They better not mess Hot Rod up in this one, if he even appears.

I personally don't feel that they presented enough information in the movie for us to develop this kind of opinion. They obviously understood Optimus when he addressed them and followed him after he and Grimlock scuffled. And a single scuffle does not qualify as "breaking a wild horse." And let's talk about how they worked together in combat with the Autobots and each other. Hardly "marginally intelligent animals" when you take the entire piece into account. But hey, that's me. We shall see...

I don't know how that's obvious to you when they seem not to have the power of speech.

Yeah, because he dominated Grimlock and became their new Alpha. That's what you do with animals.

Optimus left to find his creator at the end of AoE. I'm guessing he finds Unicron and gets turned into bays version of nemesis prime. This will be a twist given that bay has already botched the Galvatron/Unicron story. Prime will become the main antagonists for the film and Bumblebee (giving his popularity) will be the main protagonist. Won't it be gut renching to have to watch Bee kill prime. This will also help build anticipation for the Bee solo movie to take place a year later. Then hopefully wrap up the story in a final movie a year after that with Unicron as the main antagonist and Primes biblical like return and THEN we will get a full on reboot after about a 3 year wait. *drops mic.

    EDIT- SEE NEXT POST

I had just as much information as you did, and there is nothing in the movie substantiating that they DIDN'T have the power of speech. Not speaking on screen doesn't establish that. Optimus DID however bother to speak to him/them, and a "wild pack of animals" isn't going to understand what he was saying so why bother would be my question? Further, the dinobots fought with the Autobots in a manner that would suggest more than "animal instinct" IMHO. But, who knows?

Regardless, my real point here is that there is not enough information given/shown on screen to develop theories like this for either side.

I'm not going to win an argument any more than the other side is on this. We don't really know anything about the Dinobots nor did the movie give us much to go on.

Just found this interesting post on Spinoff online. They were running down facts about the AOE dinobots and this was #8:

Transformers Fan Experience: 10 Things You May Not Know About the Dinobots | Spinoff Online | TV & Film News Daily

"8. In early reads of the Age of Extinction script, Hasbro found descriptions of Grimlock and company quite thin. But the one phrase that stuck out and drove the design process? “Barbaric knights.”"

Interesting in respect the the discussion we've been having...sounds like they pulled the information from the video on the page with the article.

    EDIT:

This is what Optimus says to the Dinobots in AOE:

"Legendary warriors, the powers that created us now want us all extinguished. We must join forces, or else forever be their slaves. So today you stand with us, or you stand against me..."

Is this something you say to a group of marginally intelligent animals? Refer to them as "legendary warriors" and ASK them to stand with you? I'd say that Optimus DID treat them with respect in that statement. But again, it's open to interpretation I guess.

    EDIT:

And I just watched the video in the link above. They specifically say that the early reads of the scripts indeed "called them out as Barbaric Knights" and that they specifically designed them with this look in mind. Why would they make the dinobots look like knights if they aren't intended to be knights?

Further, they go on after that describing their unique abilities and their different "disciplines for every different type of battle you could be in." These aren't statements you make about "stable animals" or "barely intelligent animals" I don't believe.

THUS, I am going to suggest that the AOE Dinobots ARE Knights at this point. :D

Why would Optimus ask them to join forces if they were already part of the same group?

Optimus is a knight, they are not.

And I guess you've never talked to dogs. No pets?

I think the operative phrase there is "early scripts". Those early scripts get revamped, ideas change (and not really for the better, most the time), and what transpires on screen is usually a far cry from what was on those early scripts. Heck, I remember that in early scripts, there were Transformers (I suspect the Dinobots and maybe Drift) who spoke Mandarin. Honestly, I'm glad they nixed that idea though I get why they wanted to go there.

If the Dinobots were meant to be Knights, I would think Optimus would have addressed them as such. "My fellow Knights" instead of "Legendary Warriors".

The "knights" are not the "autobots" as far as I know for one, therefore the request. Two, sure, people talk to their dogs. But Optimus is talking to another freaking Transformer, not a dog.

The information is there. Sorry if it doesn't match your theory. I give up discussing it with you at this point.

The dinobot robot modes look like medieval knight armor- it would be utterly stupid for them not to be part of that group and the video I linked of the Hasbro people discussing the dinobots clearly states "barbaric knights." It seems obvious that ONLY Prime knows who they are and his calling them legendary warriors as opposed to knights doesn't mean anything unless we try to read it that way because it certainly isn't clear that it means that..

I posted actually information that isn't completely assumption and that certainly tends to support the theory that the dinobots ARE knights. I'm not using how Optimus phrased something- the only real evidence offered up here has been supportive of what I've been suggesting.

But that's fine, I won't post again. I know I at least posted something in support of my theory/belief that wasn't "I don't think." :)

Um, at this point in time Optimus has been with the Autobots for thousands or millions of years. This isn't rocket science.

Regardless, I'm done. Believe what you want. The next movie will hopefully clear it up (despite the video I linked to being pretty clear IMHO).

Here's the thing though, what Hasbro said about any of the Transformers hasn't really translated into Bay's movies. Things can and often do change. I'm sure Hasbro called them barbaric knights, but Bay seemingly went his own direction with that. He didn't want them in the movie to begin with. One of the writers pushed hard for the Dinobots to even be in the movie.

I'm not saying that they are not Knights, just that I didn't perceive them being presented that way.

Everyone in entitled to their own interpretation, so no hard feelings :)

Oh, yeah, I totally forgot that no utterly stupid choices ever get made in the making of these movies. How careless of me.

Wow, I said I wouldn't post again, but LMAO- YOUR entire opinion here is based on what is portrayed in the movie and what you think it means. That's golden.

    Ok. I'm out again.

You know, the last few pages have been an interesting read. I guess Cybertronians are the only species I know where knights sit on and ride other knights into battle (as if the other was a horse) after bitch slapping the other only once in what was supposed to have been an epic battle (only to be a sad disappointment of a fight) and making a cheesy ass afterschool special speech. Meh. Whatever. At this point, I'd rather just wait and see.

What else should anyone's opinion be based on? Imagination? Wishful thinking?

Yeah, I based my opinion on what's actually in the movie.
