I almost pulled the trigger on this one just before learning that an MP version was in the works. Now I'm wondering if this might not be the better option.

It's no different than donating to any charity: you don't know how much is actually going to what you think it is. We simply have to take them at their word. But it is likely they are going to do as they say. If they don't and get caught, they will lose much of their customer base. Besides, they will still make money off the sales from the charitable tax donation write-off. Charities are great revenue streams for corporations. There's nothing wrong with that, of course, that's simply the way it is.

If they are donating 100%, I don't see how the timing is "convenient" though. People who wanted the TT version will still buy it.

I wasn't going to buy this, but I shelled out because I appreciate them helping out my AB neighbours.

I'm also in Ontario, Canada. What'd this guy cost when all was said and done?

I'm in. Helping out my fellow Canadians in Alberta is reason enough. The MP Not-Inferno is just a bonus.

It's funny. I was just thinking a 3rd party company should do something like this yesterday and that very night this pops up. I was thinking an Artfire would be cool, red and white for Canada, and easy to do, just need to make a targetmaster for him or partner with another 3rd party to provide it. But this is cool too. Though it would be even better if they added a little paint/stickers to make him look like a Fort McMurray fire truck. But oh well. Maybe Reprolabels will offer something.

Honestly, the Fort McMurray donations is real incentive. That's a hell of a thing for them to do, good for them!

Sadly I'm next to broke. :(

Hell I can buy 3 Hellfire for McMurray, if we get to see EVERY SINGLE donation sent to red cross with receipt posted on the internet.

Just donate directly to red Cross for those that are skeptical. Post your receipt donation in the thread if you want to hold yourself to the same standard as you are asking of maketoys. Donate if you want to, or not. it's a personal decision.

Honestly, I think it's a nice gesture and I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. That's an awful lot of bad karma they'd be accruing if it was a scam.

Not sure why there is any negativity when a company says they'd like to do something to benefit their fellow man.

Gah! I wish I had money to spend on this. I don't even know if I really like the toy, I just want to help.
Does anyone else think that having the photo of the toy standing in front of a burning forest is a not really a good idea for this charity though? I am not trying to be an ass, this legit makes me feel odd seeing that pic for this charity...just sayin

Yeah its a really nice gesture- but the Fort McMurray crisis isn't as horrifying as some people think, and the media may have you think. At least in comparison to other parts of the world where war, poverty and loss seems culturally endemic. You can watch some really harrowing footage, and yes, there was hundreds of millions of dollars in property damage. Upwards of of 80'000 people were displaced within a 72 hour period- but as of yet no reports of anyone dying as a direct result of the wildfires have been confirmed. That in itself is a miracle.

Many Canadians, and immigrants working in Fort McMurray are not cut off from friends and family. They have simply returned to their home provinces. The Red Cross has set up emergency services around the city, and they are well staffed, with food, water, shelter. Many local businesses offer free accommodations, meals and supplies. Friends and neighbors are coming together, hosting peoples in the homes, on the lawns, and volunteering their time. The show of support has been tremendous. I just finished a 10 day stretch, helping people find rooms and shelter. Fortunately we are in a developed country with amazing support services. I'm not trying to downplay the loss- but the sheer out pouring of help has been tremendous in lessening the impact of the disaster. If not for the hard work of the emergency responders, volunteers, and the general attitudes of all Canadians as the drama unfolded- it could have been a whole ____ of a flaming Hell worse. The patience, respect and empathy has been immeasurable.

Most of the people I've helped have been incredibly high spirited and thankful. I spoke with a lady who had to leave her family dog behind in the evacuation. She was able to monitor the dog via a web based pet cam- and yes the puppy is fine and her home is untouched. Pet evacuations have been carried out. I was handing out towels to people so they could wipe the ash of their faces- which was surreal at times, because thanks to the direction of the winds, we haven't seen a puff of smoke on the horizon. The last big fire outside the city brought lingering smoke that had people coughing for days.

There was an outbreak of gastrointestinal virus at one of the shelters which sent some people to the hospital to be monitored, and there has been a spike in petty crime-but things as a whole are looking good. The long term effects have yet to be fully realized, and the rebuilding will take time.

The toys are produced, and between MMC and TT's competing products, they might have had trouble selling everything in a timely manner. They could have slashed prices, given them away as prizes, sent them to the poor, or destroyed the stock to save on storage. They decided to help Alberta, because, hey, Fire Truck. It lets them get rid of inventory, and in fiscal terms is roughly equivalent to selling them at 70% off.

There is nothing weird or sinister about what they're doing, it's a PR and business move, and one I very much appreciate.

This would have been a great opportunity to make a sticker sheet for Phoenix King for the people who donate.

Does anybody know when Maketoys Store normally ships out? I ordered my charity-edition Hellfire almost two weeks ago but haven't gotten any updates.
