So this afternoon I was taking my two sons back to my ex after having them for a week. They both like Transformers (to varying degrees). My younger son (8) just pretty much loves Optimus. My older son (11) loves everything. So he hasn't read any of the comics though I've shown him some. He has seen at least some of most of the american series and watches a lot of YouTube related Transformers videos. Anyway, a few months ago he became very interested in Sixshot and he's actually how I found out there was a new leader class figure of him coming. Well I've told him a bit about IDW comics. How much I enjoy them, MTMTE, Lost Light, The Wreckers stories, Autobot Megatron. When he asked about Sixshot yesterday I was explaining to him about the IDW concepts of the point one percenters and Phase Sixers and I'd told him previously about the Decepticon Justice Devision. So today on the two hour drive back we had a loooonng discussion about Sixshot and he asked if Sixshot and Overlord ever met. I said I'm sure they did, but the only time I recall them kind of meeting was in the holographic teleconference meeting in "Last Stand of The Wreckers".

Then of course he asked the inevitable big question... who would win in a fight?

I told him they are both really powerful, but Overlord has gotten more character development. I'd go with Overlord. He said he thought Sixshot would win. He asked me more about his appearances in the comics. I said he hasn't really been seen in a few years and I haven't read those issues in a while. He was brought to earth to destroy the Autobots. My younger son asked if he fought Optimus. I said he did, and as I recall Optimus teleported away or something. My younger son was very disappointed, "Optimus... ran?" I was like "I think so I'm not sure exactly, but I think he had some kind of plan to stop Sixshot." Then I told them I think the last time we saw him Sixshot did have a confrontation with Metroplex and told them how Metroplex in the IDW comics is incredibly huge and powerful. My older boy asked if Sixshot won. I said, "No Metroplex stepped on him. But I think Sixshot did survive, which is saying something."

So anyway this conversation lasted for most of the drive with them with us debating back and forth. Yes I was arguing with my 11 year old over who would win in a fight. Overlord or Sixshot. Now I invite your opinions.

I wonder if I joined twitter and asked Nick Roche and James Roberts if they might settle this.

I seriously have no idea who to vote for, they've both survived quite a lot of extreme damage and their both Phase Sixers.

I think Sixshot would definitely have an advantage with all of those alt-modes he has, but still.. Overlord is Overlord.

My vote would be for Overlord. They are both ridiculously powerful, but Overlord seems a lot more intelligent, while Sixshot is more of a monster that Megatron just pointed in a direction and fired.

I think I agree with GoHan, BUT, Overlord's intelligence is also coupled with his egotism, arrogance, and that sadistic streak. Sixshot has far fewer psychological problems, and in a pinch, that might allow him to score the killshot. Overlord can probably outplan him, but he might also give Sixshot --- a SIX CHANGER --- the opening needed to turn the tide. Overlord has Sixshot on the ropes, stops to gloat, or make some comment, or do something torturous rather than outright win, and BAM. Sudden conversion into Wolfmode and rips an arm off.

I reallllllllly hope Barber brings Sixshot back into IDW soon. Not Roberts, though. Love Roberts, but I don't want any part of a jokey/silly Sixshot.

Wait. No. Scott needs to be the one to bring him in, because TAAO has been killing it. She did a fantastic Bruticus, and imagine her playing up something like Sixshot's established friendship with the Terrorcon fanboys?

Ironically, in the official figure tech specs, Sixshot was the one who looked more intelligent.

    Observe:

    Sixshot (1987):
    Strength: 10
    Intelligence: 9
    Speed: 4
    Endurance: 9
    Rank: 7
    Courage: 8
    Firepower: 9
    Skill: 8

Overlord (Tech specs from his G1 figure's English European release)
    Strength: 9
    Intelligence: 3
    Speed: 3
    Endurance: 10
    Rank: 10
    Courage: 9
    Firepower: 8
    Skill: 2

Gigatron (Botcon 2012 figure based heavily on IDW Overlord.)
    Strength: 10
    Intelligence: 6
    Speed: 4
    Endurance: 10
    Rank: 9
    Courage: 9
    Fireblast: 10
    Skill: 5

These don't provide anything concrete, but their still interesting to consider.

