i think most people are upset with Optimus Maximus and Sky Reign existing because they feel that the g1 combiners that existed in g1 should take priority. such as Computron or Liokaiser.

myself, i'm kinda irked that we got a second "new" autobot combiner made of mostly the same molds, rather than a new Decepticon combiner (or a us release of Grand Galvatron)

I can really see Creepout being a character that would spend a lot of time palling around with Exhaust. Mostly behind middle schools.

In response to Vangelus's response to my listener question, the toy whose engineering always fascinated me from catalog images was the OG Ironhide/Ratchet mold. I never saw a picture of them that wasn't really tiny and I didn't know it was a small dude on a separate sled - I just assumed they were both some kind of weird tank-centaur thing.

Wanting that Kraken led to me cold buying Mer-man before the show started.

Another catalog want was the Micronauts Hornetroid.

The first catalogue I got as a kid was the Milton Bradley comic-catalogue.
It totaly confused me at the time because it was nothing like the G1 cartoon. Jetfire the leader of the Autobots? Where are Optimus, Ironhide and Starscream? I wanted Soundwave, got him but never came across any of the cassettes until I visited the US. We did get the classic Euro G1 re-issues and got flooded with IGA G1's (wish I kept those in the box) in the late 80's/early 90's, but got too old to be interested anymore.
In the early 00's I bought an 'Unofficial TF Guide' which had the same effect and it all started again in adult measures.
Looking around I now do know why I don't have that very nice one from the latest BMW catalogue!

P.s. Seth, if they ever would do another Inspector Gadget movie, you should do the Dr.Claw voice! No bs!

I got the new Kylo by chance when I ordered him from Amazon, his robe sits fine, certainly doesn't drag the ground the way the one in your review did. I wonder if there's like a transition phase where some of the figures got some of the new changes in the factory but not all of them. Is there any precedent for that?

I was going to look for a flametrooper, but looking for Black Series got real unfun real quick in my area, and I realized that if the other "Knights of Ren" have any presence in future films their designs will probably warrant a toy buy first.

Regarding this discussion of adults making up 30% of collectors, I get the feeling that it doesn't mean what we think it means. Here's what I can't get over: How does Hasbro know how old I am?

After all, it's not like I get asked at the checkout counter whether I'm buying for myself or my kids, and the store passes that info to Hasbro. I suppose there's those fan surveys that come out from time to time, but those would be biased toward adults simply because the word-of-mouth on them goes through fan sites like this one.

My theory is that "kid" and "adult" were being applied to the purchased toys themselves, not the collectors. That is, all Movie, RiD, and RB purchases go in the "kid" column while MP, Platinum, and Generations are marked as "adult" purchases.

With this in mind, I think the takeaway is not that kids are abandoning Transformers (at least not more so than physical toys in general), but that kids leaned more toward Combiner Wars (which we know to have been pretty successful). After all:
    • CW toys aren't discouragingly more complex compared to RiD
    • CW has an excellent linewide gimmick that encourages you to get more
    • CW toys have actually been cheaper in come cases (as Vangelus has lamented)

Anyway, I might just be wearing my tinfoil hat too close to the microwave again, but I was wondering what anyone else thought.
