    Ebay:
Albertasaurus and Allosaurus have puny little studs compared to those of Carnotaurus... now that is a devilish looking theropod. But whatever the case, the "horns" are pointing backwards and may not be horns at all but just the shape of the head, giving it a more dragon like flow.

Anyways why would Bay not use the most famous Dinosaur of all time, and the only one that the public actually know the full proper scientific name of?

Though maybe it's best if Bay doesn't use the latest depictions of Dinosaurs and has a bit of leeway, imagine if he used this hideous modern rendition of a T-Rex (or should that stand for Turkey-Rex), Grimlock would probably off-himself in a flash.

That is NOT a realistic T. rex. That is a Jack Horner rex

If we get a Leader Class TRex, a Voyager Triceratops and a Deluxe Pteranodon, I think I'll pass on the others and keep the Transformers Animated cast.

Could it be possible that the assumed picture of Grimlock's robot mode be the Raptor or Spinosaurus instead?

I think I love you. Or, at least, my dinosaur-obsessed ten-year-old self does.

Except that it looks nothing like Psittaccosaur quills, and a lot like a stegosaur thagomizer. That's clearly what it's meant to evoke.

Why they felt the need to slap that on the ceratopsian dinobot, I have no idea.

Guys I know Grimmy is a T-rex I'm not actually suggesting he's anything other than a "version" of a T-rex just as JP Raptors bare little resemblance to V-Raptors (known at the time of filming) and are more like Utah Raptors.

I am just pointing out that when people drawn/skin Albertrosaurus and Allosaurus these days the look they do that with the dragon like skull is suggestive to me of the influence on Grimlock's design.

All I'm wondering is had someone seen some funny art or been watching Primeval New World and that had some influence on the design of Grimlock which is a little atypical in the way a Trex is often drawn around the head especially.

But T-rexs have a few sub-types and it's not impossible that there might be some gender variation like spiked skulls on males for example.

But I was just pondering on why they did it like that and pointing out those two particular Dinos with similar heads (as they are drawn these days).

I didn't mention Carnotaurus as he seemed more like he's horned than had draconic rear of skull protrusions where the protrusions/horns are over or just before the eye socket and the design of AOE Grimmy has them at the back of the skull above the neck.
However the spinal protrusions sometimes rendered on a Carnotaurus are also rather like Grimmy.

Though personally I consider the protrusion of the vertebrae to not be to likely to be any more noticeable than a crocodile - otherwise it's a visible weakness to a rival -I would guess it's more likely the spine would be mostly supported by muscles not just for protection but simple to support all the weight of the beast and their big tails.

Besides the short muzzle they have ( http://stores.homestead.com/hstrial-Dliebman2/catalog/papocarnotaurus1.jpg ) remind me to much of the abandoned dino-mutants from the never made JP4 Movie concept :

But yes I can see why some would be thinking of a Carnotaurus a bit when looking at Movie Grimmy.

I hope the Dinos have Robot modes in the Movie...(even if the toys have them anyway and the Movie does not.) I don't want them to be dumb beasts.

So, Slash is based off of a Utahraptor which is one of the largest Raptor species found to date. On average, Utahraptors were 23 to 25 feet long and averaged between 1,100 and 2,000 pounds. Dinobot Slash's spikes all over his body are supposed to be a mix of more or less spikes and robotic feathers. He has them on his head, back, legs and even arms.

I always thought the structures on Slash were feathers from the beginning. Anyways, described Utahraptor remains would have belonged to animals a little less in weight and length. Approximately 1,000 pounds and around 20-23 feet was probably more typical. Anyways, there are undescribed remains of the genus that suggest larger sized animals were present. Either way, Utahraptor was the largest dromaeosaurid known and very heavily built for its family. Whereas Grimlock is much bigger than Optimus or a real T-rex, I suspect Slash will be bigger than a Utahraptor. I hope these new Dinobots get some cool scenes in the new movie, and that their toys are awesome as well. That's actually one of the things I'm most excited for is these new Dinobots.

If Slash doesn't come with a guitar and top hat, I'll just have to take him out shopping.

Ok, while I realize that you mean the dinobot that may or may not be named slash, the first thing that popped into my head was a few kids sitting around a playground talking giddily about what Slash from Gn'R was going to bring them for Guitarmas, they're singing "Paradise City" and rockin' out and an older kid comes along and goes "You do realize Slash isn't real, right?" to which the younger kids all start crying and saying "no, he is real! my daddy saw him in concert in the 80s" etc etc.

    lol.

    G'morning, everyone.

It's merely a little whimsical humour, nothing to stress your little head over.

    See, this guy gets it.

    But then he's not American.
