    I know :D

I was just watching his video of it and was shocked at how floppy his Kronos was. Let normal service resume :)

Yes the price seems huge for what it is and it coming out of nowhere(unknown company). Kudos to you Odeean and Knotted because this toy was largely panned from the beginning and clearly as you both go to lengths to point out the toy is not without it's own credits(not without it's complete blunders either, no instructions is a killer).

You guys should be on Mecha Forms Christmas list. Interesting/entertaining one this has been.

I guess I have no idea what you're talking about then. Your post seemed to imply Skyfire has never been attempted by a 3P before Sky Guardian.

That aside, just because Kronos requires the backpack to be removed and placed back on doesn't mean it's not a full transformation.

Maybe... but them there is the extra back/side plate and the intakes that need partsforming as well. Without the parts forming kronos is hardly anything. The toy that most closely matches what kronos does is that 2007 ultimate bumblebee - held together with only the most tenuous links.

Anyway, i think I'm going to slightly mod this so the hand can close in jet mode. It will just take a tiny bit of filing on the plate underneath. I have also noticed that the holes under the knee guards are able to take a tamashi stand. If i use 2 i can pose this in jet mode but it is a bit unstable. What i really need is an articulated stand that is heavy duty and has a 5mm post on the end. It could peg into the bottom where the forearm is.

I've also been putting other weapons on all the pegs, it's pretty fun. I want another one because i would love to put a little paint into some of the details. If it was $120 i would probably buy another. Is this a BBTS exclusive then?

No, that was not what i was trying to say.

I mean it should be rather easy to follow:

Skyfire cartoon /comic book model, featuring strict visual key design elements for both modes and a cartoon magic enabled / ambiguous transformation layout - no toy engineered representation for decades.

Many other characters got a toy, such as Megatron; of which the basic G1 engineering still influenced even the recent Apollyon.

So, even if Mechaform would have had years to study Kronos - which isn't the case -
It's clear they set out very different goalposts than Daca Toys' intention for Kronos.

    Thus, we can say that Mechaform still had to pioneer the market to achieve these goal points of theirs, which none other have tried to do in this particular manner;
    - literal representation of G1 cartoon Skyfire in botmode
    - literal representation of G1 cartoon Skyfire in altmode
    - transformation between these modes without partsforming

And....not having a G1 or any other preceeding product to represent the character with these points on the market, that means it was an extra hurdle to overcome; to design its engineering and to put it to market.

I can only remember one other not-Skyfire wip - but that one never made it to market afaik.

    * found it, it was this one : http://http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/thirdparty-g1-jetfire-in-development/23534/

Partsforming sucks, but it still fully transforms.

Anyway, I'd hate for this to turn into a Kronos vs. Sky Guardian discussion so I'm not going to say any more about Kronos.

Anyway, my second Sky Guardian's still holding up fine after a few weeks of posing and transforming. I even found a space helmet for him from an old Planet of the Apes figure. His head already has that sort of "astronaut without a helmet" look so it works perfectly. :)

Im interested in these Shapeways thigh fillers for my Sky Guardian. Ive never dealt with shapeways before because I hate the thought of sanding and possibly painting. Is anybody making these out of white resin for sale ? Also can the figure transform with them installed ? This thread is so far back in the archives so feel free to PM me. Thanks in advance.

    I have 2.

My shapeways add ons to Sky Guardian : http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/radicons-customs/1056619-sky-high-beta-shapeways.html

    My review : http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/transformers-3rd-party-reviews/1053825-sky-guardian-review-knoted.html

The review dates prior to my shapeways add ons.

In short : I love Sky Guardian. It's basically a toon accurate 3P CHUG Skyfire without partsforming. Only real shortcomings : derpy ( but tolerable ) facesculpt and hollow thigh legs - easily and fixed for cheap, with my shapeways thigh fillers. The "issue" with the tight upper arm clip hinges is solved as well.... add in a little plastic lube and from there on they should clip and unclip easily but firm.

I got my first Sky Guardian from BBTS ; too expensive markup price. 2nd Sky Guardian I got via Backstop from the forums here for a good price.

Thanks for the info, review, etc.... Some food for thought there, but doesn't seem to fit and MP collection to well.

He doesn't fit MP collections. The styling is basically just CHUG & G1.
Also, any MP Skyfire should be bigger. This Sky Guardian is 10 inch from
head to toe ; clearly meant as an alternative to Generations Jetfire.

This one will look good next to the upcoming Titans Return deluxes who should be a bit bigger than CW deluxes.
He probably scales a bit better next to the CW Leader Starscream than CW Leader Jetfire too. ( and Sky Guardian has wrist swivels with hands that can hold any 5mm peg weapon really well ).

    ^ Thanks !

I still need to revise the balljoint adaptor a bit on shapeways though.

....and... when you lay Sky Guardian's silhouette ontop of the silhouette of a contemporary Yamato 1/60 VF-1 you will see the proportions are very similar.
He even channels the same kind of pelvis type with the legs connecting directly to the canopy. Also, they are about the same size, both around 25 cm.
