Guess I'll just skip to the "What We Got Section" since I don't give two shits about the movie.

Was the whole rant about the "Keep Calm" thing just for the show? Or did you really not know the story behind it? It didn't originate as a meme. It was some early WWII propaganda from England that was supposed to prevent panic about what was going on in Germany and Poland. But they got sucked into the war before it could be fully implemented. The full quote was "Keep calm and carry on". Considering at least part of the movie takes place during that time, it's not unusual for that be on Barricade.

Pretty sure you jokingly requested someone do timestamps. Feel free to use it! They're very true to the wandering format.

Yeah... I need to go back and watch Transformers again, I remember liking the first movie a lot, I was fine with the different designs, and the ending with the cube was a bit weird but whatever, it was fun.
I was super excited for ROTF, but remember how dissappointed I was when I did end up seeing it, I was mad that I spent the money for IMAX tickets and couldn't understand what I was seeing during fight scenes as well as struggling to follow the plot.
I think I saw DOTM on a plane, but don't remember much of it.
Still haven't seen AOE but did catch some clips on youtube, the Romeo and Juiet thing is so freaking weird and unnessecary, and wrong? They are in Texas right, and I think they got the laws wrong. She's 17 and he's 20 and I think that's fine legally if a bit odd, I struggle to understand the thinking of putting that scene in there.

And, this may just be me being stupid, but why not make the daughter 19 or 20? The actress wasn't 17 when the film came out, she was 19. Why take an adult, make them play a child, have that child date an adult on screen, then have a dialogue about it when it had nothing to do with the plot? I just... don't understand. Is Michael Bay married? Was he trying to use the movie to explain to some dad why it was ok for him to date their daughter? What happened when they wrote this?

Anyway, not going to see the new one, but hopefully the toys are cool, I liked Hound (especially that Weijang version) and Scorn from the last one.

The highlighted part is what I'd like to address. As fans, we see the robot stuff as "the plot". But it's not. It's the same as The Walking Dead not being about the zombies. It's about the human interactions, which happen to take place during the zombie apocalypse. These stories are about the humans. The human plot is this: Single dad doesn't want his daughter to date. He finds out that she has a secret boyfriend. Tension builds between them since he does not approve. The robot stuff is the setting for them to work together and eventually bond. Now he no longer hates the boyfriend, and asks him to take care of his daughter as he goes off planning to die to save the world.

Now, with THAT being the plot, the age thing is absolutely relevant. If she were over 18, Dad wouldn't have a say. She has to still be a minor for the dynamic of dad-not-wanting-her-to-date to play out. As much as everyone hated that scene in the fandom, it was actually quite pivotal for the plot as it provides the tension between the two men that needs to be overcome.

I guess I don't understand, I think the dad not liking the boyfriend plot could happen with an adult daughter, I'm pretty sure a lot of movies are based on that concept. Why make an adult pretend to be a minor to give him an excuse, why not just be like, "I don't like this idiot" and then he does whatever thing he does in the movie to earn the fathers respect? That's way less creepy. Maybe I shouldn't be discussing it without actually watching the whole film though...

Yes, I know the origins nut that's not why the movie is using it. They are using the meme.

Can we definitively say they are using the meme? At this point, it could be either. Since there is part of the movie taking place in WWII, it could be a play in the original use of the phrase. I guess we'll have to wait until the movie to know for sure.

Its probably worth noting that Marvel Legends Punisher figure is using the Captain America/Wonderman body not Deadpools. So the range of motion differences like in the shoulder he's seeing are pretty much standard on that body. That body doesn't have "trigger finger" hands yet so I'm guessing they just couldn't cost out making new ones with all those extra accessories he has. Plus, I'd take more guns or an extra head over a small hand issue thats super easy to fix. Just take a knife and cut that trigger finger free and he's golden. Probably one of my top ML figures of the year.

considering the hamfisted nature of these movies jumping on an over played meme seems more inline with occam's razor then a subtle reference to something that's likely part of a voice over montage that's establishing the movie's macguffin.
