I think Scorponok is a bit short in the current lineup. I need to look at it more, as I have 6 months of thread to catch up on. Stupid notification system.

 

I sanded the joints and gave everything a light once over with 600 grit. I then hit everything with a primer.

For @GALVATOM 's, I used a color called Raw Sienna with chocolate stripes. For later version I went with something closer to what Unicron9 is using, a color called Testor's Fabric Tan. Same chocolate stripes.

 

The relative heights between the characters is a 'best fit' scenario based on observations from the show, rather than from documented heights. We're hoping the Masterpiece line will give us a more solid footing. MP Primal's bio card lists him as 2.8m tall. We're expecting MP Cheetor's to say something like 2.5m tall, and as the line goes on, more blanks will be filled in.

Absolutely.

MP Primal is 19cm tall. His bio card says he's 280cm tall in 'real life'. Thus, every 1cm of toy height represents 14.75cm of 'real life' height.

MP Cheetor is reportedly 17.5cm tall. Using the 14.75cm number, Cheetor is therefore 257cm tall in 'real life'.

If we got those scale charts that would help massively in pinning down the season 3 cast. And that Grand Mal model sheet is wonderful, thank you so much!

That conversion would make MP Rattrap 10.31cm or 4" tall if he is 5 foot. If he is 2.3M (or 7' 6") tall, that makes the figure 6.14".

Personally I think a 4" Rattrap is the best. That puts him just a hair under MP Bumblebee, so it is certainly doable.

Generations Rattrap comes is at 6". So the MP should, IMO, be smaller.

That means Blackarachnia, Airrazor and Quickstrike should all be around the same mark.

That's a lot of little guys. But I want scale accuracy. I don't care if they're a thousand bucks each. Too big and they throw the whole system off.

 

No way. Rattrap was small, but he wasn't that small. An MP Rattrap should be taller than the Generations figure for sure. Between Gen Rttrap and MP Cheetor height. Verno posted a comparrison in the Cheetor thread I can't find, but a 4" MP Rattrap would be woefully undersized.

 

Going from the observations from the show, Rattrap is just above Cheetor's shoulder. I believe he's listed as 2.3m in the chart, thus a 15.5cm tall toy. That's 2cm shorter than MP Cheetor. So yes, he'll need to be bigger than his Generations toy, which is a relief to the designers I'm sure.

 

Not according to the official numbers. And generations Rattrap is a full head taller than MP Bumblebee. The generations one is certainly larger than I care for. Halfway between the Gen and the 96 version is both accurate and ascetically pleasing (to me)

 

I'm telling you the numbers aren't adding up. I've got two sources for 2.3 and two sources for 1.5.

 

Putting the numbers aside just for a moment, what do you see in the show?

Looks like I was right in the ballpark with Rattrap.

 

I don't trust the show. The creators have said numerous times they used scale as a tool. We know the real world height of Primal and Rattrap, and i extrapolate from there.

 

It looks like TT are guessing, just like the rest of us, because if the difference in heights here...



... is half a metre, I'll eat Cheetor when he arrives.

EDIT: Maybe it's 2.3 to his head and 2.6 to the tips of his crown?

 

I dunno. I should be getting ready for work but I'm just sitting here looking like a confused John Travolta in Pulp Fiction.

I can only put it down to the designers looking at the show for reference, as those behind the paperwork looked at the confusing numbers online.

 

Sadly I don't have any numbers, just graphics showing relative heights. But I think that Mainframe played it fast and loose with scale anyway, so even their official scales are at best loose guidelines.

Meanwhile this thread alone is jam packed with evidence that Rattrap isn't nearly as short as you're suggesting.

You won't trust the show, but you will trust unverified numbers from auxillary media that is itself merely made up after the fact likely based on skewed or inaccurate perceptions of the show?

What you're implying would put Rattrap at almost exactly half Cheetor's height, which is way off.

They totally did. They admitted to as much. I'm sure a "base" scale chart exists, but there's many scenes in the show where characters change size depending on what allowed certain shots to work. It happens all the time in CGI shows/movies where character will float or size change to fit a shot's composition.
