Some of those early Gobot line designs in that link easily could've featured g1 BB, Windcharger, Brawn/Outback, etc etc if we're talking simplicity. Just saying, Gobots never got the chance to really expand to the point of transformation that the Transformers did. But if they did, they had some really cool characters that would look good updated with more articulation.

Sad really that it's very unlikely this is the old figures reissued. I used to have loads back when I was a nipper and I have no idea what happened to them all. I still have all my childhood TF, but strangely none of my Gobots (or 'Robo-Machines' as I think they were called here). The last few years though I've been nabbing any I see at car boot sales.
Here's a Tux I picked up from a car boot sale last year for mere pennies. A little scuffed, but I loves him all the same:

Even though they are not loved as much as the G1 TF's, I would love to see more Gobot themed figures and possibly a movie (depending on the direction it went). I do imagine this is probably just a reboot of the old young kids toys but I can hope.

I have a fairly large original MR/Gobot collection and have been longing for updated versions of many of those figures. Anyone that just universally writes them off as inferior figures to TF's has really not given them much of a chance. Many are as good or better than most G1 figures. They also did a much better job at keeping a consistent robot scale than TF's.

I never watched the cartoon and I am guessing that most of the hate comes from it (just like much of the G1 love is for the cartoon representations and not the actual figures). So, I am not as interested in the movie as much as I am interested in the possible figures.

GoBots were a competing "transforming robot line" released by Tonka with molds from Bandai's Machine Robo series.
STA: GoBots / Machine Robo / Rock Lords and more!

Had a few as a kid, and compared to Transformers of similar size and price point (the minibots, combiner limbs, etc) GoBots were generally superior in almost all facets. But the mid-size and upper ranges were far less impressive than Transformers, not to mention Transformers' vastly superior fiction.

Line by Tonka from the 80's. The toys where from Bandais "Machine Robo" line mixed with a few originals. The cartoon was made by Hanna Barbera and is... strange.

Machine Robo also had a cartoon and the line as a whole had a revival in the early 2000's with "Machine Robo Rescue". Since Bandai owns the animation studio Sunrise and makes toys for most of Toeis properties like Kamen Rider, Super Sentai/Power Rangers and Pretty Cure, Machine Robo is today mostly discontinued as theredoesn't seem to be a place for it.

What place it had was as a budget line where a kid could get a complete diecast robot for a fraction of a DX Super Sentai/Power Rangers or a Chogokin. The standardized size also lent itself to things like placing robots into exo-suits and vehicles and the like.

This could get weird. After all, Gobots were (and essentially still are) an off shot of machine robo, which is a bandai property. And last i checked, bandai wasn't to happy with hasbro for just getting the name gobots applied to their toys. Also, hasbro and badndai are still major competitors. I don't think bandai will all of a sudden play nice.

So does anyone actually know what this is?

Cause the only post-Hasbro acquisition Go-Bots I know of are the pre-Rescue Bots preschooler toys.

Also, some of you guys need to stop knocking on Challenge of the Go-Bots. It might've been cool in the 80's when all you knew was what you saw on TV, but we're on the internet, there's no excuse for ignorance.

Transformers has always been the clear winner over Go Bots. Though gobots was great for Transformers in that it was compitition. After all this time, I think there are a good number of people who now have a soft spot for Gobots.

Sure the chances of this being what we'd like it to be a slim. But, if it does turn out to be a resurgence of the old Gobot property... it could be amazing for Transformers in the long run. I could definatly see the possibility of Hasbro Bandai and WB (if WB is even needed) working together to bring us back old school Gobots.

Transformers has become stale. Personally speaking TFs haven't been very interesting since Animated.... and even that was a massive recycle of G1 ideas. With a new brand they would be free to be more inventive and try out new ideas.

How strange would it be, to at this point be more into Gobots than Transformers? If they did an awesome show (2d traditional animation) and toyline I'd jump on board.

Chances are though this will turn out to be just another line/show aimed at really young children under the Transformers brand as has been done before.

If anything, its likely just Hasbro's replacement for Rescue Bots, as they used the name before on Rescue Bot's predecessor.

Back when I was a kid, we had the Go-Bots fans and the Transformers fans. I was a hard-core member of the latter and I'm not sure how to react to this apparent return of the Go-Bots.

Usually when a old 80s cartoon gets an update I tend to look forward to it, but with Go-Bots, I'm thinking "Why bother?". I guess old prejudices really do die hard.

Well, I actually ended up liking Rescue Bots (after I finally watched a few episodes). Maybe I may even finally learn to appreciate the Go-Bots.

But Transformers are still the best.

    GoBots (franchise) - Transformers Wiki

Hasbro was able to acquire the Bumblebee trademark for the first movie, so they could try to secure using the Go-Bots likeness... but they didn’t release G1 figures during any of the movies, so Idk why people think Hasbro would rerelease these molds 30 years later even if they did have the rights...

True that! Fully integrated, no need to add bazillion extra parts like G1 combiners. And a lot of Super Gobots had pretty complex transformation for the time compared to Transformers. Spay-C was particularly awesome.

i had the yellow sports car as a kid but that was it. I would be over the moon if Hasbro started releasing generations style Gobots. i loved both shows equally as a kid.

Crasher was a cool character, she would have made a good Decepticon.

Anyone remember the larger Leader 1 figure they made, I remember when I was a kid, someone I ran into had it, and I was in awe. It seemed cooler than a lot of the TF's as the time.

That is one thing I remember about the Go-bots is they made Leader 1 and Cykill in different size classes.
