Completely not interested. So glad FT or GP doesn't do this.

DX9 is releasing some nice looking dinobot moulds with interesting, different transformation. But sadly they're going with cartoon colours and it just looks so bland. Doesn't mean that cartoon colours Always look bland -- I quite like MP14+ Alert, although he really needs some additional details -- but yellow and off-white and grey...that's boring. Much happier with chrome silver and gold.

That said, I like what Gigapower is doing with their metallics. I like the FT designs better (and prefer FT's scale), but I love looking at the metallic GP figures. If not chrome, then metallic paints are the way to do Dinobots for me.

Even as a kid watching the show, I never really thought the dinobots had yellow heads. I always thought they were a metallic gold or chrome. So, for me, I'm happy with the chrome offerings we currently have.

So does that mean you'd want the parts a lot of people interpret as chrome (like sludge's upper body in alt mode in OP pic) to be white rather than a silverish chrome?

That's not Stomp, His name is Sludge.

No matter how many people in the 3P forum would imagine otherwise FT do NOT own the Dinobots.

I would love toon-accurate Dinobots. I have zero nostalgia for the toys and would prefer something that more accurately reflects the characters in my mind. DX9's Legends offerings really hit the mark despite being a dfferent scale IMO. Gigapower's Dinobots are physically less toon accurate but the metallic paintwork is a little more fitting for the cartoon.

I wouldn't get them, but I do like better articulation in bot mode and FT could redo them.

IMO if anyone ends up making this kind of thing they should just make the chrome/transparent parts removeable (preferably via tabs etc but screws would be acceptable) and put matte yellow versions in the box. Or sold separately/left open for third party mod kits. Personally I'd like plain chrome panels too for eg, Grimlock's neck. Maybe I'm the only one but even as a kid I wasn't a big fan of the exposed circuitry under chrome look, but chrome is a bit sexier than plain yellow plastic.

Apart from those areas they're not far off cartoon accuracy. You could maybe tone down the panel lines/greebling a bit.

Not interested in the super animation accurate look.

Funny, I always thought something completely different to that. For me, the Dinobot's were manufactured on Earth, using "crude local materials". I never thought the grey was a gleaming, shiny metallic chrome, I always thought of it as heavy unpolished metal or something. The Cybertronians were made of these fancy, shiny high-tech materials, while the dinos were like big slabs of battleship armour?
That's why they were so much tougher for me - it's like the difference between a Prius and a Studebaker. One is basically made of crumple-zones while the other is like a tank. (I know that's not actually how it works, crumple-zones actually make a car far less prone to catastrophic damage, but as a kid, that was the impression I had - Grandpa's big old tank of a car was way more solid and hefty than Dad's flimsy modern thing)
Not sure if I ever gave thought to the yellow. Don't think I envisaged it as gold, maybe just yellow paint? Same as the red.
I love my FT Dino's and I don't think I'd sell them if something "toon-like" came along as I don't think it would fit in well with the rest of my collection. But if someone announced amazing cell shaded figures like the customs I posted earlier, I'd probably have to buy them as special display pieces.

Months ago, I started to photoshop a pic of Stomp to mimic the more cartoon-centric style direction that the more current official MPs are following. I took out the chrome finish, and all of the details that were not featured in the toon. Just to see what it might look like.

I should probably finish that someday. Keep forgetting.

Needless to say, I was not a fan of the results even midway through completion. Not to say that the slavish cartoon mp approach doesn't have it's strengths . I still like them, and respect the idea behind it all. But the bigger the figure becomes, as Stomp is, the bland plain-ness is only magnified.

It kills the illusion that I had as a child of these being cool badass robots. And instead, reminds me of how cheesy and cringe-worthy the old tv show often was. Young me, staring at g1 box art and oogling over all of the surface details on the toys for hours... that's the nostalgia that I want to be reliving.

On the plus side, the simplified details have a nice clean look.

I'd be interested in a toon coloured set, my painted MP-08 on pic right was an attempt to get closer to that look.

What I would like more however is for someone to release a MP style Grimlock in the unreleased G2 Tiger Stripes deco!

Why stop at taking away the chrome?
I'd like my Dinobots even more toon accurate by making them 2D.

Give the 3P alt modes pupils! How about a sticker sheet that gives them that goofy look and I'll be a happy camper

Nah I like my mps having chrome accents. Dinobots are no exception. Same reason I don't use the toon chest on my inferno. I like toon accuracy, but chrome just gives a nice homage to the toys

Why bother? Sooner or later, Takara will get around to releasing gray/white, sparsely detailed, cheap feeling Dinobots in due time, no worries! :D

As far as I'm concerned, FT's nailed these guys to wall , closed up shop , and moved on . Other company's , including Takara can make and do what they want , hell , they could even make them in every color under the rainbow for all I care. It's all a pass to me . I got my 5 , blew a shit load of money for them and I'm done , & moving on .
