    This.

The subtext in the movie is that humans are essentially just a stepping stone needed to get the the xeno. That's why Fifield took on the characteristics of a Xeno when exposed to the goo. That doesn't come across as much in the scene they went with. In the scene that was in the movie it just looks like Fifield went crazy from hydrocephalus.

There is a WHOLE BUNCH of stuff going on with that poster. Look at the subtle differences between all the Xenos on it. Very cool.

I don't think it's quite supposed to be that humans are just a step toward making xenomorphs. Ridley Scott has been pretty clear that the Engineers originally wanted to spread life and civilization and had been cultivating humans toward that goal, but then changed their minds for some reason.

Rather, I think the idea is to make the whole alien (and human!) lifecycle a lot more fluid and amorphous. The entire basis of Alien's brand of "body horror" has always been violating boundaries between human and other, self and other. The humans stuck to the walls were originally supposed to turn into facehugger eggs. The original alien prop actually has a human skull inside the faceless black carapace. Those elements were cut from the final film, but the mythology has found other ways to transgress those boundaries--by having a xenomorph adopt its host's DNA, by having hacehuggers taint their host's DNA like a retrovirus, etc. Prometheus hints that the boundary may not exist at all.

That's an awesome poster! And is it me or does at the very the top and center of the poster resemble the top of a Queen's head? Might just be coincidental but it kinda looks like it to me.

No it's there. I see that too.

Well... Scott has also said there were opposing tribes (part of the reason the ships look different). One was the angels that wanted to spread life (through goo), the other were the fallen angels that used said life to create the ultimate demon (Also through goo). So I think both trains of thought are true.

    Me three :p

Fair enough. But it would be even more accurate to say that we're being used as a stepping stone to breeding xenomorphs. It's not the case that we were created specifically for that purpose, which is what I inferred.

YES!! Nailed it dude. Especially since this is the first Alien film to be released after Giger's death. Spectacular!

You can briefly see her in hologram form at the controls of the crashed ship. She seems to be looking at something behind her.
