Scale looks really weird in that pic. Either those are the tiniest cranes ever or Soundwave is Godzilla size. I'm assuming the latter since we can see microscopic ladders on the cranes.
Seriously. Are they even trying anymore? Humans digging up long-buried Transformers has been a worn-out cliché since the Dreamwave days. This kind of thing happened in the live action movies. It happened in Animated. It's happened in IDW. This trope constantly robs the robot characters of agency and too conveniently puts power in the hands of human characters who always seem intent on using their dug-up robots for schemes related to power. Then you just wait for the robot to wake up and cause havoc. So bored of this. Revolution is stupid and aggressively uninteresting.
Given that it's been previously revealed that this issue is a flashback to the Adventure Team and Soundwave fighting mummies in Egypt in the 1980s, I don't think that's going to quite be what happens here.
Regardless of people's feelings on Revolution, Revolutionaries is its own thing and has been quite fun so far. I am tired of people making assumptions based on the fact that this has a similar title. Revolution was a quick smash-up between Hasbro properties that had everyone fight a dumb video game boss as its conclusion. Revolutionaries is John Barber writing a comic that he was born to do in which he has fun with continuity with a decade plus worth of comic book plotlines.
I'll have to see exactly how they answer it, but on its face it's difficult to reconcile this with what Soundwave was already doing in the 1980s: Soundwave (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity - Transformers Wiki
Not really? The book's just going to show that Soundwave had some escapades on Earth while he was trying to find out what Bludgeon and friends were up to.
Revolutionaries is canon with the main IDW books? Huh. Could have sworn it was its own continuity....or was that another Revolution comic?
I don't think so. Previous IDW books place him on Earth during the 1980's, and I don't think it has ever been confirmed how much time he spent there before that. Maybe the cover image is not a literal event that happens in the story and is just trying to show off themes for that issue, such as having a team up with the Action Team and Soundwave in Egypt.
