Really promoting the movie now, see the trailers several times a day, especially tonight during Flash and Arrow.

Well, watching the trailer makes me think "this looks like Ancient Aliens: The Movie".

The Wachowski's are very similar to Shyamalan at this point in their careers. Granted, they at least make more entertaining movies than him, but their movies do suffer from similar problems and neither have had a true hit in years (excluding V For Vendetta because no one knows for sure how much they ghost-directed).

I wonder if Sailor Jupiter from Sailor Moon hates this movie.

Saw it today. It was ok. Visually it was great. Storywise, not so much. Didn't hate it, didn't love it. My love of Mila Kunis made me enjoy it though.

All this movie did though was really really make me wish for a Gargoyles movie.

I thought the same thing watching it in the theater the other night! I liked the movie, though.

An talking about the film in general. It felt as if the audience is just dumped into this a story, but not in a good way. Not in an immersive way. Like you picked up a book off of a shelf and started reading it a couple chapters in and finish it from there. You can piece together everything but it still felt like some thing was missing. Like you're missing enough to not even care that much about what's happening to the characters and what's going on. It also felt like a sequel for a movie that doesn't exist.

Yeah, I think my biggest problem was that they did a very poor job with the world building aspect. We really don't learn very much of how things work, and what we did see didn't really get me interested in seeing more of it.

I agree with that, they skimmed over the whole
    reincarnation
thing in a single conversation, which sounds like it should be really important. But I think the actual biggest problem was not making me care about the characters. I can ignore messy stories and world building if I care about what's happening. The 2 main characters were pretty bland and they had one of the most sudden and shallow romances I've seen in a long time.

I wasn't a big fan of Cloud Atlas, but I'm interested to see the extended cut. It was easily one of the most ambitious movies I have seen in the past few years. As far as their careers go, the Wachowski's should probably work on some smaller high concept stuff. I think Netflix can show some of their strengths if they do things right.

Similar to M. Night Shyamalan, I've wondered for a LONG time now how & why studios keep giving the Wachowskies money and keep letting them make movies. Apparently one hit movie in Hollywood buys you the freedom to make 4-6 consecutive follow-up flops without recourse.

A few sharp observations, but they really padded out that list to make it to the
    magic round number of 10.

I agree with their intro "once I let down my pretensions I found Jupiter Ascending to be a truly rollicking and preposterously entertaining space opera."

I caught Jupiter Rising last week, and I really liked it, it's a crazy fun movie, even if it is a bit of a mess. Worth seeing in a rollercoaster 3D thrillride kinda way.

It's a bit Star Wars Prequelly, stunning costumes and designs, some epic effects sequences, more than a few ridiculous moments. Heavy on expository dialogue, hard to follow at times. Channing Tatum was wooden and rubbish. The villains were all good fun. Would've made an interesting franchise.