Judging solely from their appearance in IDW comics i think they are both intelligent. But while Sixshot seems more focused and rational, Overlord seems more resourcefull.

Well, when Sixshot was reinvented by Furman for the IDW continuity he was envisioned literally as a killing machine, a living weapon who only waited for someone to point him to the next direction and pull the trigger, a psychopath who only existed to cause destruction.

The disadvantage of this I believe was that Sixshot simply didn't have an objective on his own. He is a Point One Percenter who was born to fight but doesn't know anything about life beyond that. I think it would be pretty interesting to explore the psyche of a character who is so powerful that he thought that war was the only choice for him but not necessarily because he likes it or even wants it.

Overlord is pretty much the opposite. He's really passionate about what he does, he might be insane but he enjoys every single second of his own madness whenever he causes chaos everywhere and he tends to fixate on an objective to the point of obsession.

Who will win a battle between the two would be a matter of perspective. One could think that Overlord's more violent nature would give him the upper hand but on the other side, Sixshot's colder mind could give him the advantage at some points.

The only thing I can get from this is that I wish someone would expand on Sixshot's character. Preferably Roche or an inspired Roberts.

I believe Overlord is the more skilled and smarter fighter, but Sixshot is the more rawly powerful (him having a special powerplant is mentioned, he's bigger, and he has a mode that is a giant gun), tougher and with more offense. When both are so hard to hurt, and Sixshot still really skilled, I'd say that gives him the edge.

Overall, I'd have to give it to Overlord. Sixshot, based on what we've seen, might be the more effective killer, but Overlord knows how to fight to hurt and also is equally great at using psychological manipulation.

Probably Overlord just because he'd be the more likely of the two to fight dirty, and in all likelihood would be the one to initiate the fight in the first place as Sixshot has been depicted as a soldier who just follows orders where Overlord is an evil genius. It would likely be a tough fight for both, however.

It's interesting how the three Phase Sixers we've seen have such a spread on the loyalty meter. Sixshot is basically a loyal soldier, Black Shadow a traitor for money, and Overlord just wants to watch the world burn and prove himself Megatron's superior.

Have we seen anything to suggest that Overlord is (a) more powerful, or (b) more intelligent? I don't think so. We've seen him easily dispatching squadrons, but this is par for the course with a Phase Sixer. We've seen him trick Chromedome because of a bit of mnemosurgeon training, but he was also knocked back into his prison not shot to piece not much later.

My money's on Sixshot, because Overlord is whimsical, proud, overconfident and a little bit prancy. Sixshot is all business, and more versatile to boot. We've only seen him taken down by (1) an override command, and (2) a titan. In contrast, Overlord's been defeated by Ironfist and Verity, Fort Max and Chromedome, Chromedome again (albeit with powers), and the DJD. Granted, all of those were in unusual circumstances, but then again, Overlord got himself into those pickles. He either wasn't aware of his environment, or he underestimated his enemy, or he let himself get captured.

Overlord likes to drag things out and enjoy himself. He's his own worst enemy, and his vanity and ego have cost him.

Sixshot, on the other hand, is a very efficient killer that just focuses and gets the job done.

    I say Sixshot.

for me i'll vote for overlord. his cunning and strength along with his intelligence proves a force to be reckoned with. sixshot is also immmensely powerful and both being phase sixers, its a tight call.

Part of his schtick was figuring out opponent's weaknesses, one thing Megatron put a mental block on using against him, so that's the brains part.

Power, though? Sixshot shot down an autobot ship, that's impressive past
    any damage Overlord has done.

Sixshot isn't bigger. He's shown to be as tall as Megatron. Overlord is about a head taller or so than Megatron.
