They've already knocked it out of the park twice with a third one probable. No way this one will fail. But I wonder how it will differ?
Kind of a misnomer all the same, though, isn't it? Since live action is usually a term explicitly reserved for films involving humans in them in a major role for most of the film - like, for instance, nobody is gonna call WALL-E or LEGO Movie live action films even though they outright have cgi-free scenes of humans doing stuff. This does make me more optimistic about 'live action' Dumbo though, if 'live action' just means photo realism as opposed to actual live action. Maybe they'll even adapt this concept to the TF films someday.
There is no need for this movie. Yes The Lion King was great but the thing is that the movie is only 22 years old and there aren't any human characters in it, not that the story needed it but having a full CGI movie with real animals yet nothing to really work off of like a human character just seems like a weird awkward fit. The Jungle Book is a public domain type of story and have had previous adaptations, plus Disney's previous movie is over 50 years old. It does make some sense to remake it for modern times in a way. also casting for this movie is probably not going to be much better than the near perfect voice cast we had in the original Lion King. I won't be surprised if Idris Elba is either Mufasa or Scar. I hope he isn't in it. He's Shere Khan and he doesn't need to be another big bad cat. Favreau isn't a bad choice to direct but it's a bit too much of a pigeon-hold since he just did Jungle Book. I wish Disney would stop remaking all of their classics into live-action. There isn't a real need for it IMO. I haven't scene The Jungle Book movie yet but I might at some point. I'll pass on this new Lion King. The original still holds up for the time being.
Well Madge Sinclair passed away a few years after the movie. and honestly Robert Guillame (Rafiki) isn't looking that great since he's gotten on in years. This is a unique scenario though. Most of the original cast is still around so they could plausibly reprise their roles, whereas obviously Jungle Book needed new cast members. But at the same time, since it's a remake they'll probably lean more towards an all new cast with slightly more recent A listers. That said, the original had a perfect cast, so they've got their work cut out for them. You really can't beat James Earl Jones as Mufasa, but I'm eager to see who they'll cook up for the cast, especially Scar. And honestly you could probably easily get back Whoopi Goldberg, Cheech Marin, and Nathan Lane and Ernie Sabella. Cheech and Ernie in particular. If they don't bring back Jim Cummings as Ed, though...
Are they gonna keep Be Prepared? I haven't seen the live action Jungle Book, so I don't know how much was changed.
My guess is the musical numbers will be either left out or just downplayed like in The Jungle Book. Hopefully we still get Nazi marching hyenas, though.
i hope they do the same thing they did with the jungle book with this movie, replace all the wonderful voice actors, with physical actors, for name value alone, and replace all the wonderful hand drawn animation, with terrible cgi effects. on top of that, i am hoping that they replace the good characters, with terrible ones. just like they did with the jungle book. I guess i must be alone in thinking, the jungle book sucked. I liked jungle book 2 more than it. Hell, I liked Legend of Tarzan more than it.
I still need to see the new Jungle Book, but I'm sure I'll love it. The Lion King is my all-time favorite animated Disney movie. I'll be there day one to watch this since it's the first movie I ever watched. However, I don't see the point of this. It's not live action since it will all be CGI and motion capture. If it's like The Jungle Book, it will look incredible though. I would have preferred them to remake a movie that underperformed, but I will still watch it. They need to keep James Earl Jones as Mufasa and Jeremy Irons as Scar though. I don't know how you replace them.
You should see the original, I didn't see it till I was in my early teens. It's widely considered to be Disney's Magnum Opus.
One thing I'm thinking about now is to have Zira in the movie so in the inevitable sequel she doesn't come from out of nowhere.
If this movie is 100% CGI, they might as well just use the original cartoon's audio track for the new cartoon.
This. Though I wonder if there'll be any acknowledgement of how much The Lion King was based on Japan's Kimba The White Lion (that and Hamlet, of course). Seems doubtful though.
My first draft of the cast: Christopher Jackson as Adult Simba Caleb McLaughlin as Young Simba Beyoncé as Adult Nala Quvenshané Wallis as Young Nala James Earl Jones as Mufasa (irreplaceable) Chadwick Boseman as Scar Alfre Woodard as Sarabi Danai Gurira as Rafiki (female like on Broadway) Key & Peele as Timon & Pumbaa David Oleyowo as Zazu Renée Elise Goldsbury as Zira (because this time we’re actually showing where she comes from) Leslie Jones as Shenzi Leslie Odom, Jr. as Banzai Jim Cummings as Ed First draft of the cast. I think Odom is wasted as Banzai but he's all I can think of at the moment.
O.M.G. This news shocks me, in both a good and bad way. Firstly, it's the Liion King, one of the greatest Disney flicks of all time. On the other hand, it's a hell of a benchmark to get to, and there may be difficulty without human actors. Still, I hope Jones and Irons, and Lane and Sabella (Mufasa, Scar, Timon and Pumbaa) return for this. I found their voices to be iconic and maybe irreplaceable.
Can this even be considered "live action" if there is no live actors? Disney should just re-release the original to movie theaters....
Not to forget theres also the possibility they could film in real life locations then add the CGI Animals, this is what they did in the 2000 Dinosaur movie, in where they filmed the movie in real life locations then added the CGI dinosaurs and lemurs
James Earl Jones I was expecting to return but Black Panther as Scar?! SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY, FAVREAU!!!
