Just gonna throw this out there since I already did in a fanart thread where Drift was photoshopped with proper colors, but take I think TheSoundwave was close when he said they look like rotor blades...

Look at the center of them on his back, and how they're attached to something that looks like it should spin, very much like a helicopter rotor.

Then also remember teh gold KREON of Drift that had the helicopter rotor blades as an accessory...

Drift is a triple changer at some point. Those ARE helicopter blades, no doubt about it. Look how different they are compared to his sword, and how similar they are to actual helicopters. He's got to turn into a cybertronian helicopter or something, otherwise he'd mass shift to be a Bugatti later on.
