I don't bother reading or even looking at the comics anymore. They're not really canon, and just purile rubbish. The toys sell by themselves. Once Takara realise that, they can cease with the hentai and/or throw Sick-o-mofo out by his ear.

In fact, I think I will refer to both the artist, and associated artwork, it artwork in that style regarding TFsfrom now on as "Sikomofo".

Akira Toriyama sexualised teenage Bulma in Dragon Ball and drew little kid Son Goku naked. Would you also call him a sick mofo?

 

Toriyama only drew Goku as a kid being a kid, so being naked was nothing unnatural (Bulma was... 16 I think at the time? Is awkward but I don't know how rules work in Japan).

This however, this is a completely different beast.

I got him today. As expected, pretty much the only thing I like about it over the older CHUG Astrotrain is that it's a voyager. But overall I still I prefer the Henkei deluxe for not requiring partsforming and having more convincing alt modes. It does look a lot better than the Hasbro Astrotrain and Sentinel Prime versions of this mold and it displays nicely though.

 

Were they sexulisations of undercharged children? If so, then yes. However, nudity and nakedness have different connotations. For example, I remember a discussion about the appropriateness of seeing a man bathing with two children together, naked, in the animated film "Tonari no Totoro". However, as bathing between parents and children together is/was fine in Japan (and indeed, happened in my own family in the UK), then this could be seen as no problem. In the UK, a TV presenter/Newsreader was once questioned by police for pictures of their child, naked, sitting on the toilet. The presenter stated that it was perfectly normal to take pictures of their child in such a manner, especially in the context of their first time on the loo. In public also, children of certain ages are seen as ok to be seen running around naked in the garden, the beach, etc. I've looked after children from strict Muslim parents and it was fine to attend to their toilet duties as a male teacher looking after pre-pubecent female children.

Context is key. If they were sexualised images of underaged children, then yes, his work was inappropriate and "sick".

And the comics are meant to be canon to the Japanese G1 cartoon continuity, no matter how puerile you think they are.

 

Krillin pulled down Bulma's top in one scene to show Master Roshi. In another scene Bulma flashed her panties to Master Roshi, only to realise that Goku had removed her panties while she was sleeping the night before.

Which all sounds weird when you're mainly familiar with Dragon Ball Z...

 

They are canon, in their own continuity. However, for me, they simply don't exist.
