As much as I like the art work and the designs it's the plot that really keeps me interested. They don't mind letting things get tragic or sad so it's fun to watch a series that doesn't mind going bold with story elements. Any story that can make you sad for days did some fine story telling.
I enjoyed Gundam Wing for the plot and the designs. Each Gundam had character, which the more military-focused series largely leave out. G-Gundam was watched from beginning to end - but the story was all over the place. The Final Arc more than made up for everything else, however. I've seen bits and pieces of the original series, the 8th MS Team, and Gundam Seed. I also own a copy of Char's Revenge and Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz from over ten years ago. Aside from Endless Waltz, which is a Gundam Wing OVA, none of the plots engaged me enough to stick with it. Cartoon Network's erratic scheduling didn't help either.
I would argue with you if I had actually made it up to that point in the story. In terms of the movies I thought he was fine, sitting down to watch the series proved painful because of him. Nope meant F91. Got a bit confused because when I watched it was in 15 minute bits back on old youtube.
The series is way better. The Zeta movies are a disjointed mess. And as for making it far enough, I think his mom was killed in episode 3 or so. His dad bit it soon after that (good riddance), and then it became kind of a contest between Jarred and Cammile to see who could kill more of the other's girlfriends.
With everyone spewing out what their favorite MS are, I may as well post: the friggin Turn X. For actual Gundams, I'll say the Astray Noir. Too bad it'll never be animated.
Unless it happened in the first 5 minutes I didn't see it. I could understand if he acted the way he did after his parents died, but he irritated me to no end from episode 1. He's basically the reason I just flat out stopped bothering to watch.
He's a teenage kid. And unlike in American cartoons, he's portrayed LIKE a teenage kid. He's not perfect, his anger at the world is completely overblown, and he's not able (in the beginning) to see beyond his own pain. He's irritating in the way all angst-ridden teenagers are. But to me, that's always been one of the strengths of the (Tomino-run UC portion of the) franchise: the main characters are flawed. Sometimes heavily. None of them are ever 100% in the right. Amuro is wishy-washy and lets the situation devolve through his inaction almost to the point it's unsalvageable. Char is heavily misguided. Camille can't see beyond himself. I guess Judou isn't horrible, although he starts off not caring about anything. And where to begin with Hathaway? Now, he was irritating. Seabook was Amuro v.2. I guess Uso was Tomino's least-flawed protagonist, which is ironic, since he had the most reason to be flawed. Point being, you don't have to like Camille to watch Z Gundam. Because he wasn't created to be very likable, at least in the beginning. In the first half of the series, the more interesting part is watching Char struggle with himself. Something that gets shortchanged in the movies. Once Camille meets Four, around episode 14, he starts to get more interesting. But that's about the point you have to start putting up with Katz.
I think if more people realised this, then there would be less comments about how 'whiny' some characters in anime are. It makes sense that they act like that, because it's how a teenager would act. Not sure why a lot of people don't realise that.
Also don't forget Camille's feminine name. With a name like that then it would be obvious for him to act the way he is to proof his manliness.
I think some people complain about it because somewhere deep down, they DO realize it, and maybe it hits too close to home.
Or people realize it and just can't stand it. Just saying. Finally said screw it and started watching ZZ. Probably missing quite a bit from the lore, but I just don't care anymore not bothering with Z and thanks to this thread I'm in the mood to watch some of the older series. Really wish they'd put the original series on Daisuki.
i've seen many gundams, but wing, 0083, and ms 8th team are my favorite. that and the gundam side story video game. that is always a blast. i really think gundam needs more female leads, gundam pilots, though. there really isn't enough female heroines in these.
