The amount of bitching, whining, and dissection of every millimeter of these pics is just ridiculous. We're finally getting an amazing MP Megs and yet it never ends lol.

Well, you can't blame folks because everyone is entitled to their opinions and everyone's expectations are different. :)

Making something like that would definitely make Megs look like he's wearing a diaper. Even if you could 3D print it, you'd have to have a crazy small layer thickness to have it not look like crap, unless you're willing to do tons of finishing work. I think it's just not worth worrying about; *so* many people find "flaws" with figures that, outside of a small percentage, they just completely forget about upon release. I remember a good number of people talking about the rear sides of the Datsun mold's legs, and now it's one of the most widely loved Masterpiece molds.

Yeah, i bet in hand under normal light the hip panel lines are not as noticeable. What I really like about this guy (that I just noticed) is that it looks like they used clear plastic for his bits on his abs instead of paint.

My crappy attempt at a toy decco. (Credit to @Cheebs for the metal legs, he did that with the old prototype images of this figure. I just poorly comped them into this lol.)

My preference revolves around which figure looks most like Megatron, of which both do. The toon is definitively represented by MP36, IMO the G1 toy is nicely represented by Apollyon, even a lot of the transformation. So, to me Apollyon doesn't look off at all. Now obviously looking at the toon which is what this guy goes for, no, Apollyon cannot compete much, but he's hardly MP5. And still looks better than the MT, and way better than the DX9...except the head, that is where 539 Designs fell completely short, I mean Butt lip..., If I could have the DX9 head on Apollyon, I'd have a perfect G1 toy update with a toon based head.

That said, I prefer MP36 because that is exactly what cartoon Megatron looks like.

I call it chasing 'screen accurate' instead of bringing the idealized character to life (as it might be if there were not animation limitations, etc).

IMO the only thing great about the TT figure so far is the leg style.. and the head. The despo and mightron figures are each goofy in their own ways... from either too blocky to horrible legs. The Alt mode of the TT figure looks like a complete panel MESS. If we are going to dismiss alt mode entirely, why haven't we just advocated for a pose-able figure instead?

I will wait for more photos of the TT figure to really decide... the arms and shoulders are concerning to me.

Both Despo and Might look like oversized CHUGs to me, Apollyon looks pre toon based design Masterpiece. I would buy a Despotron if he were CHUG sized and priced, but he's neither. Everything DX9 does looks CHUG to me anyway. I love my Apollyon because he was MP Megatron, and had both toy and toon cues, but evoked the G1 toy a lot to me, but my display preferences lean toward toon versions...so, MP36 is absolutely perfect, but Appy is my second pick.

I suspect there are mistranformations done by the staff of Dengeki Magazine. In their magazine shot, the gun barrel placed far from his head and proximal to his shoulder; whereas, in Takara official images, the gun barrel seems to be very close to his head and that allows his arm/shoulder move more flexibly.

So will he actually be able to do a standing pose with his fusion cannon fully extended? Not like mp5 where the fusion cannon hits the gun barrel behind his arm and prevents it? Not to mention he'd topple over from the weight of it

Problem is, an "idealized" version of the character is pretty nondescript in concept. Screen accuracy is a measurable aspect.

I can't believe we're actually at a point where accuracy to the source material is being seen as a bad thing. The fandom of fifteen years ago would slap the fandom of today silly for that. :lol

I wonder when he's going to be release. I could see them pulling a soundwave and releaing mp37 first especially if its a carbot. I'm afraid he wont release till may for some reason,, I'm hoping for march but i get this feeling thats not going to happen.

This exactly. It's kind of odd to be comparing all available Megatron options to the toon when that wasn't necessarily the goal of each design. Despotron seems to be going for the beefy IDW look. Mightron is simply a stylized version of Megatron. Apollyon, I would argue, is going for that idealized combination of toon and toy that the MP line *used* to do extremely well. None of them were going for 100% toon accuracy. This MP explicitly states that it's going full on toon in both bot and alt mode. Obviously he's going to be the most toon accurate. The question is, which fits our idealized vision of not only the character, but our idealized vision of what the MP line has been\should be.

That's a great observation. The placement of the gun barrel was definitely one of my concerns. Good to see that it can be placed in the correct position.

It is a nondescript concept, but I think for the most part the majority of collectors would agree that they did a masterful job of giving us an 'idealized' version prior to the 100% toon accuracy craze. The MP line never was meant to be slavish toon...until now. The people that complained back then that they weren't accurate enough are the same ones, I'm sure, that are elated with the new direction. The rest of us though that loved the line as it was aren't as happy...so the roles have reversed is all.

Pretty sure it's just the angle. Looking at the back there doesn't really seem to be a way to move the barrel.

    Hope I'm wrong though!

The best is when is mp megatron being announced, when is mp megatron going to be announced? Oh mp megatron is announced, when is mp optimus 3.0 coming? Can't even enjoy something that's been long awaited. Talk about a spoiled fan base that has so many options in this day and age.

You might be right, especially since the translation says the barrel can be swung down to the waist. So it's like it can be moved a bit or slide left and right.
