My wife who only reads mtmte issues once on release day, just read this preview and the first thing she said was "Rungs going to be left behind" Also funny that Rodimus only thinks about Rung, after Perceptor mentions " something going terribly wrong. Although thats probably the name association
Not sure that can work easily. He can't easily be a closed loop. At best he would have needed to exist up until he gets stuck back in time, then there would be 2 Rungs - the original joining the Lost Light and then going back and another living all that time over again until everyone catches up with him. The older Rung could die before then and never rejoin the crew after the time travel but he could also still be alive. The only way to be a closed loop I can think of is either (a) future Rung dies in the past in the story, but passes his memories to past Rung so that he play things out exactly the same way or (b) past Rung dies during the story and future Rung chooses to replace him and go through the motions (and Brainstorm's paradox protector keeps that from being a paradox)
This^^. And tommorrow can't get here fast enough, let alone March. #38 is the issue Roberts said everything has been leading to if I'm not mistaken. So as much of a draw #37 is for me, #38 I'm practically salivating for. I absolutely love the un-marred Cybertron (Milne went to town on art detail here) and Cyclonus' reaction to this was note-perfect.
No, you can do a closed loop without anyone dying. If future Rung goes back in time and becomes past Rung, whether or not Rung existed before the time loop is irrelevant. It just becomes a situation where information creep overwrites his memory of the events. I don't think this is gonna be the case, but I'm just saying it's entirely possible for a loop to not make sense if you're standing outside of it - Rung would only exist and only ever have existed within the loop as a result.
I have this sudden mental image of Rung being the IDW equivalent of Marvin the Paranoid Android, being constantly lost in time, forgotten about and generally mistreated by those around him. “The first million ten years were the worst, and the second ten million years, they were the worst too. The third ten million years I didn't enjoy at all. After that I went into a bit of a decline.”
So Rung could be the universe's oldest cybertronian? Wouldn't he continue to age regardless of how many times he went back in time in a loop? Over and over again. He could be over 20 million years old or be one of the first, no? We still don't know how he was initially created.
As much as I like the future Rung being the same as issue 22 Rung, the spoiler published in the comic section just kind of indicates that's not going to be the case.
Question: if Rung is going to be stuck in a loop, where does he come from in the first place? There's gotta be a beginning and an end for his existence.
As exiting as #38 sounds for concluding this arc. I'm excited for #39! The Return of DJD! And the powder keg under season 2 will explode.
Best example is the terminator franchise. John connor sends his own father back in time to concieve himself. Closed loop
I prefer not to think too hard about time travel logic in a story and just enjoy the epicness of time travel That movie was great. They should make a sequel and bring Joe back somehow
Yeahhhh.... that's not a closed loop in the same way. Kyle came from Kyle's mom. John comes from Kyle and Sarah. No one is replacing themselves (even if there is predestination). Where did Rung start?
Isn't Rung on the cover of issue #40 along with several other characters 0.o How can he be left in the past if he's there and, presumably, on the Lost Light.
^damn there goes that theory then, unless it's like Kup who was also sent back in time (to the beginning of the Dead Universe) and is now back with the regular cast. Like maybe Rung was left back in time and just kinda waited (without doing anything major like the historical constant he is) for four million or so years and made his way back to the Lost Light.
I put in the fake spoiler thread that Brainstorm started begging them to shoot him in the head, then his head did come off and was and ancient headmaster.
I speed just re-read the issues taking place on the second lost light. I couldv've missed it, but I don't think there is a Rung corpse to be found. I don't know how Roberts would write around the two Rungs thing, unless his useless alt mode somehow makes him immune to quantum factors, like duplicate selves, and time travel scenarios. If there were two Rung, "ours" could stay behind and the "new" one carry on in his place. Thoughts? Did I miss a corpse in my re-read?
