He's absolutely a shell-former. The entire torso and arms are folded up into the cab.

    Finally opened my Galvatron today.

    1. I am super impressed with his alt mode. How the feet come together to from the fifth wheel is awesome. Nice paint apps on the cab as well.

    2. I actually like his bot mode as well. I do wish the grey plastic was a few shades darker, but I am actually looking forward to doing so custom work on this guy ( my first attempt on any figure ).

    3. The plastic has a weird feel to it. It feels nice and studry but at the same time it feels lightweight.

    4. Transformation is simple, but complex enough to be fun. Liking the accordion effect with the cab.

    5. Wish list would have been more paint on the hoses throughout the body, yellow eyes, some paint on the face. Love the purple they used throughout.

Out of five stars I'd definetly feel good about giving it 3.5 stars. Not a must have figure, but you don't feel like you wasted your money if you got him.

I just wanted to ditto this review. Maybe bump it up to 3.75 because I'm absolutely loving the Alt mode the custom Daimler Truck 'tis glorious

Only difference is I can't tell with the plastic feel. (point #3)

    Back pack-former + shell former.

He's more back pack though, he's not AS horrendous as Leader/FE/whatever AOE Prime.

I love this figure, there's something to it...

How is Galv's robot mode not completely engulfed by the alt mode? The entire upper body folds up and gets, well, engulfed by the cab. Shellformers can't shell-form in both modes. Rattrap also wears almost his entire alt mode on his back, just like Galvatron.

Galvatron's prbably the best modern day example of a shellformer. That doesn't mean he's bad, though. People think anything that can have a label put on it is automatically bad because of that label.

Recently I've been on the fence about Galvatron. I really want to get this figure, because it looks super awesome, but the paint apps on the Hasbro version just leave it super bland looking

The Takara one looks decent, but I don't think I'd want to pay that extra €10/15 just for a few extra little paint apps. At the same time, I wouldn't have the guts to paint the Hasbro one because I'd rather not paint something I'd have to import

    Argh!

Not that I have a problem with how he is now, but I feel like he really should have been a hardcore partsformer. Knowing what he's based on, you can't object to that. It would have been very easy to make him more accurate that way, too.

So it's only been about 40 years, but I finally got this guy. He's really tops. Solid in both modes, looks great in both modes. Transformation's really fun. They made a gimmick out of shell-forming with the spring-loaded backpack folding. The only knocks are the high knees, the kiible restricting backward arm movement, and the dull grey. Otherwise he's sweet. Probably the last AOE figure I need.

I rebought the figure just to have a Galvatron, and I'm still unimpressed. I don't care about the lack of paint, really. It's the knees and proportions that I don't like. The body is too short, coming to an oddly shaped V at the crotch. It shoild have at least another 1/2 inch or so in the mid-section to balance out the too-long legs.
I also hate the weapon. If it stored in alt mode it'd be more acceptible, but as it is it's just a spare piece to lose.
I can agree the shell-forming alt mode is pretty nice, but if I only cared about a good looking truck I'd buy a model of an Argosy.
Oh well. Maybe the next movie will make a better figure.

Thing is, when compared to the movie model, it's not hard to see where the high knees and tapered crotch came from. It's not so much high knees as really long ankles. The feet should sit just above the ankle joint to be best proportioned.

I was almost upset with the V crotch, but there's a lot of free movement and it's still easy as pie to move the hips. But I certainly don't want these hips anywhere else.

Good point about the ankles. Unfortunately, they're the best joints in the entire figure. That's too bad, but still, if only the knees were designed lower and the hips were less wonky, it'd be a lot better.
Incidentally, I loathe the new Tetris-forming of the movie, and I applaud Hasbro for the successful use of shell-forming.

I don't mind it as used in the story, and wouldn't be upset if they left it for very few TF characters here on out. But I would prefer they have Galvatron's transformation "stabilize" in the next installment and be like the regular transformations...

Yeah, I'm really hoping they don't make this a regular thing. It kind of defeats the purpose of "Transformers". Plus, the transformation sequences were my favorite parts of the first three movies.

I still love this figure! Out of everything that is wrong with him, his freakin alt mode makes up for it! His Semi truck mode is totally badass and the only thing missing is the missile rack from the movie.

I think in the next movie he'll regain his previous transformation method back but he'll also keep the way he transforms from AOE too as another means to travel like if he's in a tight spot or something.

I'm pretty sure it won't be a regular thing. In AoE it was solely for the transformium TFs and all of them were wiped out except Galvatron. But we'll see, though. Maybe they'll use the transformium some more. Personally, I'd like to see them bring back other deceased characters similar to how Galvatron was revived, but have all of their transformations "stabilize" back to normal...
