I always viewed him as primarily a blaster user as well but with enough skill to use melee weapons for close combat. The axe either way has clearly left an enduring impact despite it's breif appearance, seeing as DOTM Optimus had one and Animated Optimus had it as his sprimary weapon and now RID Optimus's warrior mold comes with one.

I get that it did, and I'm fine that it did, just logically it appeared so little it shouldn't.

I'm glad it's being made by TF Dream Factory, but those guys need to actually start releasing figures first instead of increasing their roster. Like, they're still working on leader class Bonecrusher, Shockwave, Blackout, ROTF and DOTM Megatron, Starscream (in the future), etc.

Regardless, it looks good and I'm excited to get it...whenever that ends up being.

I think dream factory has been working especially hard on this cause we've seen an actual prototype, so I think it should be pretty far along, as they probably intend to release it before, or a little after the movie's official release so as to get some hype. Another indication is that we've gotten zero updates on the other guys in a while, so I'm assuming that dream factory has been working on this the whole time

The figure looks great. I have never bought a 3P Transformer before, but I might just pop my 3P cherry with him. I don't understand why more 3P companies don't attempt movie characters.

Was RoTF Optimus that complex? I blame the instructions more than the actual complexity of the toy itself.

Personally, I'm really disappointed with the simplification of Transformers. While I do definitely prefer them complex, I'm more annoyed by their inaccuracy to the movie designs as I believe accuracy should be first priority when designing an action figure. That is the main reason why I love RoTF Prime so much and hate all of the newer figures that just don't seem to give a crap anymore. I wouldn't mind simple transformation schemes, if only the toys actually replicated what was on-screen (which might necessitate a redesign of the movie models, but that's not going to happen either).

THIS. For the love of God, Movie Masterpieces with all-new, super complex molds. I'd pay big bucks for those. There are adult fans of other Transformers properties, you know?

Finally, SOMEONE WHO AGREES! Every time I bring it up people say that G1 is the only one worth worrying about and everything should adhere to its groundwork, yet there are so many good characters in other series that would make fantastic toys.

Not just Movieverse either. Can you imagine IDW Masterpieces? What about some of the RID (2001) cars? Yes I'm aware that 3P exists to fill those voids but Takara usually does it better.

For a movieverse "masterpiece" figure, I highly recommend checking out the oversized "KO" Evasion Optimus Prime from WeiJiang. It is amazing in person; the paint, the details, the weapons, the wonderful Evasion Prime transformation... he is my figure of the year 2016 by a mile.

His quality is as far from a "KO" as can be too, it's terrific plastic.

Plus he only cost like $80 usd. Unreal.

Hm... Even though I know how well-loved the Evasion Optimus Figure is, I never really liked him. As mentioned in my previous post, one of the major factors in which I judge the quality of a Transformers figure by is their accuracy, in addition to the complexity of the engineering. I can't stand faux parts and cheating and that is why RotF Prime hits all of my sweet spots. The windshields become the chest plates, the hood of the truck becomes the arms, etc... There is way too much cheating and faux parts on that Evasion Mode Optimus mold for me to fall in love with it.

What I would absolutely absolutely LOVE to happen is for a 3P company to make a KO RotF Leader Prime and improve and refine the mold even further. Remove the battery compartment to enable the back to collapse into the chest, remove the flip out swords to enable the arm armor to collapse flush against his arms, enable the wheels to become more flush against his leg, remove the step/box thing from the side of his leg, etc...

With all the re-releases Rotf Prime is getting, Hasbro/Takara are obviously aware of how popular that mold is. You'd think they'd actually improve the mold instead of just giving him a new coat of paint and extra weapons with each release...

Are there? The only thing I can think of is the faux chest windows. In the movie, during his transformation, his windows inexplicably shrink in front of our eyes. There's really not much the toy could do to remedy that besides using a fake chest. Other than that and the shoddy paint, the voyager evasion Optimus is a fantastic figure. He has no backpack kibble at all and proportion-wise, he's probably the most accurate movie Optimus we've ever gotten.

The few problems he did have, such as wrong wheel placement in bot mode, lack of paint, undersized shoulders, and open back in truck mode have all been fixed in the Wei Jiang KO.

Don't get me wrong, I love the RotF leader Optimus, but if I had to choose between the two I'd pick the KO a thousand times over.

Of course, that's just my opinion and there's nothing wrong with disagreement. I'm just saying that this guy is definitely worth the 80 bucks.

(On a different note, KO tends to mean a company that takes an already existing Hasbro/Takara mold and modifies it, whereas 3rd party means a company that creates completely new molds, right?)

General use is that a KO is a duplication of an existing HasTak or 3p figure, while a "3p figure" is an original figure/mold, usually of a HasTak character. There are some exceptions, such as FP doing some original characters - still called "3p figures".

A simply oversized KO is just a KO (OSKO) but some figures blur the line between KO and 3p figure, such as the discussed OSKO Evasion Prime which did more than just upsize the Evasion Prime mold.

The figure(s?) in this thread is similar: a "knock off" of the TFP voyager figure, but then with a lot of changes it looks like and a lot of new parts. I don't think we have a good name or term for these yet, but since CW has made the term "remold" popular, maybe we call them something like "Remold OSKO". ROSKO? Sounds like George Costanza's PIN code.

Well with all this discussion going on, at least the M01 Commander's good enough even if this toy doesn't turn at well.
